I think the fact that no one understands you would be enough to drive most people to depression. That, and opposition in the academic/artistic community. Jewel's not the only one to have that problem. I don't see it now, but I've had it before with the Legends of Divinity IC 1 thread. -------------------- (Reads Jewel's comment on Rule #88.) I'm not sure about OBoE, but supposedly it's nigh impossible to get Spiderweb games to work on Wine. I haven't tried it myself, but the problem might be there. -------------------- "You sure you don't want the tent we consumated our marriage in?" By Ephesos: quote:I agree that graphics aren't everything, but they are something. I don't think graphics will ever be a major selling point for Spiderweb (unless there will be games developed on a licensed engine, which would be a diffent story), but that doesn't mean that Jeff should strive for low-end graphics. (Though I do agree that extended attack animations don't have a place in Spiderweb's turn-based, tactical-minded combat.) -------------------- I never travel without my diary. It's been brought up before, and answered the same before. It's a pretty huge market, and the upside of classic RPGs not being well represented is that Spiderweb isn't as likely to be muscled out by a larger company. -------------------- To lose one parent, Mr Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness. - Lady Bracknell Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Unless music was obtained from the public domain, Spiderweb would have to pay for it. This translates into me paying more for the game. Besides, I can play music of my choice at the same time (which I usually choose not to). -------------------- Laughter is not at all a bad beginning for a friendship, and it is far the best ending for one. - Oscar Wilde Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

What language are you using, Niemand (can't check myself 'cause StuffIt is of the Devil)? -------------------- The McKenzie Brothers explain Nimtz and Stahlhofen's observations by way of analogy with a 20-car train departing Chicago for New York with 100 cases of 24 Molsons Beer ("two-fours" in Canuck-speak). The stopwatch starts when the centre of the train leaves the station, but the person holding the stopwatch drinks a case of 24 at each stop. So when the train arrives in New York, now comprising only two cases of beer, the person holding the stopwatch wakes up from his drunken stupor, doesn't remember a thing for the last 23 hours, can't find the stopwatch (he sold it to someone to stake him the last 2 cases) and now claims the trip was "instantaneous" although the train itself hasn't exceeded its reported speed. And there you have it - The McKenzie Brothers' explanation [of group velocity]... Beer DOES affect relativity, in a relative sort of way. I guess. What's your party make-up like? I found that the way I played Nethergate as Romans differed a lot from the way I usually play as Celts (or my usual strategy in the Avernum games, for that matter). If you're using the default Roman party, you'll only have one spellcaster. Make sure that he can cast Shield. I think that he does by default, but I can't remember for sure. In any case, Shield is a low-level Roman's best friend (a Celt's, too), with Battle Rage not far behind. My usual attack follows this pattern: my javelin thrower runs three spaces away and throws a javelin, my two fighters move away (but not so far as to make my javelin thrower or spellcaster the closest target), and my spellcaster casts Shield on Fighter #1. Repeat, but this time (surprise, surprise) cast Shield on Fighter #2. By now, your fighters are probably getting tired of those pesky Goblins insulting their cowardice, so let them (finally!) engage them. Make them fear your superior Roman training! (At least, that's the way I do Romans at low levels. Others will probably have better tactics. For instance, I haven't even touched First Aid with my Roman party - is this a useful skill? But the moral of the story is not to charge into battle before your buff spells. A Shield spell can save you a number of Minor Healings, and it only costs one more energy point than Minor Healing does.) As with most other Spiderweb games I've played, following the storyline gives you the easier quests, and in the right order. I don't remember the Ruined Hall being too difficult - as long as you're healed up before you head downstairs; that fairy seems to know something you don't. -------------------- My wallpaper and I are fighting a duel to the death. This is a 'problem' in Blades of Avernum too. Either the definition of the bookcase terrain needs to be changed so it blocks movement and view, or a wall needs to be put on the adjacent tile. I let Jeff know about this, but he didn't respond. Rather hard to get changes when you're just testing a port instead of the original game. -------------------- He is really not so ugly after all, provided, of course, that one shuts one's eyes, and does not look at him. - Oscar Wilde Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Changing Creature Definitions in Blades of Avernum Editor | |

When I change cr_default_attitude, new creatures have the new default attitude, but creatures that have already been placed in the Editor has the old default attitude. I can understand why it's like this (the Editor doesn't have a 'default' choice for attitudes), but I'd like to know if there are any other creature definition changes that don't affect old creature instances. I made the bulk of this scenario two years ago with the intention that I'd leave all the definition fine-tuning last. -------------------- No flying machine will ever fly from New York to Paris. - Orville Wright, 1908 Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |
