The orb can't be taken to other scenarios, I believe, since it runs a state when used (I believe Kel himself was the one that suggested this become common practice to prevent just that.) That potion that gives flight is sufficient to break anything else you feel like.

The Eternal Vigil (which is undergoing a title change) will be complete sometime in the next couple months. I originally thought January, because I counted on getting a lot done over Christmas break. Turns out I'll be on vacation, so that pushes the date back a while. Screenshots on my website, though it hasn't been updated in a while and I haven't revealed anything about the plot.

I think the only way to learn spells from the spell books in Shayder is to join the Anama legitimately.

Robbing the Anama will get you chucked from the Church if you're a member, and Shayder (and all of Bigail?) will be mad at you for the rest of the game.

I always loved dual mithral broadswords on one fighter and beastslayer/alien blade/wyrmslayer on the other. Magic greatswords are very powerful also, as are dual magic waveblades. Both can be bought. If you have high assassination then dual is best since it gives you two chances to assassinate. Otherwise just use whatever has the highest damage.

Void and short appear in the appendix to tell you what type of call it is. You never actually put short call() or void call().

Fix line 11 so it reads enable_add_chars(0);

What *i's suggestion seems to come down to is the 3D editor, dialog editor, and an Averscript editor all combined in one package. We have two of the three, and an Averscript editor would just be a more extensive version of the dialog editor (says the person with no programming experience.) Even if they all remained seperate programs, at least its a start.

Another gaping problem- the BoA editor doesn't even come with the game! I have to wonder how many BoE designers opened up the editor on a whim, and next thing they knew found themselves designing the next epic (OK maybe not an epic, but you get the picture.) Nobody goes online and downloads a 5 meg file on a whim- and this doesn't even factor in the hassle of discovering how crappy the default editor is, subsequently downloading the 3D editor, learning to script, the list goes on and on. Jeff should include the 3D editor in the download, or if this could lead to problems, the default editor.

Disappointing. Not surprising at all, but still disappointing.

That said, BoA has more serious issues than bugs.

I know for certain you can learn it in Shayder if you join the Anama, and seem to remember you can learn a high level priest spell from a group of priests in the mountains around Sharamik (Avatar? Cloud of Blades? Divine Thud maybe?)

The last stone circle is death arrows, but the other suggestions seem likely enough.

Well for my first scenario (Dilecia) I started with my first NPC town, then worked from there. Unfortunately I didn't have any idea of where I was going with things, so I wound up with the entire plot presented in the last couple minutes of the scenario almost as an afterthought (whoops, though I did do my best to fix this during the beta.) Plus I had to axe a few towns that I realised were completely pointless.

My second time around I started from the beginning and moved from there, this time with a general outline in mind but nothing set in stone (which has worked much better as opposed to going in with absolutely no idea what I wanted, and no idea what I was even doing with the editor). Now 20 towns in, I look back and am fairly pleased with my earlier towns. Though I'll be redoing the first two, the introduction sucked, and I'll be rewriting and editing dialog to comply with new plot twists. I think this is unavoidable. I personally can't stand to just write everything out and then design it, and an unfortunate side effect of leaving yourself lots of leeway is that early towns, when you don't have a good idea of what you want the finished product to be, can look a little bit out of place in hindsight.

Wow, that was almost incoherent. I really need to get some sleep, staying up late studying for math (yes, 10:00 is late) and then trying to design/post is a bad idea.

The sreenshots look good, though I'd suggest something to fill up some of that empty space(rocks, stalagmites, boulders.) Then again my own towns aren't perfect by any stretch.

Oh, and I really like that wizard color edit and the golem edit. I'll probably use them if you have no objections (and if the intended characters don't get axed.)

Nioca: Technically he's tied; The Cave of No Return is just as long (though most people would drop the 'T') And I'm sure there's a BoE scen with a longer name, though none come to mind.

I'll send you my level 61 party. I've beaten every scenario with it including Canopy and Bahs. The party is a bit unbalanced, since it features 3 warriors and 1 mage/priest, but it gets by since one of those warriors now uses Adlerauge for bow support.

Edit: Good point Tyran, the one I sent is for PC. Hopefully that will be useful to you.

For Judges in Blades of Avernum

Judge A (assigned) - 8.5/10
Judge B (assigned) - 8.5/10
Judge C (assigned) - 8.5/10
Judge D (not assigned) -7.5/10 (convert 7.5 to 3.8 out of 5)

Total possible = 35
Earned = 29.3
8.37

I was under the impression that this was pretty much what *i was saying, but with 40% not 50.

Judge A (assigned) - 8.5/10
Judge B (assigned) - 8.5/10
Judge C (assigned) - 8.5/10
Judge D (not assigned) -7.5/10
Total = ((7.5 * .40) + 8.5 + 8.5 + 8.5) / 3.4
= 8.38

If the original system really was that the assigned judges total counted for 60 percent, and the unassigned total counted for 40, then it definitely needs to be changed. But I think that the above was what *i intended.

I'm not terribly concerned about how preliminary judging is handled, scenarios are so evenly matched that I'd be surprised if more than 3 scenarios were eliminated.

(Now that I have downloaded Java...) Very nice utility, Niemand. I don't think I'll personally get much use out of it (though I do like that it cuts you off at 255 characters), but new designers less familiar with BoA's dialog system would find it useful. I know I'd have been thankful for it when I first started.

When I was making the changes for 1.0.1 I added the debug call to check things. Unfortunately I didn't take it out when I put it on my website. A week or so later, Tyran brought it to my attention and I changed it. If you originally downloaded it during those two weeks you got the version with the debug call, which wouldn't be a big deal except that some versions of BoA don't recognize the call and don't load the scenario file properly. If you download the new version and start over it'll work fine, sorry for the inconvenience.

The contest is four days from now, are these all the judges we're going to have? It would actually be possible for the Finals to have only 3 judges if we don't get some more volunteers soon.

Ash created the contest, TM posted the rules, accepted and posted entrants, and posted the results. Drakey was the mediator and listened to the judges to get their consensus. (Because both Ash and TM had entries)

I'd say TM and Ash were the admins.

It would be possible; I would go about doing it pretty much the way you just outlined. Doesn't Bahs do something like this? When Phaedra dies you can bring her body back and heal her I. It's been a while, and I don't really feel like checking, but I'm fairly sure that's how it worked.

Musical themes and inspiration... in Blades of Avernum

Led Zeppelin is a regular in my play list, I've been listening to it since Dilecia. For TEV I've started listening to Audioslave, and Jimi Hendrix. Also, classical music for my Music Appreciation course has reared its generally ugly head. I've actually enjoyed Chopin, and how can I talk about Blades and classic music without mentioning Rhapsody in Blue?
