My eldest went to see it. local paper report

You can see the write-up, but miss seeing the stunning photo of him in a Darth Maul mask which was in the paper version.

Fizzy drinks used to be "pop" here (UK) but that name now sounds curiously dated.
Soft drinks would be anything flat or gassy that isn't hot, water, or alcoholic.
Soda is soda water: basically carbonated water.
Ice cream soda can have any fizzy drink in it...

Where are you, then?
I studied Engineering, with a mechanical sort of specialisation, and am now doing nothing like it.
Engineering has a sort of positivist materialist optimistic mindset assumed in the philosophy that I find hard to support, although I could do the academic side. It's useful to have some idea of the philosophical basis of a subject before studying it, though I know that's a fairly odd kind of career advice.
