The spellbooks (look like giant open books on a pedestal) are found through out the game and depending upon which game will increase your knowledge of the spell or increase it to level 3 if you already know level 1 or 2 (earlier Avernum games 1 to 3). Halfast heard the Blind Seer's news that the Vale was dying and that magic was ending. For a mage adventurer this was dire for without magic he would be hard pressed to protect his Anama stolen treasure from other theives. But there was news that the Runic League was gathering adventures to save the Vale. Halfast thought to himself, "Maybe someone can find a use for these scrolls from the Anama. At least I can get something for selling them and they won't sell me out to the Anama." He decided to change course. He could get a boat to head towards Manarina and see if he could get there before the adventures left. He was getting too old for this, but there might be some profit in it for him. After all his money wasn't going to last forever. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Compress the save game folder, transfer it using a flash drive, and expanding it on the other computer. I do this to save old games so I can go back and look at something before it happened. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Don't invest in creation shaping magic. By the end when you need some support you can get 7 with items in all 3 shaping classes and you don't need the items after you created your creations. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I don't think it qualifies as cannibalism when a muffin eats a human, however the size and weight difference does make it unlikely that the muffin gets more than a snack. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

That's what icy crystals are for (killing wingbolts) and they give great damage with some missle skills. For most of the Forsaken Lands you can get by with just unsellable javelins while you wait for a decent melee weapon and build up your character. Besides you want a good range attack for speeding up the rate of killing. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

You could always replay the demo with a new party and see if you can make it better. I always find that it takes a few tries to get used to the changes from the last game. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Name: Halfast Took (current alias) Age: 45 Gender: Male Height: 5' 4" Weight: 120 # Magic: (Yes/No) (If yes level of training): Yes, middle range combat spells and minor healing and defensive magic Skills: Mechanical ability with traps and locks, some ability to translate languages and magical scrolls, some slight ability with weapons Occupation: Adventurer Small Bio: Halfast Took is the current name of an adventurer wandering north towards the wastes. He used to be part of a band of that sacked an Anama Temple, killed all the inhabitants, destroyed the bodies beyond raising, looted the place, and burned what they didn't take. Now he is moving out of the area before he gets connected to what happened. He's found over the years that most problems wash away under a nice spray of acid. For those that don't, he's learned some more powerful spells. "I've got to get out of here. If the Anama find out I was involved, they'll keep bringing me back just for the chance to kill me again after torturing me. At least they can't trace the gold after we melted it down. This ought to buy me passage and a place to stay once I'm out of their reach. Lousy scrolls. You think I could find something use about how they work their magic. Translating this junk isn't worth the effort. At least it's useful for kindling. There better be something good in what's left." Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Jeff announced in his newsletter that Avernum 4 and 5, Blades of Avernum, Geneforge 4 and Nethergate: Resurrection will get upgraded. No word on the older games. There are test versions of the upgrades available, but some have minor problems that will get corrected before they become official. You could try downloading them from the different game forums and see if they work better on your system. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

It depends what you want to do as your primary attack. A servile can be played as a weapons character like a guardian or as a battle magic character similar to an agent/infiltrator. I found that most of my points at the start actually went to mechanics and leaderships so I could get the free experience from doing quests and looting around Southforge Citadel. A few points to missle weapons and/or battle magic makes it possible to use those unsellable javelins for attacks or to beef up that attack from bolt of fire. Daze from mental magic is what you use to give you time to pick off the swarms. There really isn't a wrong way to go with a servile since you can even use him as a poor lifecrafter that is always short of essence. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Nancy and Elspeth hinted at their special relationship that was frowned on by the Empire so they were sent into Exile (Avernum). Jeff doesn't come out and explicitly say it, but it's fairly clear through the first 3 games. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I'm reading Dzur by Steven Brust, but you really need to start the series with Jhereg to understand what's happened so far. It's easier to read a stand alone book by him like To Reign in Hell that explains how the world was made. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

You have to understand that the people providing the information can't always distinguish what triggers certain evernts. You have to go into the scripts for some information like needing leadership at a certain level to get a dialog response that lets you into a certain area. Most testers and experienced players would have had leadership of 7 already since that gives extra experience and a spore baton back at the East Illya checkpoint. This also helps in recruiting during the Fens of Aziraph. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I suppose you could pile the garbage up in the same small area until you exceed the area's memory limit and some of it would vanish. Exile games wouldn't let you place anymore on the floor when this happened, but Avernum just makes it go away. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

It depends upon your opinion, but in chapter 8 of Avernum 5, west of Melanchion's Keep dwells a creature that is planning to start a new and even scary race as the first of it's kind. Hopefully the GIFTSs will eat them all. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

From Drakefyre's walkthrough link above the topics: To get through the New Factory quickly, go south to the secret passage at (10,17). Go through and make your way to another secret passage at (6,19). Pass through the secret passage at (6,44) and press the button located at (4,44). You will be teleported to the exit.
