I believe she went to count footsteps in the Lone Ranger National Forest, somewhere in the American Southwest. I would guess she lacks the fortitude to pack a satellite phone and some sort of portable blackberry type device in order to communicate with us. Or, it just may be that life is so consuming for her at the moment that she is unwilling to spend precious free time monitoring our peccadilloes as well. Edit - I changed nothing. Although, it is strange how accurate my forecasting has become. Actually, I could build a church, invite over a few fishing buddies, set up some rituals and create some dogma, and call it a religion. I would then file the correct forms with the state and federal government, and suddenly there is a new congregation of the United Church of Fishermen. It is that easy. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I agree it is difficult, at times, to get beyond the obtuse nature of my posts and discern the true meaning. Zeviz does it all the time, as does Slarty and occasionally Aran. Others either do and don't care to comment, or just don't care enough to ask. Zeviz got it on the nose though. It is an unfortunate byproduct of our society that we have an incredible amount of information, an extremely limited amount of free time, and an overwhelming sense of guilt at failure to faithfully exercise our rights as citizens. Quite a few people don't give a crap, and either vote the party line, their newspaper's editorial recommendations, or according to spouse/parents/church guidance. Some don't vote, actually the majority fail to cast every ballot they are eligible to cast. Your decision to make an informed vote means you do care, and given that remaining aware of all possible information on every possible electoral decision is improbable, you could be best served to research only a few of the issues/candidates independently. Then, compare your choices to those made by major voting blocs to see if you are actually voting along with others. At that point you can just vote their line, and feel comfortable that your particular governmental needs and priorities will be met. It's tough though. Here we have all the representative elections plus a bunch of ballot initiatives. Those are the worst, as they are usually sponsored by big business from out of state, and are written so as to appear that small taxpayers (like me) will benefit. In reality they just benefit business, reduce income to the state, and leave Oregon with fewer teachers, undereducated students (and graduates), and no law enforcement. So good luck, never get so dejected that you stop voting or caring, and discuss your findings with friends and co-workers. Engaging people in political discussions can be just as rewarding as riding a toboggan through a hilly cemetary. :) -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

quote:FYI - I've yet to hear of any nefarious movement to kidnap heterosexuals and force them to become gay. Just in case you were worrying about it; because given your attitude, and deep seated need to encourage heterosexuality, I felt you would be able to sleep better at night knowing that it is only homosexuals that are needlessly persecuted by legions of well meaning scripture cultists. I eagerly await hearing from you that your encouragement to those wishing to explore the joys of heterosexuality extends across the brotherhood of man and embraces all those among the members of this forum who are deeply comfortable in their sexuality and feel no need to explore relations with a different sex, whichever might be their current fruit of choice. :) -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

This is quickly becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. We claim to not want to appear on the "Top 10," which influences less posting. People like me end up posting at lower rates and yet still appear on the blasted list, making me want to just scrap this post before it ever hits the message boards. Pick one, or the other. We can have a vibrant message board filled with interesting threads, where post counts aren't counted and people don't care. Or we could have a tired old space, which is occasionally visited to check out what old man Vogel has turned out lately, and how well his sycophantal followers are dealing with the latest in a history of disappointments. Now I wish I didn't care, so that I could save you the time of reading this post by deleting it. But that is the old me. The new me wants you to have to read at least 300 of my posts every month. Wouldn't that be fun... -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I too have nothing constructive to add, other than I had hoped Nikki was looking for a graphic that only depicted the bottom half of a male child. That would have been neat. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

You want good unbiased information on political candidates? <Unstructured evil laugh> Your best bet is to follow these steps. 1. Find out who is running for each office. 2. Find out in which town/city they reside. 3. Read editorials from each towns newspaper. 4. Visit a selection of bars or coffee shops and ask questions/listen. 5. Notice that it is February and you totally missed the election. Hey, no one said having an informed electorate was going to be easy. :P -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I've read all of the good books, few of the excellent books, and a handful of the crap books. Neverwhere falls toward to the top of the heap. Cholera, I've yet to get to that one as it seems too intellectual for me. Dragonlance serves only to help me recall the Dark Sun series of games. They were fun. -------------------- Synergy, et al - "I don't get it." Argon - "I'm at a loss for words..." Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I had similar problems with UE until I did something odd. Remove any stray files from the BoA directory or the data directory that could possibly be duplicates of those included with the scenario. I was getting an error every time I opened DwtD, but it disappeared when I cleaned up the directory. Actually, since I cleaned them up, I've had NO UE errors. Edit - What I'm getting at is that Windows has trouble when it is presented with two identically named files from which to choose. Thus the UE. Eliminate its confusion. Hope that helps... For me the single biggest advantage that Geneforge has is the Leadership skill. I know that E had reputation, but I was never so sure on how that affected dialogue, other than plot advancers. It would be nice to have something of that nature added into BoA, although at this point I have serious doubts about that ever happening. Zorro, you may want to try Druids of Krell, by Ephesos, for a slightly different BoA experience. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Recently I've been reading several books at once. It makes for interesting storylines. Anyhow, I've been on a $1 at Powells kick, so a lot of Freddy Pohl. Also some LeGuin, but not because she is a PDXer. I did her Earthsea, which left me underwhelmed. Disappointing, considering that I really liked it when I was 13. Next is Left Hand, then Lathe, but currently Stephen Fry's Making History. -------------------- Synergy, et al - "I don't get it." Argon - "I'm at a loss for words..."
