Thanks for the alert. And I just realised I missed my chance to grab account number 7777 (by about two weeks.) I kind of figured Tyran would grab it to add to his horde of accounts. -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. Frostbite: Get It While It's...... Hot? quote:If that's the general consent then I'll go along with it. The reason I brought it up is because it occurred to me just how much content one could squeeze in 10 large towns, especially if one altered terrains using scripts. The prospect just seemed to go against the spirit of a Short Scenario Contest. -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. Frostbite: Get It While It's...... Hot? Multiple small towns in one big town seems legitimate in some circumstances, but not in other. For example, Keilan in Dilecia or that city in Rats Aplenty both have "Upstairs" where there are several small rooms in one large town. This seems fair to me. But combining the Dwarf Mine where Hypothetical Scenario begins, with the Wicked Wizard's Tower where the end-game battle takes place (two towns that wouldn't logically be together) wouldn't be fair, and should be counted as two towns. -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. Question: Would combining towns to stay under the 10 town limit be OK? For example one could fit four unrelated small towns in one large town. Heck, by using scripts to redraw terrain you could theoretically do a lot more than that. I don't see this being a problem, and don't plan to do it myself, I was just wondering what we would do if somebody showed up with a thirty town scenario crammed into 10 towns. -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. The only way I can think of would be to take away all the default spells and replace them with custom ones. After that it would be fairly easy to keep track of adding an SDF counter in the spell's code. Any other damage would be assumed to be done with melee. I'm not sure what you could do from there to actually give resistances to the monsters. You could have entire sets of monsters (Regular Bandit, Fire-res bandit, Ice-res etc.) and replace them appropriately. Or you could give them element resistance armor (isn't one of those calls broken? That'd be critical here, but I don't have the appendices on this comp.) Also you could give hardiness for melee res, or Resistance stat for general element resistance (which wouldn't be specific to one element, so is probably a bad idea.) The more I think about it the less practical it seems. Custom spells seems the only good way, maybe somebody else will think of something. -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. You'll just have to imagine my usual contributions (gloating and hyping) since I couldn't make this one. Exile 3 was the first Spiderweb game I played, and the only of the Exile Trilogy that I could tolerate. It was what got me hooked on RPG's, I've played it countless times. I pretty much exhausted all of E3's replayability, so now I get caught up on old BoE scens whenever I need my Exile fix. So yeah, play BoX. -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. New idea: How about if when you select "Load Different Town" or "Load Different Outdoor Section" it actually brought up a menu with a list of every town/outdor number followed by its name? Town numbers are easy enough to remember on small projects, but outdoors are hard to keep track of without a list, and when opening up other people's scenarios its a pain to find stuff. -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. I won't be able to make it. I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow, and even though I'll probably have internet access at times, I won't have AIM. I would like the ability to somehow set what scripts terrain scripts start out with, instead of it always just being dummy, and be able to define what value was in each memory cell. And along the same line, it would be nice to have the same thing for creatures. So for example, you'd select "Set custom creature Script" Select abilnpc, memory cell 1 to 1; and memory cell 4 to 5. Then every creature you placed would run script abilnpc with those memory cells already set. You wouldn't have to be constantly opening up creatures' scripts and setting memory cells. -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. Frostbite: Get It While It's...... Hot? So what are everybody's thoughts on deadlines? I personally don't mind when it is, but if there are people who want to participate who have particularly busy months coming up then when the contest takes place could be important. -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. I think Dahak's idea is good in theory, but don't think it would be practical. It could result in some interesting scenario series, but three scenarios is a lot of work. I wouldn't predict a great turnout. What are the details for the 1/10 contest? 1 outdoors 10 towns? -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. Frostbite: Get It While It's...... Hot? After a conversation with Ephesos, and much deliberation, I've decided to withdraw my support for the Parody contest (That was a quick flip-flop.) I'd like to see another pearl contest, and was thinking somewhere along the lines of one month and a max of five towns. Hopefully someone can top Kill Self Win Prize, awful big shoes to fill. -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. Frostbite: Get It While It's...... Hot? Well I can think of three possible outcomes: 1. Nobody takes interest and it is a failure. 2. People like the idea and there are plenty of entries, we all laugh and appreciate good jokes / criticism. Very nice. 3. People make plenty of entries, the result is deep splits and hard feelings among the community's designing community. People depart in anger; bringing the axe down on Blades' neck even sooner than previously forecasted. Massive failure. :P I'd say lets go for it if nothing else is suggested. I'd like to suggest extending it to just general parody, where you wouldn't be limited to mocking blades scens, and could also mock other literature. -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind.
