The recent posts feature in a profile uses this index, and has the posts' corresponding numbers saved somewhere. When i deleted the last posts, their keys were reassigned to the posts made immediately afterward (Very Bad Thing in database design, but that's UBB for you). So the recent posts in his profile still point to the old keys, but the keys now point to new topics and posts. It's just a theory. Also, it's just a more elaborate way of saying "Because UBB sucks". -- Another wtf I stumbled over along the way: Have you noticed that the links point to the post directly (ie, the place on the page via the "#" suffix) only if the post is not on the first page? If the post is on the first page, the link points to the top of the page. If it's on any of the following pages, the page will automatically scroll down to the post.
