Correct. And even so, Britannica wrote a fairly detailed response pointing out flaws in the study. For one thing, most of the "errors" in Britannica articles weren't errors at all, just differences of opinion. For another, there was a general consensus that Britannica's articles tended to be better structured and easier to understand. About 30 of Wikipedia's articles were sent back because they were so poorly structured as to be unreviewable -- those articles didn't count toward Wikipedia's error count.

You'd be surprised.

I'm actually paraphrasing Alec's quote somewhat, since I don't have it saved any more. I'm pretty sure his tirade was longer and more entertaining in the original -- about two or three full sentences preceded Saunders' entry, and everyone in the room could see that it was leading up to some dire and obscene threat by the time Saunders came in.

For the record, everyone else in the world finds it hilarious that your country jails people for copyright infringement. It's only a tort just about everywhere else.

Something to ponder: every leader in history who lived by the philosophy "might makes right" was eventually defeated by another leader with more might behind him. Is that fact a refutation or a vindication of those leaders' principles?

Well, yes. That's why I wouldn't reference Wikipedia when writing a paper (although I generally wouldn't reference Britannica either). Wikipedia's still a pretty damned good source of pop culture trivia. :P

I'm pretty sure you do get executed for canister use if you just leave at your earliest opportunity without doing anything, though. (If you didn't use canisters, you get sent off to war and die there, so that isn't much better).

To get the "real" unaligned ending, I believe you have to kill at least the Taker and Barzite leaders. (You may as well scour the whole damned map clear of all life, just to be safe. I know for a fact that doing so gets you the best ending.) Your canister usage has an effect on the unaligned ending, but not a huge one.

Financial incentives would be good, but every carrot also needs a stick. For example, tying a part of welfare payments to how well kids do in school. (To discourage them from dropping out to get a job, or stay on welfare.)
Careful about that sort of thing. Australia currently has a severe shortage of skilled tradesmen (plumbers, electricians, etc.) partly because too many people are encouraged to go into higher education when they're not really suited for it, and alternatives like apprenticeship programs have picked up a social stigma. Not everybody is cut out to be a lawyer, and society wouldn't function if everyone became one.

Is there a level of education that everybody needs in order to participate competently in society? Well, yeah -- basic literacy and numeracy are important for pretty much everyone. But beyond that, a lot of kids are learning a lot of things that they're never realistically going to use.

There are spawners in A4?! I hope you meant "summoning runes" or a crypt that generates shades. Did Jeff put an actual creature-making spawner into A4?

A4 has monsters which have the same graphic as spawners and do the same thing as spawners. None of them are called "spawners", of course, but if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, and spawns monsters like a duck...

I don't like polearms; the Quicksilver Bulwark is just too good to pass up, and it works best on a fighter.

Nephilim are useful even as melee fighters because they get free Gymnastics skill, which helps you act faster and dodge attacks.

As for why you should make a melee fighter at all, well, bows are only comparable in damage potential to melee weapons before you start routinely getting double attacks from Quick Action. It's also worth remembering that some of the better special skills have melee skills as prerequisites.

I beg to differ. Falling Stars definitely earns its R rating. Most of it isn't too objectionable, sure, but one or two parts don't belong in a PG scenario. (Of course, with Falling Stars being what it is, many players will miss those parts, but they're still there.)

That's easily fixed. Transfer the graphics file (it's the one with a filename ending in .cmg) from Spiderweb's Mac copy of the scenario to Imban's Windows copy of the scenario.

Question 3: Disease in General

A particularly instructive example of this principle is the biological control of rabbit populations in Australia. Two viruses have been released in Australia in an attempt to control rabbit populations; myxomatosis was released in the 50s, and calicivirus in the 90s. Death rates from myxomatosis approached 99% in infected individuals, and the virus is believed to have reduced the total rabbit population of Australia by close to 90%. Calicivirus was somewhat less effective but still reduced rabbit populations dramatically.

However, after both viral outbreaks, resistance emerged and the rabbit population soon recovered. Both diseases are still endemic in the Australian rabbit population and cause fairly high death rates, but rabbits breed fast enough that the deaths don't have a huge impact on population growth. It just goes to show that a species in a habitat to which it's well-suited won't necessarily be harmed in the long term by even a very significant short-term population decline.

The Vahnatai seem like the kind of people who could easily get into into the whole martial-art-as-a-way-of-life thing. Ghall-Ihrno likely doesn't feel quite himself when he's not able to practice his combat techniques with a decent weapon.

Hawk King's editor makes the iron bar quest give much more money than usual (among other things), so if you're using that, that's your problem.
