:D for Milu! Blades Invaders is virtually complete (actually, it was virtually complete a couple hours after I started it). I'll change a creature script after work tomorrow so some of the Invaders will try to out-manoeuvre the party, and then it will be ready to join Proving Grounds and Blades of Rogue. Then Nethergate, then the story scenario I had originally intended to do on Friday evening. Something tells me it won't be as easy to complete as this whipped-together thing. -------------------- Parking for Drive-Thru service only. I claim Cerberus. -------------------- Note: Significant plot details follow. Near the end of the novel, Harry confronts Snape, who lets Harry know that he's feeling very depressed. Harry accuses Snape of murdering Dumbledore and kills him in turn, despite Snape's protests that Dumbledore was one of the least benightedly unintelligent life forms it has been his profound lack of pleasure not to be able to avoid meeting. Significant plot details end here. Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Yeah, pretty much what I thought. Altering the skills/spells/etc. themselves wouldn't be too difficult, at least not for what I have in mind. It's the stuff that you can't set with AvernumScript (character graphics, etc.) that I was worried about. quote:Y'know, usually people wait until a scenario is released before referring to it with obscure acronyms. :P -------------------- How do you tell when you're out of invisible ink? - Steven Wright Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

You do not possess the right to be entertained. Moreover, these products have to come from somewhere. Even if you were altruistic enough to legitimately aquire all your products a few years after you stole them (which I doubt), you are still depriving the artists/programmers/etc. of their income five years ago, when they needed it most. quote:The internet isn't "Real Life"? News to me. Just because vendors are distributing over mediums that weren't around a couple decades ago doesn't mean that they are denied the same laws as more traditional businesses that operate in "Real Life". -------------------- (Yes, this will be locked - this board belongs to a shareware company. Don't worry. The sequel to Stairway, Escalator, involves going up. And just wait until Elevator is released. I don't want to spoil it, but it's going to revolutionize the genre. -------------------- For Sale Buy Owner Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Roll call! I'm kinda curious who all plans on submitting. I was toying with the idea of doing something, but I decided I'd rather travel down to Red Deer to watch my sister in a band concert on Saturday. I may take off Thursday or Friday, but it all depends on how slow someone in my lab is getting something ready for me. Of course, the fact that I haven't had any serious Editor usage since a half-completed scenario a year and a half ago might have something to do with it. -------------------- Caution: Water on road during rain. While spoilers really didn't matter for the previous six books, I'm really hoping they will for this one. The first six books followed this pattern: - 95% of the books was on developing Harry's character, describing the setting to mage-wannabes, and liberally sprinkling both clues and red herrings. - 2% of a Scooby-Doo-esque recap. - 2% of a fighting climax. - 1%, as someone who I can't remember has already put it, of Dumbledore telling Harry how good of a soldier he is. Of course, there is variations, but as a whole, the first six books left all the action until the very end. The books would be much better if Rowling would spread the action throughout the books instead of leaving it to the end with the FINAL SHOWDOWN*. Goblet of Fire does this, but I can't think of any other off-hand. I'm really hoping this one will be different. Harry has already indicated that he won't be pursuing another academic year at the school, opting to fight the lich instead (What's this? A high school drop-out as a role model?). Obviously the school will be a major setting, but the hunt for the remaining phylacteries will force the novel to split up the action. Of course, this assumes that Riddle didn't keep all his phylacteries in the same safety deposit box... * I was going to say "have multiple climaxes instead of one big one at the end", but with all the s/wand/wang/g innuendo... ah, well. -------------------- Note: Significant plot details follow. As Harry tries to defend the Ministry, fending off Klansmen in a scene reminiscent of his previous battle in the same location, he is unexpectedly saved by his godfather, who strides forth out of the Veil of Death with a formidable weapon... Significant plot details end here. Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

I'd prefer converting items just before and just after entering scenarios. Making a standardized graphics set seems like it would be more trouble than it's worth; if you want to has persistant custom graphics throughout a series, convert items with custom graphics to placeholder ones just before scenario exit, and back again just after entering the next. -------------------- "It's official: Checkers is the cure for AIDS. Well, yeah, Larry Gardener has always been a bit arrogant. In his defense, the rest of his world is worse. Oh, let's not reveal ourselves to the mundane population. They'll be constantly begging us for instantaneous cures from diseases, and we can't have that. What's this? Giants attacking tourists? Wizard terrorists? Instead of solving the problem, we'll just wipe the memories of all the witnesses. Never mind the fact that it is our memories that define who we are. And when we have to deal with mundane government officials, we'll treat 'em as inferiors and casually intimidate them. -------------------- Note: Significant plot details follow. Not only is Harry Potter revealed as Arancaytar, the identity of Tom "Voldemort" Riddle is also revealed. Note that no matter how many times you try to kill him, Riddle always returns. Voldemort... LIVES! "Rule of thumb, Potter. You can't kill the Messiah." Significant plot details end here. Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Wonder no more. At least, wonder no more if you're a dirty, dirty pirate. Though I like the theory that we came up with in the lab yesterday: Harry and the gang track down and murder Ralph Fiennes, and Voldemort disappears in a cloud of smoke. -------------------- Borrow money from pessimists—they don't expect it back. - Steven Wright Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

I think Salmon's on the right track. Picture the following: a planet which orbits too close to its sun. All the world's well-off and powerful dwell in underground bunkers. The mouth breathers, those with body odour problems, people who talk in theatres, and Facebook users are all banished to the surface, where they are doomed to die of cancer or dehydration. But the scientists of the surface were not idle. With the aid of the engimatic natives (which, incidently, have two elbows on each arm), they erected a shield to protect the planet from the scorching rays of the sun (incidently, the shield glows green). They also have recruited you, intrepid adventurer! With your trusty parasol, you are destined to storm the underground bunkers, hoping to seize freedom for your nation. Or, you know, just some high SPF sunscreen. The game will be pretty open-ended that way. -------------------- Smarts is the most exclusive disco in town. Everyone welcome. The time works for me (the Saturday), though I'm probably going to do something proof-of-concept-ish. Is beta-testing going to be that much of a problem. Each designer could probably beta-test one or maybe two other scenarios in the three days (they will be short), and I'm sure there'll be non-designers wanting to beta-test too. EDIT: I don't think the use of 'neither' makes it a double negative. -------------------- "Shalom, y'all."
