I've a neighbor that didn't go offline from WoW for several months. I'm not sure how she coped with eating, defecating, sleeping, etc, but I suspect that her husband took over at times. What really sucked about that situation was that they had farm animals that had to be cared for. Luckily in a small community there are folks that will feed someone's cows and horses because it needs doing, and don't mind the fluttering of a curtain as the crazed WoW addict turns their attention back to the monitor god. The husband eventually got tired of it and shot the computer and monitor. Several days out of doors reminded the lady that having atrophied muscles and starving livestock was not a good way of life. That would be reason #1 to not have high speed internet when lacking a "go to the office" type of job. Edit - Never played it myself. Dialup... ;) [ Thursday, August 31, 2006 19:11: Message edited by: Jumpin' Salmon ] -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Originally scrawled by Aran: quote:So? Educate me. Why is 200Mb a small database? Why are only 3 of them a limitation? Under what circumstances? I realize you are running multiple off-shore shell companies in the hopes of disguising your long range world domination plans (Sorry Dintiradan), but I have far small dreams (domination of Canada, again, sorry Dintiradan). This deal seems pretty sweet for me, but your cruel jabs have rendered me leery. Explain yourself. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I rate stareye's judging methodology with 5 snowy plovers. (Extra point for fawning support of Bain ;) ) Drakefyre's method is awarded 2.5 rusty nails in an old tin can. By popular choice, as well as sheer momentum, stareye wins the 8th People's Choice Awards. Drakefyre now must straighten out his nails and pound them into the snowy plovers and cook dinner. (Please, someone get me coffee!!!) -------------------- WWtNSD? Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

The identity and temporary mailing addresses of the judges should be available prior to judging if there is to be any reliable method of bribery. Just sayin', ya know? -------------------- WWtNSD? Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

If I do get the honor of judging, I would like there to be be several criteria for scoring a scenario. Has this been discussed already? I'm talking about atmosphere, presentation, scripting "wow"s, etc. Typically when grading a multifaceted thing like a scenario, you can assign letter grades across each category, and then let the judge assign a weighting to that scenario. For instance, if scenario X is really well scripted (A) and is flowing logically (B), but the atmosphere and graphics (E) just make you want to stab your eyeballs, the judge could then heavily weight the atmosphere, award an overall C, and explain in their comments how that judgement was reached. The next judge may not care so much about the graphics, and prefers the story is really cool, weighting that more and having it end up as a B. An arbitrator could compile the weighted scores for each scenario (C and B above) and average them, awarding a numerical winner that is based on player/judging preferences. I prefer to think of this as the Complexosimpleton Methodology of Thought Transferance and Complication. Or CMTTC for simplicities sake. -------------------- WWtNSD? Judging solely from the appearance, becoming a parent seems to have softened him up. But hey, he may not prefer that we talk about him on his company message boards. Why not just ruthlessly speculate on Alorael? Anyone have pictures that could be him? :P -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Zones, towns, sections. It seemed to folks in the discussion that what mattered for size was the depth of the story. Empty outdoors was small, while a town that changed 6 times over the course of the scenario was large. That is why we talked about adding together non-dialogue scripts to come up with the number of zones. Also, is Best Utility still a category? I remember some discussion on how to best include things like the 3D Editor and Alint. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I think we pretty much established that the dividing would be based on the total number of outdoor and town scripts, with the magic number being 24.5. Anything over 24.5 would be Large Scenarios. This establishes that duplicate towns are not a factor, but does reward that unique scripts are the difficulty. Example - The Perfect Scenario Outdoor scripts = 4 Town scripts = 17 Total = 21 = Small Scenario. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

It was strongly suggested during the course of todays chat that Grail post the item descriptions here. That way, if say someone saw a melee +100 item they could give some immediate feedback. I believe he was going to do that, after some nonsense with computers and internet and whatnot. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

A beastie has been uncovered in Maine. Two stories below, one with a picture. Is this a new creature, a hybrid, or just some mangy old mutt that died doing something it loved? Link to story Story with picture -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |
