That's indeed very strange... There is not even one link to Spiderweb for as far as I can see, and they only have a Windows version up there. Sounds suspicious to me... -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Give us your drek! I've taken it for a spin, and I'm not very satisfied. Of course, it still is an emulator and I can't possibly alocate all resources for it to use. Still, though, it didn't run the actual "game" part of Starwars Battlefron 2, and FSX it couldn't render the actual 3D environment. Now, I know FSX is a demanding game, but it's still disappointing. it did eventually run Trackmania nations. Still, though, I don't think I will eventually use it as an alternative for rebooting into Windows using BootCamp. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. I have been for long using emulators to run Windows XP inside Mac OS X. There are various solutions, some free, some not. I just noticed that parallels desktop for Mac 3.0, which is payware, has finally been released. This version enables 3D support, meaning you can play all your Windows games that require Direct X or OpenGL right there in Mac OS X without having to reboot into Windows (granted you use BootCamp). I'm quite excioted about this development, and I was wondering what you guys think of it. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Yay for double posts, but I found it necessary in this case. I would like to ask if there are any Mac users that have the time to betatest WtRM, and who feel like doing it. There have turned up some problems, that I suspect are Windows only. The reason I suspect this, is that both Grail and IFM are Windows users, and I, being a Mac user, don't have these problems. To make sure that they don't appear with Mac users other than myself, I would like to ask any mac user with some experience, who may know what causes, if he feels like, and has the time, to help betatesting BoA. As always, give me: - The name you wish to go under in the readme file of WtRM; - your email; - prior experience. No OS required, as I only have use for Macs at this moment. I would really appreciate any help. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Give us your drek! Excalibur: For as far as I can see, saying you sent the report is very common. What is not common and largely not appreciated, is to tell what bugs and such you encountered or that you are stuck at some point and want help. EDIT: IFM, thanks! :) [ Saturday, June 09, 2007 10:52: Message edited by: Thralni ] -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. The Mac equivalent of MS office used to be Appleworks, but it's now "iWork". I use MS Office, but I think I'll switch over to NeoOfffice, which generally is OpenOffice.org but with a nice GUI. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. I play Avernum (and am in love with them), for a few reasons: - I absolutely love the graphics: this gives it a precious old-school feel I extremely like. It makes me more involved in the game. Though it may sounds strange, I generally feel less involved in games with graphics that are extremely good; - I like the story and world; - It is turned based (which I really like). And that's about it, though I feel I'm sort of repeating what others said. In all honesty, I use these arguments because of a lack of being able to really say what I think of it, as I love Avernum in such a manner that I can't really find the right words. It must be something personal that makes me like it... Ya know, like a very good song absorbes you? It's a bit like that. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Give us your drek! It's only later I discovered documenting every single SDF and such is a must. When I first started coding for BoA, I didn't document anything. When I probably was about a quarter into WtRM (that expression sounds really odd... Is it correct English?), I started documenting SDFs and other stuff. In TNS, I document every tiny detail; I learned my lesson. So, if I had read this article before I started coding for BoA, it would have spared me some time and hassle. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. I will be playing Fould Hordes as soon as I can... It's exactly because I never heard of the designer that I want to play it. Extra unkown scenarios are ever so delightfull. But oh god... It's a Vahnatai scenario it seems... From the "vital background" file: quote:*sigh* EDIT: How nice, my scenario is rated a "3.8" on the scenario table, but it has no user reviews. How did it earn that mark, then? No diagonals isn't such an enormous hassle. I haven't ever used diagonal movement with the keypad (I always used the mouse) and I'm still here, running along through scenarios. Still though, not having to use the mouse, diagonals or not, would be a blessing. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. No! God, Khoth, you can't mean this... It's just two second ago I took the trouble to make an icon and put it up on my website for other people to enjoy it. Don't take it the wrong way, I'm pleased to no end with this carbonized copy, it's just that I wasted my time on that icon, with which I'm not quite happy... Oh well. EDIT: Og hod, I see others made one as well... Come on Thralni, read... That's what I had been asking myself for some time too: "Tactics? I thought I was actually continously hacking through god knows how many monsters", until I realised that that was not true. i was acting in a way I was thinking about what my next step in combat would be. Though it's not exactly tactics, despite from the "get rid of the mage as soon as possible" tactic and more of such things, it is thinking about ways to defeat the enemy. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. No. The reason I like Avernum as much as I do, is for how it is now. Though it could have more strategy, I wouldn't like to see it turned into a second rate Oblivion. This would spoil all the fun for me. Sure, it has it's benefits and it might be more interesting, but look at it this way: Does Jeff have the means to make such a game? I don't think so. I don't know how many people worked on Oblivion, but it would have been more than one. So obviously, i don't think that has to be the solution. However, Jeff could make a bigger variety for monsters in terms of attacking. It's now sort of standard: ranged or melee, and if it's ranged it's either a spell or archery. I agree making more variety in this is sort of difficul. What one could try though, is to make the player think of more forms of attacking his opponent, by making the opponent use different kinds of strategies. Maybe make it dependent on the surroundings the batlle takes place in. There aree a lot of ways to improve on combat, in my opinion.
