I just handed in my final assignment for this apprenticeship. Unless I failed the mathematics exams as badly as I dare not think about, I will be a real MaTA within about a month or two. The assignment was quite interesting. In case you

Kel: I'd assumed it was a masters in somthing technology-based... The "Ma2 bit kinda pointed me there, though. -------------------- And when you want to Live How do you start? Where do you go? Who do you need to know? Posts: 2864 | Registered: Monday, September 8 2003 07:00 |

It looks like the most boring thing ever. But hey, the world needs people like you to know stuff like this this so that people like me don't have to. Thanks Aran. -------------------- You lose. Posts: 2156 | Registered: Thursday, August 24 2006 07:00 |

Aran is to become a 'Mathematical-Technical Assistant'. I don't really know what that qualifies him for, though. -------------------- We're not doing cool. We're doing pretty. Posts: 3335 | Registered: Thursday, September 4 2003 07:00 |

Wow, I have no knowledge of German computer jargon. Basically you took a file with one number on each line. (The first three lines are comment, however) Each number has a prefix, either M or D, designating whether you are using Mayan or decimal notation for that number, followed by the number itself. You output the sum of all the numbers, the min and max, and the range (max - min), in both Mayan and decimal. Did I get the gist of it? -------------------- "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it." --Albert Einstein -------------------- Posts: 536 | Registered: Sunday, September 7 2003 07:00 |

Kel, SoT: Yeah, it's Mathematical-Technical Assistant. For the last 30 years (and until this year), it was a pretty popular apprenticeship which would be practical enough to look good on applications, but which would at the same time lead to a "Vordiplom" (somewhat analogous to the Bachelor). This year, the whole set-up changed, it got renamed to Mathematical-Technical Software Developer (MaTSE), and basically I'm glad that all that doesn't affect me since I'm done. ET: Those wise in the ways of computers will eventually rule the world, you know. :P WKS: Yup, that's the ticket. Sarasaphilia, German is my native tongue. If I had difficulty learning things in it, something would be very wrong. :P Eph: EotS will be out in a few months now at most. Salmon: Mmm... Offer? I'm somewhat tired and my memory isn't working as it should. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. I already built one a few weeks ago. It looks like this: Well, actually I only programmed it. The robot is finished. It drives around on a table, hits walls and turns around, grabs cans and tries to move them to its home base. And in a week, it will fight and win!
