Deathmatch Tournament -- Round Two, Part One in General

Some of these are easier than I thought:

Match 1 - Ephesos has luck and priest spells to keep Lazarus at bay until he can plant a tree on him.

Match 2 - Alec might be better at flaming, but Infernal always fights dirty to make Alec flame out and get banned.

Match 3 - Dikiyoba has her pet fyoras flame Nico long before those mechanical pencils get to do damage.

Match 4 - Thuryl trolls Thralni until he's ready to deal a death blow.

Match 5 - This is the closest one as the two sneakiest power gamers go at it. DV has his legion of clawbugs to do his scouting to force Synergy to reveal his position when he has to defend himself. While Synergy charms and slays the clawbugs, DV has time for his sneak attack to win the round.

Match 6 - Too easy since while Tyran strips down and paints himself blue, Magma armors up to use the broken parry of GF2 to completely protect himself from all attacks. A few ripostes and Tyran kills himself. With his dying breath, Tyran mutters just wait til Nethergate: Resurrection and my sword of vengenance.

Match 7 - Archmage Alex uses his stick figures as scouts to locate Riibu and nail her with TNT.

Match 8 - Schrodinger uses his walkthrough to devise the ultimate plan to defeat Saunders. After his victory he writes a FAQ to explain it to the rest of us.

Rentar-Ihrno's Keep - Arrgh! in Avernum 4

The lower level of that keep is a pain. You need to go south and then east a little fighting lots of Vahnatai. Beyond the room with an altar is a passageway that looks out through a window at the 2 Vahnatai that guard a door. This is hard to see, but there is a lever near the window that unlocks the door. Then you and the Vahnatai allies can get through that guarded door to see Rentar-Ihrno. You have to go back around to the stairs and head north since there isn't a short cut.

If they aren't inside the keep, then you have to go back to the upper level and use a wheel to unlock the main entrance.

It helps to have lots of health and energy for this area. You might want to go back to Fort Remote and recharge. That's why I always destroy all the pylons to give me a quick and cleared path back to the Fort.

Aran thought it would be a great idea to have a permanent record so nothing would ever be lost when Jeff purges the board to make room. Now he has to go an search for all references to himself that might cause future embarassment. He really shouldn't have talked about his boss so much.

I don't remember the BoA version, but A3 had different types of boulders that would be affected by each level. So you could get past harder obstacles.

Avernum 1 - Giant Castle in The Avernum Trilogy

You can always get a character raised from one of the healers in Fort Dunvo or any of the other places. It'll cost some money if you don't have a save from before the death and don't want to replay the fight.

There should be a key that you get in the Giant Castle that will unlock a smaller gate to the east of the main entrance. I think there are two keys available (off a giant and I think the other is in a chest). You can't leave out of the main entrance.

One drakon is enough if you have some fire shaping items.

You just need something with over 600 health.

Jeff could probably make a Blades of Geneforge, but he will need a lot of convincing that there is a market to make it worth his time. Poor Blades of Avernum sales pretty much have eliminated any chance of seeing it for the next few years.

I think I remember the same problem. I think it was a bad square in the storeroom that causes the problem.

Try moving your party differently when you do that room and see if it makes a difference.

The easiest way to beat that unbound is to have a high health creation attack it and hang back out of range and heal your creation. Drakons, gazers, and kyshakks work best.

Did you use all the protection spells that you could on your drayks? You need to also try to get close enough to use essence shackles to slow it down so you have more time. It does more damage the longer you fight it.

The machinery to the south puts up an extremely tempoary damping field to help keep it from fighting you, but I never found it that useful.

Killing the swamp goblins to collect trophies takes time. Keep circling through the swamp until new ones appear. The best spots are in the southwest below Fort Dranlon and along the water further south..

The A4 header is the area of text above the topics list. The link of interest is Hawk King's A4 Editor.

When you look at the text near the end of the file you will see the extra lines of code that alter the characters and give you items. Copy the file and remove the features that you don't want. Then you can copy this file to the Avernum 4 files to replace a hopefully backupped file for the start point of the game.

There is another editor or trainer that gives different results, but I don't remember the topic it's in.

Some of these will be close, but here are my views:

Match 1 - Infernal fights dirty and goes in for the kill. Excalibur just can't take it.

Match 2 - Delicious Vlish has experience and is known for using terrain to his advantage. All those years in Geneforge has hone his ability to lead his enemies to their doom where he can pick them off before they can attack him. Nioca doesn't stand a chance when those tenacles start slapping him around.

Match 3 - I think the Silent Assassin beats Lord Grimm on creative traps. Lord Grimm might have range with reaper disks, but they don't help escaping the Silent Assassin's fiendish plans.

Match 4 - Too close to call. It depends upon how much help the chicken gods give Thralni.

Match 5 - Lazarus keeps coming back for more. Just when Nalyd thinks he's finally one, Lazarus will return. Plus he has more experience

Match 6 - Too close to call even though I'm in it. I'm not worried about the fluffy turtles. It's those stick figures bearing TNT that scare me. Acid spray will take some of them out, but if the TNT goes off then I still can get taken out in the area effect. So I could lose by a nose.

Match 7 - Nikki has it with those deadly mechanical pencils.

Match 8 - Saunders on experience.

Jeff's working on getting a new Nethergate: Resurrection beta ready for Monday. He wants to get this game out as soon as possible.

He'll respond to this thread when he feels like it.

It's in the eastern part of the basement level, but not with the golem (he's guarding a knowledge brew). Enter from inside the city and go north of the prison cells. I think you have to search some containers. You will get a message when you find it.

Jeff doesn't want to lose his under 13 players when their parents find out. Why don't you go over to Underdogs and download Leisure Suit Larry since it's now abandonware.

A Chinese based mythos game will need a lot of new graphics. He could get by with an Arthurian legends Nethergate style game with Round Table knights versus the forces of Modred. It would cost to much to get the Monty Python's Holy Grail license.

He could do mid-Eastern mythos with sorcerors, Djinns and Ifrits.
