Heh. True to form, this topic degenerates into a quiz topic. In fact... NO! I feel the inexorable pull. Help me! I'm supposed to be asking about realloc's efficiency, not taking quizzes! Basic Scripting For Complete Beginners, by Kelandon. Also, you'll find Kelandon's link page here, and Spiderweb's link page here (there's a lot of overlap). Additionally, once you get the hang of it, don't leave home without the Script Reference Guide. Finally, if you have any more questions, direct them to the Blades of Avernum Editor forum, where a host of pathologically helpful people will attack you with answers. -------------------- (By the way, it looks like someone messed around with the editing on the Reference.) Heh. We had a game called 'Raptors'. One person started out as a Raptor, and every time they 'attacked' someone else, they became a Raptor too. The teachers deemed the game too violent and told us not to play it. So we started playing a game called 'Vampires'. Same rules, but instead of jumping off the jungle gym roof and kicking people, we just stumbled around going "Garghhhhhh..." Good times. -------------------- Rrraaarrr... I mean... gaaaarghhh... That's not the half of it. Just wait until you find the Geneforge easter egg in the Imperial Spire. You can only find it by casting X's Anvil scroll on Garzahd. -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will explain to my guards that most people have their eyes in the front of their heads and thus while searching for someone it makes little sense to draw a weapon and slowly back down the hallway. Prepare to be swamped with replies. When I'm not experimenting on BoA, I always make 4 customs: a Nephil archer with some sword skill, a Slith pole-fighter, a Human priest, and a Human mage. It's probably not the most powerful make, but it has a nice spread of skills, and I'm able to use pretty much every item that comes my way. -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will build machines which simply fail when overloaded, rather than wipe out all nearby henchmen in an explosion or worse yet set off a chain reaction. I will do this by using devices known as "surge protectors". (T-8) Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

(Looks at G4's weather effects.) (Looks at scenario's puny efforts to create fog.) (Weeps.) Really, the hype for this game has made me actually consider playing through the first three, just to get to the point where I can play it. I have yet to hear a bad thing about the beta. -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I reserve the right to execute any henchmen who appear to be a little too intelligent, powerful, or devious. However if I do so, I will not at some subsequent point shout "Why am I surrounded by these incompetent fools?!" (T-10) Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Okay, I can find the activate_hidden_group call in the docs, but I can't find any call to hide a group in the first place. Either I'm not looking hard enough, or I shouldn't work on the scenario that late. Probably both. -------------------- Dan Smith: I've tried (in vi) 'g/[a-z]\n[a-z]/s//_/'... but that doesn't cut it. Any ideas? (I take it that it may be a two-pass sort of solution). Larry Wall: In the first pass, install perl. Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

By Jewels: quote:What? He's one of mine? Report to me this instant, my Legionnaire of Terror! -------------------- The human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers. - Cliff Clavin (Cheers) Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |
