I suppose if we can't make the geography make sense, we can always assume there's more than one settlement named Dillame. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

quote:I think that if battle creations are going to be viable, they need much, much more durability than they currently have. A HP bonus on a par with kyshakks would be a good start. I like the idea that someone mentioned earlier of giving them debuffing attacks, too, but while it'd certainly make them more useful I'm not sure it'd really fit what their role is supposed to be. Traditionally, fire creations have been the versatile damage-dealers, magic creations have been debuffers (although some of them also have better damage output than fire creations), and battle creations... well, admittedly, battle creations haven't been much of anything so far. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Finished a Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) in Zoology last year; having decided that I'm better at writing about science than actually doing it, am now doing a graduate certificate in history and philosophy of science and aiming for a Masters in science communication. Hoping to end up writing for New Scientist or something like that. Congratulations on your degree. quote:I can think of a third option, although it changes the canister system almost as radically as #2: make all canisters interchangeable. Rather than picking a canister effect at random and being saddled with something useless like a level of Create Thahd, you'd always get Create Thahd from the first canister you picked up, Searer from the second canister, and so on and so forth. You have to keep using the early, less useful canisters because it's the only way to get to the good stuff. I suppose if we wanted, we could divide canisters into "creations", "magic" and "other", and give each a separate progression (and distinguish the three types with handy colour-coding). Of course, this would also mean that you couldn't play a low-canister game and still make Drakons at the end, since your first level of Create Drakon would presumably come at around your 20th creation canister. Being able to get all the really useful creations in a low-canister game has always felt like a bit of an exploit to me anyway, though; using canisters in moderation doesn't really seem consistent with everything the game tells us about them. Rotghroths can get double attacks, but it happens probably somewhat less than half the time and still does less total damage than a single Wingbolt attack. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

The easiest way to implement it would probably be a dialogue box that pops up every time you use a canister, but that might get annoying. (On the other hand, said dialogue box could also give you an idea of what the canister is going to do to you before you use it, rather than forcing you to save first and reload if you don't want it.) -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! As someone who's so eager to use devices designed to turn their users into killing machines, I'd think you'd have a certain degree of fellow feeling for a creature designed from the ground up to be a killing machine. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Oh, it's probably about 10-12 or so. If it's not high enough, go somewhere else, gain some levels and put skill points into it. I voted for Miranda, because I have a thing for sociopaths. Also, Matala gets referred to as "he" several times, and therefore belongs (if anywhere) on the male poll. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

quote:Well, if levers were hidden in a way that would be hard for the PC to see from all angles, they'd most likely be impossible for the player to see (or at least require even more pixel hunting than they do now). So I don't take the location of the hidden chests/levers as literal, but as a way of representing the fact that they're hidden in a way that's hard for the PC to see. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! You can't get upstairs, and you can only get into the meeting hall during cutscenes. There are a couple of other areas you can't get to either, including the room to the northeast of where you duel Salassar. quote:Prestige classes don't actually cost levels as such -- they just slow your future progression in, say, spellcasting, in return for giving you extra abilities that the base class doesn't. (Actually, some PrCs are just flat-out better than base classes with no meaningful tradeoffs, but let's not talk about those.) Given the Shaper's small hit die (might actually even want to bump it down to d4) and slow attack bonus progression, it's not going to be much of a fighter. By the way, if you want to know more about D&D, most of the core rules are available for free online: http://www.d20srd.org/ [ Monday, March 12, 2007 13:28: Message edited by: Cryptozoology ] -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure!
