Fractions always round down, so 19.5 becomes 19.

Also, I think there's a hard cap on AP at 20/round, so you can't get 21.

The difference there is that, in practice, there's usually no higher authority to enforce laws against you once you've taken over an entire nation (the occasional war crimes trial notwithstanding). It's Keynes all over again; owe your banker a thousand dollars and you're at his mercy, owe your banker a billion dollars and he's at your mercy.

Do you ever hide A4 or otherwise switch out of it when it's running? A4 seems to really hate that, and it can lead to weird behaviour and crashes.

You can't get into Fort Spire yet. Go meet Houghton at the Castle's observation room so you can open the box. After that, you'll be able to meet King Starrus, who will give you your next mission.

You mean Dharmon, not Blosk. And I only got a Blessed Breastplate from the Dharmon weaponsmith, not a Radiant one. And she didn't require any beautiful crystals for any of her items.

Actually, there's a good and bad ending for the Romans. (Try finishing the game without destroying the wands.)

But... but... we had Houghton for that! Chevyn being cloistered because he's incompetent works just as well as Starrus being cloistered because he's young. All Jeff had to do was not kill off Houghton (or, hey, it might have been interesting to kill off Houghton anyway and leave the party to deal with Chevyn from that point onwards).

It might behoove you to avoid starting topics until you've spent a little more time hanging around these forums to see what kind of topics are received well.

There's such a thing as game balance, you know. Wearing eight Gold Rings of Protection at once would be kind of overpowered. And if you compensate by making all rings 4 times weaker, all you've done is make inventory management more inconvenient. :P

Well, the bonus to Mage Spells skill does make your spells more powerful as well as giving you access to more spells.

Oh, and Alo, Pure Spirit gives Magical Efficiency too, and actually gives more of it than Natural Mage does. Admittedly, though, Magical Efficiency on its own isn't a particularly compelling reason to take either trait.

"Advocating"? Either you're unfamiliar with the House Unamerican Activities Committee, or you're all too familiar with it and making a rather clever joke.

You're in a cave. Sticks are made of wood. Ergo, the sticks you find are made of cavewood.

In other words, yes.

This would not be the first time that different people's copies of the exact same version of the same SW game behaved differently in bizarre and inexplicable ways. We're still trying to catalogue all the ways in which different people's copies of BoE work differently. :P

The file you want is z122formeldlg.txt in the Scripts folder.

Odd that you're getting an error in line 167, though. Assuming that BBEdit's line count matches A4's, line 167 should only be run after you kill the shade.

All I can suggest is that you try leaving the area and returning after getting the error, and see if that fixes things.

Plus, there comes a point where you have more than enough spell energy, and you're better off investing in Spellcraft and Magery to make your spells better. I have a hard time imagining how even a full-time mage could need more than 10 intelligence. Maybe a full-time mage/priest who's your only source of Augmentation and Enduring Armor would need more, but why have only one spellcaster in your party anyway?

Please learn the proper way to use quote tags. It is not the way you are using them. You're supposed to put what you're quoting between the [ QUOTE ] and [ /QUOTE ] tag.

A4 Hidden Skills [SPOILERS] in Avernum 4

I strongly suspect so, since that's definitely how it works in BoA. Taking into account the Pole Weapons requirement, I once calculated that in BoA, trying for Blademaster wouldn't actually be more cost-efficient than just putting another point into Melee Weapons until your Melee Weapons skill was about 14, and even then it'd take several levels to pay off. I estimated that given reasonable assumptions about other stats, going for Blademaster would become worthwhile at no lower than level 40 for a pure melee fighter, and quite possibly higher.

I'm not sure how all of the above translates to A4, but it seems as if it may not be worth meeting the requirements to train in Blademaster. I'm doing fine without it so far, at any rate. (Or to put it more accurately, I'm doing fine with the 8 points of it I'm getting from equipment without having to train in it.)

Archery; and races in Avernum 4

Another important consideration is that Parry doesn't reduce damage from missile attacks, and only has a small chance to block them. Since some monsters have very high Parry, this is a big deal and makes an archer very useful in some situations. I wouldn't recommend making a pure archer, but IMHO as a secondary attack form for a spellcaster it makes more sense than melee.
