Sorry, I only took a passing look at the Idiot's page. Good reading, though. Wow, an entire site devoted to everything Evil Overlord related. I'm in heaven... *cough* So, back to A4... A less "Heroes of Avernum save the world" approach might be better; it'd be nice to see Avernum from an outsider's point of view. EDIT: Clarification. -------------------- Wouldn't it be easier if Rentar just used a sunlamp on Erika? Unfortunately, I'm on a computer at school, and thus don't have access to A4. Maybe this helps: I remember getting an error message in A1 like yours. I wasn't able to load Commander Johnston's graphic (very bad to not see someone who gives you a major quest). So what I did was take another graphic, change it so you know it's different, and rename it to the missing graphic. A temporary solution, I know, but at least you'll be able to know who you're missing and your game won't freeze. -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: If an enemy I have just killed has a younger sibling or offspring anywhere, I will find them and have them killed immediately, instead of waiting for them to grow up harboring feelings of vengeance towards me in my old age. What do you mean it's not a typo? What kind of play has six acts? (Calms down and remembers that the world doesn't revolve around Shakespeare). -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will not imprison members of the same party in the same cell block, let alone the same cell. By Zeviz: quote:This has an uncanny resemblance to the EVIL OVERLORD LIST. Now, once I run out of the 300-odd rules for Evil Overlords to quote, I can use this new list. Dikiyoba, I'll have you know that I took Draughts of Doom 101 in my first year of Evil Overlord School. Of course, my display of inepitude could be a mask for me to hide how much I am of a threat. Or is it? Why did I just tell you that? To make you think I'm not much a threat because I tell you how much of a threat I am? Or is it? Mu-ha-ha-ha!!! -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: If my trusted lieutenant tells me my Legions of Terror are losing a battle, I will believe him. Thanks Wonko. Seriously people, these are good BoA ideas. None of them are really long and detailed enough to be the main idea behind A5. I can't really think of any enemy which will take up an entire game. The caves are mostly settled, the Sliths are nice, the Empire is nice, the Vahnatai are overdone, and the demons would suck for a main plot (side-villains are okay, though). They are, however, the perfect length for a scenario or two. I envision A5 to seem like being beaten to death with feathers; who says evil has to be monolithic? -------------------- "HA HA" - Inscription on an obelisk in a dead-end, somewhere in the Avernum Trilogy. Ed, your being horrible by rubbing MarcusL's horribleness into Dikiyoba's face, even though you think being horrible is justified because he was horrible. Just think, you are hurting MarcusL's feelings by saying he is horrible. For someone who appeared out of nowhere to defend you, you aren't taking his feelings into account. (I could have made unfounded accusations, but I'll wait for the mods to confirm my suspicions.) EDIT: Tsk, tsk, MarcusL. I was hoping you would actually read the CoC, unlike your friend. Nope, I'm still going to restrain myself from making unfounded accusations. -------------------- See this lump, roughly between my temple and chin? Yeah, I agree with Alorael and Slartucker. Sometimes you have to take the forums with a grain of salt, sometimes you need the entire shaker. Hmmm... I like the dragon idea. Remember, Athron had kids, and there's still that vengeful dragon from VoDT. By Alorael: quote:You don't even have to make Avernum more repressive. The main problem with a drop-in villain, such as demons, undead, or now the Vahnatai, is that they are seldom developed. Vahnatai as villains had potential: they aren't pure evil, just their schewed honour system lead them to evil acts. Why should demons be treated different? I'm making a small BoA trilogy, and eventually the villains will be demons. And I'll (gasp!) actually be giving each individual demon a character, a purpose for attackng, and 'redeeming' qualities. I'm curious to find out whether they will be seen as more or less evil than before. EDIT: By Ephesos: quote:So says you... (Don't worry, Grah-Hoth won't appear in my scenario). -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will not turn into a snake. It never helps. I remember after finishing the three quests of A1 I sold all my loot, went to Fort Gauntlet, beat up some golems and undead with my bare fists, and returned to the surface. And by the end of A3, every single item I owned was augmented. Hooray for munchkinism! -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will not fly into a rage and kill a messenger who brings me bad news just to illustrate how evil I really am. All this Nephar talk reminded me of something: remember the, ummm, stupid Sliths in A1 & A2? Not the barbarian ones, but the friendly ones that were only good for menial work. I remember something about a large number being born that way. You don't come across any in A3, and I haven't so far in A4? Does anyone know what was behind all that? -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: All naive, busty tavern wenches in my realm will be replaced with surly, world-weary waitresses who will provide no unexpected reinforcement and/or romantic subplot for the hero or his sidekick. The usefulness of efficiency depends on your style. If you're a packrat, or a 'dungeon dabbler', your constant returning to town to sell your items makes the skill redundant. However, if you prefer to blast through the opposition in one fell swoop, and don't like the idea of holding your spellcasters in reserve until they are absolutely needed, efficiency is a very nice skill to have. -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: All bumbling conjurers, clumsy squires, no-talent bards, and cowardly thieves in the land will be preemptively put to death. My foes will surely give up and abandon their quest if they have no source of comic relief. Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Okay, most of what I found has already been posted. I realize this isn't even a beta test, but a few things to consider and a few bugs to squish before you do release it: - People refer to you as adventurers, even if you're playing a singleton. It's a bit more work, but alternate dialog like Kelandon does in Bahs is nice. - Not only did Rita not say anything to me, she attacked me the moment she saw me. - The message box displays every time I enter the smithy, set a SDF to this. - After getting a message that I can't pass the barriers in the mage tower, I can still pass them. - The high wall in Fort Orchid is nice-looking, but could possibly obstruct view (probably not a problem in a friendly town, though). - No quests are listed in my quest list, and I can't seem to advance the plot (could be my fault for a very quick playing, though). On the whole though, it seems it will be a great way to spend an hour or so. Good work! -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will dress in bright and cheery colors, and so throw my enemies into confusion.
