Heh, at first I ignored completely this thread, but then today I saw it's always at the top of the Geneforge 4 forum, so I looked at only the last page, and I have to laugh. But still, putting all other stuff behind, don't you realize, that the games are meant to be morally ambigious (i hope i spelled it right), and that that's it. One one hand you have a group that wants freedom and equality, but are willing to do almost anything to acchieve it, and on the other hand you have a group who want to be gods and have all other beings as slaves or worse, but they managed to create a peaceful, although mindless and castlike (i meant to say here, that the society resembles the Indian society with castes), society. And therefore, since people are (thankfully) not of a single mind, there will always be different views. Still, it is remarkable how convincing some of you can be in this virtual environment that internet has become. I wonder how many of you take such firm stances in you real lives as well. Yep, that's where. But its ok, i just gave kass the ability to heal one point of it every time you ask him - the message is always present at the beginning of the conversation. But i seem to have a bigger problem now - when i finish the fight in which legare dies there is an unhandled exception error after the "Goddess" transports the party and Pithoss back to the camp. What exactly did you change? And how many things? For i found that in the first two geneforges you can not edit the file too much - i don't know why, maybe it has something to do with the file size, but i am by no means sure. Oh, and how does it crash - the game ends or it just says something like "gforscen.txt:error in line xxx" and you can still play, bnut everything is screwed up? Well, there I was, minding my own business in the Vahnatai lab, when all of the suddenly i got this dreaded dread curse. But it so happens that, at the stat sheet it says my dread curse "skill" is zero, but all my other stats have been SIGNIFICANTLY lowered - what to do, I checked the scripts and it says, I should get 2 levels of dread curse and nothing else. ?!?!?! Oh yeah, it also says that Kass was supposed to heal it? Well, he does not do it in my case. And no, i did not create a god party - what is a god party anyway??? So to summarize the main problem i think is, that i got 0 levels of dread curse, but lost a lot of levels of other stats. Oh yeah, thanks for the help :) -------------------- USA is evil! Wait! One of you two said he is dead after the shaila quest and one said he is not. The Ratt: "From what it sounds like Greenfang would turn back, even if you did defeat all the shapers early and went through." Well, but if you did that, you would not need to cross that zone anymore, would you? I mean, if you cleared it it would be green and you'd be able to pass directly to the next zone - although i findthat a little unbelievable, due to the linearity and plot, but still? -------------------- USA is evil! G1: Simply - the cutest, while it's rough to play when you've played others, but the story is very good. The endings are very nice, especially the taker one! G2: The most open-ended. Much fun, much new stuff, but the new stuff is somewhat rough, although fun. All in all as good a sequel as paossible. G3: The polished G2, with much more a linear plot - not that i like linearity, but another totally open game with lots of sects would just be lame. I see it as a plot buildup, a connection between G2 and G4. Could get boring at some places, but still very solid. And I loved the NPCs who joined you and stayed! Oh yeah, I also loved the fact that you could really directly hurt the shapers, not just at endgame, but also in the game! G4: REVOLUTION! I love the story and special effects, although it lacks the cuteness of the first games. Could get repetetive as G3, but to a lesser extent than G3 due to the many special effects. I was disappointed that the Shapers seemed so naive and weak! I mean, it was no problem utterly destroying their rivergate keep (i admit it was quite late in the game, but i never even came close to reloading). Dillame itself was much harder. Too bad you couldn't do more against the drakons and survive, but at least we can hope for G5. So, a very solid game, but I hope that G5 brings back the non-linearity, even if it would be the last Spiderweb game to do so! I do hope, Jeff changes his mind on the subject! G5: High hopes: - Hope for non-linearity and a lot of different choices! - Hope for PCs to be able to stay for the whole game! - Hope to finally battle the whole Shaper council and that they are stronger than that pitful Agent Mouavad (i hope i spelled it right)! - Hope for the return of Greta, Ghaldrig, Litalia, Khyryk, Khur and ofcourse Pol! - Hope for another Servile class (the infiltrator?)! - Hope for the dependance of canister side-effects on your intelligence, luck and/or endurance or leadership! - Hope for other things I can't remember just now :) -------------------- USA is evil! Well, i thought of some possibilities okf how to keep Greenfang, but they are unverified. First, does Greenfang disappear when you defeat Shaila and cross the Gateway, because you can pick him up later. Or if you can pass through the border (the one between the forsaken lands an ilyia province i meen) before doing the shaila quest - which i don't know if you can, since you have the papers - maybe by slaughtering all the shapers there, but for that considering the low level, you would need to cheat. Or maybe not - who knows. And the third possible way is to simply create an artila and name it Greenfang! :) And trust me, keeping Greenfang through the whole game is worth the trouble of even editing the scripts, since he/she can do about 100 damage pretty early and also opoisons everyone. -------------------- USA is evil! Well, regardless of other things, if you have the money to spend, go ahead and play the series in order, it's much more fun than just playing a single game Or, if you don't for any obscure reason like the style of the games, do try Blades of Exile/Avernum, where the fans themselves createn the adventures -------------------- USA is evil! My, my, these Drakons certainly have an interesting grammar if their names can be spelled in so many ways :) But seriously I think and hope that at least some drayks, drakons Pol and Litalia will return. OK! I didn't know that, you learn something new every day. Here, we just use the 24-our format (00:00 being midnight and 23:59 being one minute till midnight). Hey, anyone else noticed Ephesos wrote his reply at 12:57 and then edited it half an hour earlier. The Spiderweb forum time-space continuum must really be warped in the most unusual ways. Btw: Arwcwb - You got killed and when you reloaded the items were not there? Or was just one of your characters killed and you continued to play? Well, you can always edit the scripts right before he joins you and give him a higher level. And if you edit scripts further, you can even keep him for the whole game. Although I wouldn't reccomend the latter on the first playthrough as the game is good enough to deserve an unedited (or at least a notverymuchedited) playthrough. :) -------------------- USA is evil! Yes, that's why you should forget the saved game and start anew - it happened to me once, when i edited a couple of scripts and i got stuck and even when i replaced the old scripts it didn't fix the problem - i guess some things are written directly into the saved game files. In my experience you'll have to start anew - since you only reached south end you shouldn't be very far. And let that be a lesson: Don't cheat! yes, the speed should indeed be exactly 24, just for immobile ones it is 0 and for serviles and ornks it is 14 i believe. Have you really deleted the edited scripts and brought back the new ones in their place? If so, try starting the game over, this would have to help. If it doesn't redownload the game. Well, I'm definitely not an expert in this, but since hardly anyone has answered you ... So, what you did was as follows - you downloaded a game from spiderweb's homepage and then you doubleclicked the file and you got the errors right away? Or is there something else that could be of importance? Did you perhaps download a mac version by mistake? Try downloading again or email to Jeff, he should have more experience with this. Ps: If your computer is guilty, try fixing the problem (virus, spyware, registry problems etc.) or formatting the hard drive (this will erase all data - in case you wouldn't know).
