It depends upon usage. Parody is protected. Not getting a profit from doing so is sometimes protected depending upon whether it affects sales of the copyright holder. Releasing a free translation of a book is usually not allowed. Writing in the style of an author is usually okay. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Congratulations on another milestone. Missed the 4000 one I see. Now write a chapter about reaching a milestone and getting your peers approbation instead of what's happening to Jewels, Ephesos, Lazarus, etc. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

You can still play BoE on Linux if that version still works and Basilisk Games made a version of Eschalon: Book I that works on some Linux systems. It's really funny to read how that game can fail depending on the Linux version in use. Actually Linux is a secret Microsoft plot to fragment the operating system market so that user buy Microsoft in frustration. Then Apple allowed Windows to work on their computers and Gates had a fit and died. They have an impersonator that they bring out to give interviews and speeches. Copyrights protect the hours of investment in creating the game. After all how would you like it on pay day if some one came along and took your paycheck? After all no one could claim sole use to the name on it. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Halfast browsed through a display of swords at a blacksmith's shop. With magic becoming somewhat unreliable now that the Vale was dying, it was time to consider having to fight like the rest. Manual killing was so tedious. Worse there was a good chance of getting hit when you actually had to face an opponent. Magic was so much more efficient and satisfying. The group that had stood in the hall when the instructions were given were the usual lot of money grubbing adventurers. Most wouldn't even last the week. The second rule of adventuring was to make sure you had partners that could protect you in a fight. Except for that ex-high priest that had killed a skyboat's crew, most of them didn't look like they could fight their way out of a parchment sack. He should of asked if the reward was a fixed amount per person or to be split among the survivors. Halfast was going to make sure he was among the survivors. The only connection between the two is that Jeff got lazy and imported the Geneforge engine and graphics when he made Avernum 4. I'm waiting for the new game after Avernum 6 so we can have a new discussion on which world it's more closely related to. *sarcasm* Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Halfast wandered through Manarina towards the hall where the adventurers gathered. All through out the city the people talked not about the Anama or the dying Vale, but of the drunken ex-high priest of TM and of his fate. The bookmakers were taking bets. Even odds that Vlad was to be exiled, again. 2 to 1 that they wouldn't use a skyboat when he was to be exiled. 10 to 1 that he was to be imprisioned for life. 50 to 1 that he was to be locked in the deepest level of the Rock to incinerate trash for the rest of his life. The highest odds were that Vlad would be allowed to join the expedition to save the Vale. Halfast would have bet, but he wasn't going to be here long enough to collect. He strode in to the hall as the triad made their announcement, Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

The alcohol fumes and flaming breath should do the trick. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Yes. If you don't need the ability in the early part of the game, then wait on using skill points or a canister. So save your game before using a canister and then decide whether you want to keep the result at this time. For most players not being able to use a trainer doesn't make a difference. They are expensive. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

You can get by on food stamps, but most people don't want to spend the time in food preparation and tend to buy unhealthly foods anyway. Cheaper grades of hamburger are one way they go on this type of menu. One of my friends went and bought a month's supply of macaroni and cheese boxes until his mother found out how he was saving money. There have been studies since the end of World War II on getting by on low budgets and most find that it takes a lot of discipline to do so. You also have to take the time to shop for the ingredients. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Some of the information you want is available in topics on special abilities. Each game in the series has slightly different results for using special abilities. In the early games you get abilities that you can use once per day while in later games you get special skills before you could train for them when you raise certain skills. Halfast's stomach finally recovered a few days after reaching land once the ground stopped swaying. Heading south he wished that he could find a skyboat to speed his way to Maranira. Instead he encountered an Anama patrol out to convert the area. Like rats they seemed to be everywhere. "Halt," the patrol's commander said, "Anyone using this road must be inspected." Halfast muttered a haste spell and as the world slowed down he said, "Inspect this." Bolts of lightning sprayed forth from his hands. In seconds the patrol was lying on the ground dying or trying to flee. A few well placed shots of acid finished them off in agony as they tried to escape. "i really hate Anama." said Halfast to the dying. Now the hard part began as he looted them for money. Then finding a shovel he dug a hole to bury the bodies after using more spells to destroy all the remaains beyond raising. "Rule number 5 of adventuring. Never leave any witnesses." This rule had kept his name and face off all those reward posters in the Anama controlled lands. Being careful had made him rich and unknown. Two more days brought him to Runic League controlled land where Halfast finally could get a skyboat to carry him to Manarina. There he sought out the mages to see if they wanted his Anama scrolls. I found when I've mostly cleared an area to use "w" for walk and slightly shift the mouse to steer. Still it takes time to stop. Cartography of 1 will give a basic outline and if you go south to do the sextant quest you can trained for 5 levels. 7 or 8 gives most details. I'm shocked by how much got through beta testing as basic interface problems. Keyboard commands were left out that could ease playing problems. The crates and barrels are arranged along the center of the west wall from north to south to change the location that you go to through the portal. I think there are rugs to place them on. If you don't have the right order you have to go back to an earlier save or keep going back through the portals to the puzzle place to reorder them. The Geneforge games are roughly the same size in number of areas to explore. The first one might be a little smaller. The difference is the number of sides that you can join to see different endings. The first 2 games have the most differences, GF3 has basically 2 endings (shaper or rebel), GF4 has two sides that determine which side you fight on in the final battle and three outcomes for the two sides. Walking speed in Eschalon isn't much worse than Avernum depending upon your computer's hardware. I would prefer keyboard movement over mouse. Besides you can use the change in walking speed to determine when you are approach a monster. My main gripe is it's a small world (island) after all. There are large areas of nothing followed by all the monsters piling up at once so you have to run away to recharge. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

The weather was increasing getting foul. Halfast had never seen a storm come up so quickly in all his travels and to see snow this early in the year was unheard of according to the sailors. He couldn't wait until they reached shore and he could travel by land again to reach Manarina. The port had been filled by those stupid Anama followers that seem to infest everything these days. Luckily he still had a wooden Anama symbol and a cheap ring to pretend that he was one of them. That made it possible to slip past the guards and get a boat. Hiding his magically skills was a necessity unless he wanted a major fight without any help. Now Halfast just wanted to reach shore. He had already lost his lunch and all his previous meals to sea sickness. He had given up trying to keep anything down until land. His only wish now was for this to be over and to reach Manarina. He kept the note hidden telling of the gathering there. With so many superstitious Anama sailor, they would toss him over the side to see if that would abate the storm. The Vahnatai that help you move around. First to get them to R-I's fort, then they wait to enter, then they wander downstairs to the doorway, and finally inside. It's possible that they got killed off by the guards and traps, but when I played I went ahead each time to clear the way and make sure they didn't suck up my experience.
