I should have been more specific. I would be disappointed if my kid was not capable of installing cracked software without getting caught.

And true nowadays there are a ton more options of freeware that are actually useful. But when I was in college that was more the exception than the rule.

And also getting cracked software or movies before it's released was fun when I was younger. Though that even applies to today considering I had Harry Potter read 3 days before release. But didn't keep me from buying it of course cause I gotta have the set.

Honestly, I just use the picture section of my MySpace account. It's quicker for me to just upload em there and then link to wherever I need em.

My opinion, as I kinda said in my OP, is that minors should not be held responsible to obey copyright laws.

I think this leniency might also be extended to anyone still in college since typically that is the poorest years of a persons life and when you NEED software the most.

Once a person turns 18 or graduates college they then become a contributing member to society and thus should follow it's laws.

But since our society doesn't recognize minors as having any rights (can't sign contracts, own property, that sort of thing), I don't think they should be forced to obey the same copyright laws.

This will make our children smarter, happier, and not hurt the developers in the least since they don't have any money to begin with. And by allowing this you would foster good will toward the minors and they would be more inclined to support you later in life.

It's cool, I honestly didn't think this would be such a controversial topic but I am not disappointed. Discussing this kind of stuff is intellectually stimulating and I might even go so far as to say...fun :) .

No hard feelings, we all have our own morality line and not everyones grey area is as large as some peoples.

Hmm just read through the Code of Contact.

Minor infraction:
+ Faulty accusation of a member or moderator, including calling for the leaving or banning of a member that is innocent of infraction.

Major Infraction:
+ Any communication that is intended to harass, belittle, humiliate, threaten or cause embarrassment to a fellow member.

I think some people may need a refresh. And if this thread does cross the line of " + Discussion of illegal activities. " then by all means lock the thread. I thought that simply referred explaining how to do illegal activities and such.

So because I would rather discuss the morality surrounding copyright laws as opposed to god or harry potter I am deserving of being banned and having my thread locked?

Heaven forbid free-thinking be allowed. CONFORM CONFORM CONFORM

I like that, and for the record, I haven't downloaded music since Napsters hayday and that was before it was absolute that it's illegal.

Though also since I stopped downloading music I never actually listen to any....could there be a connection....hmmm

Is the reason for that because it's against your morals or because you just don't have the expertise to steal a car easily without getting caught.

You do not possess the right to be entertained.

Moreover, these products have to come from somewhere. Even if you were altruistic enough to legitimately aquire all your products a few years after you stole them (which I doubt), you are still depriving the artists/programmers/etc. of their income five years ago, when they needed it most.
1. I possess the right to be happy. Entertainment makes me happy.
2. I specifically said in my OP that I didn't end up buying EVERY piece of software I used cracked versions of, just the ones I really liked.
3. How could I be depriving a programmer of something I didn't have in the first place? ie money.

Wow Dint...

I wasn't attacking anyone with my post so why the personal flame? All I did was post my opinion.

And I'm not disputing that it's illegal, but so is smoking weed or drinking under-age. Are you saying you never did any of that?

It's part of growing up in my opinion and I would honestly be disappointed if I had a kid that grew up never having the ability to download and install a cracked piece of software.

Now i'm not talking about illegally downloading something maliciously like SSNs for identity theft or anything. I'm talking about downloading cracked game, ripped movies/songs, or even software like windows OS or word.

When I was a teen in college I had pretty much no money. I was living off about 5g a year from my campus job and didn't have parents to rely on.

This didn't make me not want to play games and watch movies and stuff. And I don't think that it's a bad thing that I ripped off anything I could over the net that I couldn't afford in real life.

When I got out of college and got a decent job and had money I ended up buying the stuff I really liked but had only ever had cracked versions of before. And the stuff I didn't buy I certainly had no regrets about "testing".

So I dunno, is downloading cracked stuff really the work of the devil :) .

cough...harry potter...cough

Drakemoore:

If you are looking for a great oldschool Sci-Fi RPG you might try the Escape Velocity trilogy by Ambrosia software.

EV 1
EV: Override (my fav but if ya buy Nova you can use a mod to turn it into any previous version.)
EV: Nova

These 3 games have awesome stories for each different branch of species. Think of it as a Sci-Fi Nethergate with 5-6 sides instead of 2. Oh and it's in Space :)

The game is Mac or Windows and has a very active community on the forums with mods and addons for the game as well.

SUCCESS !!!!!

Underdogs finally loaded the download section for Tomb of the Taskmaker.

Now I just have to figure out how to get Basilisk or some other emulator running.

From what I've read on it I am going to need some MAC ROM file in order to run the emulators. Does anyone know a good place to get one....something like OS 4.5 would be fine.

Thanks :) and it was definately nice finding so many people who enjoyed this game back in the day too.

Tomb of the Taskmaker is the Sequel to Taskmaker.

These are both old school RPGs from around the same era of Nethargate the original.

They are Mac only though so ya need an emulator to run on Windows.

And I don't know abotu yall but the underdogs site won't populate the Taskmaker page....that's where I had been trying to get it before.

Sup everyone,

This is just a shot in the dark but I have been unable to find this game anywhere on the net.

I wanted to see if anyone on these forums had ever tried this game and if they still had access to it.

If ya do I would be eternally grateful if ya could share it with me :) .

Also is there an ETA on Nethargate: Ressurection for Windows?

Nethergate was actually one of the first RPGs I played when I was like 10 years old.

Used it on my old Mac OS 4.5 lol :)

Ive played the demo since then every once in a while but never had the money to pay 30$ for it.

I am doing a lil bit better monetarily now though so I want to finally finish the story line.

And yeah Nethergate 2 does have me excited especially if it has the opposing story line again....I love playing both sides.

I'm trying to order Nethargate so I am going for the Geneforge 4 and Nethargate promotional order.

But it's askin me to order the games on CD.

Is there no way for me to just buy a registration key and download them?

I really don't like CDs as I tend to lose or destroy them.

id assume the flaming sword would have a slight advantage against armor wearing enemies since armor doesnt block fire dam.....but does physical dam.

least no armor they wear blocks fire.

but ive never actually tested this, just thinking logically

you cant learn nether or ??? spells but you can learn Spitit Circle Spells in demo i found out.

but you have to do this from start.

when you start a new game click edit your characters stats.....then delete every stat theyve been givin and add enough to get the first 2-3 levels of spirit circle....you will then be given those spells automatically without having to buy them....and the repel spirit one is nice.

i also notice that you dont have HeartShock which is a very powerful War circle spell you can learn in the demo....its where the crones are....go to the northeat crone room and there is a secret passage in the wall that takes ya to a small room with an alter.

be careful as there are some whights and youll need a war circle skill of 7 to learn it.

man its amazing what i remember of this game from just playing the demo when i was like 10.

but it was like my first rpg i ever played and i lovwed it. i just wish i had the money to buy the full version.
