I would have held off on mechanics of 12 until after the Cairns gate. Since you are so high in mechanics I assumed that you hit the Boiling Mudpits for the easy experience. High mechanics really hurts in the early part of the game except for the extra experience and being able to save living tools. It will be interesting to see how you do in Sandros Mines. Daze is really useful in the early game to keep from getting swarmed. It's harder to edge up and just get one at a time from most of those groups. It used to be OS 9 with a small patch for the application file that you clicked on that was upgraded to OS X. I supposed that Jeff now only has the OS X version available for download. You might be able to find the older version on an old CD-ROM as a demo file that could be installed and uses your current preference file to register it. You can't go west of the sealed gates in the Turabi Gates zone. Drayks have the advantage that they never run out of spell energy during combat. Wingbolts do more damage and their melee attack with poison isn't that bad. They are a little more fragile, but if you kill your opponents it doesn't really matter. Kyshakks are a little less damaging in the initial round, but they continue damaging with their lightning aura attack and they have enough health to survive most attacks. Except for advice on specific parts of the game like locating items, there is no right answer for creating a party and playing. Do try to use proper spelling since you will get picked on about it. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

This is going to make my new singleton game more fun. I have to check if I still have some of the stat enhancing weapons left. I can't wait to see how it works with leaving the +1 AP Cryos spear in the quick action slot so I can keep my shield for combat. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Since Jeff posted there's no point in posting odds for starting out as a surface tourist cut off from the touring group. I'm guessing that we start out as adventurers and can join up with the Anama (like in A3) and one other like the Darkside Loyalists since Jeff mentions political intrigue. The west side of Sandros Mine is an expert area to be done after you started in the second map section. Stockpile healing items because it is hard to do as a single character. The trick with the soul twins is to stay along the north edge and move up after buffing (haste, protection, blessing, etc.) just enough to attack them. Use essence shackles to slow them down. Wrack helps to increase your damage. I found spray crystals and the like are great since you can attack both at once. Melee doesn't work as well since one will retreat. The golem is harder to do. That one really helps to have a friend. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

You start out as a group of peasants being robbed by a band of adventurers. You kill the adventurers and decide that their life beats what you've been doing. So following a note with a map that their leader was carrying, you go off to seek fame and fortune with the Darkside Loyalists. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Making a proper Castle of the Winds remake would need to add several spells to duplicate the teleport ones. Also that game really needed bags of holding the way loot piled up. Also monsters had a definite tracking system to find you that would have to be scripted in to the game. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Here's a different beginning. You start out as Anama missionaries sent by to convert that evil mage ridden land of Avernum. Do you keep the faith or turn to the dark side and learn magic? Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Mung demons are the worst thing for spellcasters because besides the dumbfounding they deplete spell points. I found the best way to deal with them is arrows and potions until they are dead. Then you can restore spell ability and devaste the rest. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

In order to keep the main topic on track, I'm copying Khoth's question on complexity to a new topic. quote:If memory serves me, the first million digits of pi have a completely uniform distribution of the numbers 0 to 9. So both strings of numbers should appear to be almost completely random. I'm not in the mood to count to verify for these strings, but they seem to have a fairly uniform distribution. So if you don't know the significance of the first string, they would appear to have the same complexity of information. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

You get holiday threads that bring out members of different religions to inflate their post counts. That's when you see most of the Jewish members appear or when Infernal starts another flaming thread to get support for Israel (although the last one didn't get much notice), There are a few more minor cults working to become religions, like the cult of the Nine Headed Cow and for Cthulu. It sounds like there will be enough changes so having some tutorial messages will be useful the first time. Besides after a while you get good at hitting the return key to remove the message before you have to read it. I think the idea for more action will either be like Avernum 2 where there is an attack on the starting point or Geneforge 4 where there is a real event to get you into the game. It depends upon what you do with your shaper. Captain's shiv is nice for the blessing magic boost until you have it naturally and you can always swap it. Guardian claymore is nice for the strength +2 for you since it allows for more equipment without becoming encumbered. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

The maps are upstairs, I think in the northwest corner. Just watch that the shade doesn't attack by getting too close, so save before exploring. The southwest corner upstairs has a monster to kill for another reward. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |
