Hello. I have a lil problem on Avernum IV. I'm up to Mertis and I've done everything there is to do up to that point except for the rat quest because I couldn't find enough rat parts and ran out of rats to kill. That's not my problem, though. My problem is that I'm at Mertis with the "Clear the Spiral" quest but I'm unable to break the barriers. It's bad enough that I nearly die at every fight. I don't have any more energy potions nor herbs to make more, so I can fight at most 2-3 cauldron zombie things before I have to run back to town to get my mana back up. So, I'm having a rather difficult time of it. My question is, where can I get more dispel barrier stones or can I get the spell without dying on my way to it? I had thought to cheat, using the alt+shift+d thing, but that didn't work for the exp one, and really, given the choice, I'd rather not cheat anyway. Any tips on the barrier problem would be most appreciated.. or thoughts on something I should try first. I already know I can't kill the big bad guy over in slith lands west of dranlon yet.. died many times trying. And I have been too scared to try the honeycomb yet.. so if I should do that first, please let me know. Thank you in advance for any help given. :) Posts: 4 | Registered: Thursday, August 30 2007 07:00 |

quote:Go back to the places where you found rats before (storerooms, if I recall correctly). They respawn. quote:Yes, you need to go into the Honeycomb first. If you talk to some people in Mertis, you'll learn that there's someone in the Honeycomb who has dealt with the zombies before. He's in the north-west corner. You can get a map of the Honeycomb here. By the way, have you done the Eastern Gallery quests yet (bandits and chitrachs)? -------------------- Never speak disrespectfully of Society, Algernon. You might be able to do the Tower Colony quests south of Mertis. The quest to clear the Tower of a certain demon will get you access to the dispel barrier spellbook. This is the easiest solution to the piercing crystal problem. Also not all the barriers need to be done at the start. Just the ones on the lower level blocking the path to the northeast. You will also meet Oliver again and he has some nice useful items. But really you should slowly clear the Honeycomb and always retrace your path. It's easy to get overextended trying to find a new way back. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

You don't quite need to go to the Honeycomb to defeat the zombies. Acid spray actually works well, if a bit slow. Most people ignore this spell, but if you don't want to brave the Honeycomb, that's your next best bet. -------------------- A few cats short of a kitten pot pie... It's also the only damage type that the undead in the Mertis Spiral don't have freakish resistance to. -------------------- May the fires of Undeath burn in your soul, and consume it. Posts: 1636 | Registered: Wednesday, January 5 2005 08:00 |

Thank you, everyone. :) I actually went on the east side of Thorius' place and found a monster-free path straight to the Magi Tower, killed the demon (surprisingly easy compared to cauldron mobs) and got the dispel barrier spell. I really appreciate all your help. :) Thank you. Posts: 4 | Registered: Thursday, August 30 2007 07:00 |

Yall were so helpful before, I'm back for more. I'm sorry, but I collected 2 vahnatai cloaks and a waveblade, but the dude in the castle won't accept them from me. I took the job from the job board and only had the 2 cloaks on me, then went off and found some vahnatai to kill and got a waveblade, ran back to the castle, thinking "woo another quest done" and the dude won't take them nor give me an option to say "here I have your stuff". I thought he wants to be more comfy! :P Anyone have an idea why he won't take them? Thanks in advance. :) PS: Really looking forward to A5 now that I've found and fell in love with A4! If I recall correctly, he wants a Fine Waveblade, not just a regular one... those are a bit harder to find. -------------------- TM: "I want BoA to grow. Oh, that would explain it.. and now that you've pointed that out, I think he said something about "of fine quality" or something in his job post. Thanks! :) Now to find a fine waveblade and do my other quests, lol. :) Posts: 4 | Registered: Thursday, August 30 2007 07:00 |

Unless you get lucky checking out that place in the Sulphurous Flats or the box problem when you bring it to the Castle, the next fine waveblade isn't until west of Fort Remote. So you might want to do other things first. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |
