Tried searching but for some reason the forums have been acting funky today not sure what the cause is..

Anyways this is sort of a question for Jeff but I doubt I'll get a response so I'm also asking all you forum geeks. :P

Has there ever been any thoughts around here of Jeff doing a sci-fi game in the history of Spidweb or in the future perhaps? Geneforge touched on some aspects of it a little but it was still mostly magical / fantasy based.

Mostly gearing towards space theme sci fi rpg. It's different of course from the rest of Jeff's games and probably way out of his plans but I was just curious.

The idea intrigues me a bit is all.

One of Jeff's articles mentioned that he originally wanted to make Geneforge a pure sci-fi RPG, but he didn't think it would sell if he didn't include fantasy elements.

I suppose now's as good a time as any to release a scifi game with some fantasy elements.

Geneforge did very well, especially with the fantasy stuff. Jeff should be proud.

Who you calling a forum geek?

Sara, you have a forum. You're a forum geek by definition.

The way the definition of "geek" runs through my head, it is a bad thing to say.

I think you mean "nerd". Since, that is what I am.

Anyway, well Jeff's games are going to turn out the way he makes them. And you can't change that :P .

The latter carries the negative connotation, not the former, I was informed.

Drakemoore:

If you are looking for a great oldschool Sci-Fi RPG you might try the Escape Velocity trilogy by Ambrosia software.

EV 1
EV: Override (my fav but if ya buy Nova you can use a mod to turn it into any previous version.)
EV: Nova

These 3 games have awesome stories for each different branch of species. Think of it as a Sci-Fi Nethergate with 5-6 sides instead of 2. Oh and it's in Space :)

The game is Mac or Windows and has a very active community on the forums with mods and addons for the game as well.

I think both have some negative connotations, though depending on context the meaning can differ. I mean, there's a large difference between someone you like or someone you don't like calling you either of the two. :P

I think debating over the terms 'geek' and 'nerd' and their implications reflects poorly upon us as human beings.

Nerd -smart (and gets good grades) but doesn't act very cool

Geek -average intelligence or stupid, and doesn't act very cool.

I am more of a nerd.

Well done. And thank you for figuring out the prime factorisation of Hawk King's age, too; I was struggling with that.

Well, you actually don't really know me.
None of you do (including Tyranicus, who probably wouldn't dispise me if he knew me).

Man, on these boards, it is easy to get off topic.

Anyway, well Geneforge already has some "Sci Fi" stuff as people already said. And there may be more series with some Sci Fi. You just need to wait and read.

Well, I think it goes without saying that everyone posting here has some geeky qualities. Whether we're nerdy or not probably requires further analysis, though I agree it's less of a perjorative. In your case, Iffy, I think we definitely have grounds to consider you a naif.

I am not simple, I have a unique personality. And can be funny sometimes.

You can say that I am stupid, but you will certainly be wrong.

Now, if I was a mod I would lock this.

Out of curiosity, and I think I'll regret it, why would you lock this topic?

Let the record show that discussions of one's own intelligence never, ever end well. Discussions of the semantics of geeks and nerds never end well either, but unlike intelligence discussions they sometimes end neutrally.

—Alorael, who would like to ask everyone to stop baiting Iffy. You know what the result is. It's not particularly amusing and a more satisfactory outcome can be achieved by ignoring occasional lapses into painful inanity. Be the better person, people!

As a corollary*, note that the statement "I am intelligent" effectively renders the speaker fair game for all kinds of mockery in existence.

(*I like to use the word corollary because it allows me to show I am intelligent.**)

(**Oh wait.)

I'll unlock! Creation versus creator, with no one sure exactly who is whom!

—Alorael, who can see a new era dawning on these forums. The age of conspiracies is over, and now only epic battle can determine the fate of the internets and excessive melodrama. Also italics.
