There is a way to work around that. The creature could be modified to do stuff directly from the START_STATE of the town or scenario script. Of course, this can be tricky and unreliable at times, but it's the best we have available to us.

Lifecrafters can trounce any other class, and are very flexible. Personally, I can never get a servile to work, so I stick with lifecrafters.

He's referring to the undead gimmick, probably. It's really been done to death, as are many gimmicks and this pun.

Nija, knock it off.

I prefer the Avernum series to Exile, though Exile does have its charms. Exile just doesn't seem as fleshed out and as well executed as Avernum. Additionally, you really get a feel for the environment with Avernum.

BoA is my favorite. Though I do like A4 a lot. Why? I don't really know. But it's one of the few games I've finished.

Unfortunately, whether that's actually true is up to Dikiyoba to decide. It's her story.

I actually felt a bit of sympathy for Rowling about the ending. On one hand, many readers wanted Harry to die. On the other, it would send out a message that evil is greater than good. So she came to a compromise.

Fans would have been upset by the ending, no matter how it ended.

Dikiyoba.

Not just Nikki. Nicothodes, Nalyd, and I think someone confused me for another 'N' name once. But think of the possibilities! I could post something, and have everyone react to the wrong person!

Of course, it would have a massive tendency to backfire, and most people would figure out the ruse fairly quickly.

...Maybe I could somehow exploit the inexplicable confusion my moniker creates. I mean, since certain members keep thinking other members are me, maybe I could use it to my own advantage.

The only question is: would it work in reverse?

Geneforge IV Survey in Geneforge 4: Rebellion
Shaper
Member # 7472

1. What is your favorite with-the-shapers character?
Alwan. He symbolized what all that a Shaper can be and should be: Strict, powerful, combined with some compassion. No Drakon could say that.

2. What is your favorite Rebel Character?
Salassar. That poor poor fool.

3. What faction do you agree with most?
Shapers. I'm somewhat sided with the rebels in practice, but the Shapers didn't need to be overthrown.

4. What is your favorite spell?
Diamond Spray.

5. What is your favorite creation?
Fire - Kyshakks (useful if you put all of your points in fire shaping, and need to deal magic damage. Plus, they look and sound cool)
Battle - Clawbug (the one I generally default to as well)
Magic - Wingbolt (they make Gazers obsolete)

6. How would you rate this game from 1-10?
On a comparison scale similar to the Lyceum?

Final Score: 8.9

I found Flowers for Algernon to be heart-breaking. Good, but... eh, I won't spoil it.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy was... well, to be honest, I didn't actually care much for it. I found that it had way too many story lines going at once, moved too slowly, and at times was repetitive or tedious. It focused way too much on details that had to be remembered for later and not enough on telling the story. Maybe that's why I preferred [i]The Hobbit[i].

It looks worse. Well, worse isn't quite the right word (most of the time; Nethergate Village looked far better with wood walls). It just looks too Avernum-ish. I mean, the new intro graphics and chapter panes are nice, but it's sort of like how Geneforge was imposed on A4.

And speaking of such, why is the opening music for A4 imposed over the Character Editor, main menu, and character creation screens?

Yes. The idea behind that is that you're supposed to survive and take the abuse the shade dishes out. You aren't supposed to kill it.

And we all know how accurate that is. I'm not going to stop and test this just now, but saying 'the manual said...' is not proof to the contrary, especially when the person who made said manual admitted he made mistakes.

The Magic Shop uses up a lot of precious strings in BoA unless you give most items an equal chance of occurring.
How unlike the BoE magic shop which, coincidentally, also gives an equal chance of all items to appear. It's also superior because it allows plot-critical items to appear that the party isn't supposed to have yet!

With BoA, while it may not be set-and-forget, you actually have some control of what shows up there.

This scenario also illustrates my point about custom spells being second-class citizens. Yes you can buy them and have levels but the description screens are not as good.
You have got to be kidding me. The description screens are not as good? I've heard hollow arguments, but that's the worst one I've heard in a long time. It's made worse by the fact that you're again wrong. Compared to BoE, BoA offers more room to describe it and its effects. In fact, it is in some ways superior to the main spell screen because it can offer larger and more detailed explanations of the spell.

Rotating the viewpoints, the Neverwinter Nights game does it well. I feel it would add realism to the BoA world. I don’t think it would create that much extra work, apart from the graphics. I have had a stab at it myself.
No, not that much extra work. You only need:Several of the standard graphics rotated. Many, many hours (probably close to at least triple-digits) to build the code, involving modifying the positions and rotation of pretty much everything. Many more hours to test the code, essentially being a massive beta test to hunt out glitches and exploits.Every scenario released for BoA to this day to be compatible with this new feature.Essentially, most of the work would not end up with you, but with the rest of the BoA community, all for a feature for which there is little call.
quote:
Damaged gear is found all through Nethergate: Resurrection, I think designers should alter monsters so they don’t always drop perfectly good stuff.
So a community of designers, some new and inexperienced, some old and talented, should bow to your every whim?

Suffice it to say that I wouldn't hold my breath.

Character classes (new) in Geneforge 4: Rebellion
Shaper
Member # 7472
Profile Homepage #7
Actually, what about specialized classes that were very strong in one set of skills (receiving class-related bonuses as well as cheap training) but weak in the other two. For example:

Creation Master - Strong in shaping, weak in combat and magic. New creations start with innate levels of base statistics. Creations cost less essence.

Blademaster - Strong in combat, weak in shaping and magic. Innate boost to hit chances and damage done. Armor more effective and encumbrance penalties reduced.

Magister - Strong in magic, weak in shaping and combat. Spells are cheaper and more effective.

A fluffy turtle ate part of my sanity one day. I pursued it to get my sanity back, and it lead me here.

Actually, I got A3 from CNet and loved it. Purchased that game, then located the site, where they had the prequels and the upcoming game Blades of Avernum. Eventually, I decided to visit the forums, and watched it for a while before joining. Then, in late '06, I did.

I prefer the fictional version, though.

Oh great. Proving Grounds and A Very Unholy Place, all combined into one scenario. Mind you, I have nothing against VUP, but I think that the two combined just might cause Beethoven's Fifth to be played across the entire BoA community, designer and player alike.

Seriously, work for an original idea, and omit massive multi-level labyrinths with demons. The community will thank you for it.

AMEND: I see you're also going for an Undead Valley and Nephilim Mystery combo as well. I suggest you read all of the articles featured here. Yes, all of them. I also suggest that you read the FAQ at the bottom of the list as well.
