You would almost certainly change your tune if you examined the habits of a few of those I spend time with. I'm quite a mild offender compared to some. At least I have the sense to keep it to the weekends, for the most part.

Partial paralysis? It's a rare occurrence that I move a limb as it is. As long as I could still raise a bottle to my lips, I could deal with it. ;)

I never liked alcohol. Brownies were always so much tastier, and they didn't make me feel hot and dizzy.

Brownies and Americans... You ought to try some delicous, chewy salmiac. You'd never go back to any tedious brownie then.

Agreed. I could really use one of the extra-special variety about now.

I'll drink alcohol occasionally, if someone else is buying. In general, I don't think it tastes good enough and is too expensive to drink much.

That said, I'd never let myself get drunk. I know too many people who messed themselves up by becoming alcoholics.

Getting drunk is higly overrated.

I'm currently cultivating some moss on my teeth. It's tasty, so that makes the cultivation a little more troublesome.

Clearly, you have never had a can of Milwaukee's Best Light. :P

tBSC I'll agree that getting drunk just for the sake of experiencing the drunken state is overrated. However, when used as a social lubricant at a party or a bar, it can greatly enhance the social experience by breaking down boundaries and inhibitions.

Most people are far too self-conscious and self-controlled, with little insecurities and fears that can occasionally make social situations awkward. The beauty of alcohol is that it tends to strip away most of the sources of awkwardness, allowing everyone to interact in a more open and carefree manner.

And I'm not even going to discuss the lovely effects alcohol can have on women. :P

Well, there you go. I have no use for alcohol, because I'm already far too unreserved. :P

Edit: No, I haven't tasted that particular brand. But then, we have more brands of our own than we know what to do with anyway.

Salmiakki is very good (though I've only ever tried the Dutch version). Unfortunately too much of it is very laxative: maybe Finns have chronically misfunctioning bowels?

Maybe you mean 'inconspicuous'? I know I'm a bit late on posting that, but I'll try to keep up.

On topic a bit more: I'm too young to drink, so I'll stay out of this part of the conversation until it steers to more age appropriate (for me) topics.

I'm old anough to drink, but not old enough to drive. This makes me sad, because I would much rather be able to drive than drink (which I don't do anyway, so it's useless).

There is a very foolish compromise of doing both, however. But, as they say in Australia on TV, if you drink then drive, your a bloody idiot.

Which I completely agree on.

Hey, it's only immoral if the women you drug happen to be taken. And even then, it could just be that you're just in the act of 'liberating' them.

I'm interested if this would be impling that women look more lovely after a guy's had a few drinks, or that it is lovely for a women to lose her inhibitions and common sense.

If the former, many rude awakenings I foresee, if the latter, true love will be harder to find.

Rather a coincidence that I should happen on this thread again, this time suffering from a bit of a headache and a somewhat lighter wallet. :P

My rogueishness is mostly a genuine personality trait, but at times I will make an effort to artificially enhance it. I've got a bit of an image and a reputation to live up to, understand. It simply wouldn't do to look like an incorrigible rake and then live out my life as a perfect angel. That said, I pride myself on having a heart of gold under the ever-present leering countenance and wanton perversion.

For example, I consider it a perfectly reasonable practice to liquor up a girl in the interests of making her more receptive, but only a true scoundrel will add rufies or other drugs of the sort to the mix. I am hardly supportive of the actions of such gentlemen.

t Ash don't bother going out your way to get a "Beast" Light. I was merely holding it up as an example of an extremely cheap beer that isn't completely undrinkable. :P

t Aran pretty much everyone who believes in a Hell already believes I'm well on my way there based on my religious beliefs alone. As I see it, I might as well go all out with the immorality and save everyone a tough decision on Judgement Day. Considerate, aren't I?

t WM glad to know there's at least one other person that sees things my way.

t Jewels of course I have noticed the first phenomenon, but I've found it doesn't affect me too strongly. At any rate, I haven't yet had any rude awakening of the sort.

The second phenomenon is of course the one I was alluding to, although you've phrased it with a rather negative tone. Drinking for me is often a very liberating experience, as all the little annoying complexes and insecurities fade away and I feel simple and free, and more like the man I've always wanted to be. I'd like to think that it works in much the same way with women.

I find the same effect can be achieved in a less unhealthy way by socialising mainly with people I despise. Since I don't care about the impression I make on them, there's no reason to watch what I say.

However, I never plan to drink alchohol. It usually causes things that clear the road to jail for one thing, and the lightened feeling would lead to more depression after it wears off. This is from what I've heard, of course though, so that's just MHO.

Beer and wine both have health benefits as well as social benefits. Alcohol doesn't "usually" lead to problems, as most people can drink reasonable quantities, and it's only depressing when you find yourself nursing an excruciating hangover.

—Alorael, who avoids large quantities of alcohol socially because while the feeling of liberation is pleasant, having to deal with what he said afterwards often is not. Thuryl's advice of only dealing with people you despise could solve that, but then, as he points out, you don't need the alcohol in the first place.

See, I prefer to get OTHERS drunk. I don't get drunk myself. That way, I get to actually watch the ensuing hilarity instead of waking up with your pants mysteriously stolen (yes, that actually happened to some girl I know. I wasn't present though).

Well, drinking to forget your problems never works. I've found that drinking tends to amplify my emotions in general, and that whichever emotion happens to be predominating while I'm drinking quickly comes to the fore.

If you're feeling emotionally neutral, alcohol is probably going to push you in one direction or the other. If you drink while in an angry mood, you'll be liable to fly off the handle and harm yourself or others. If you're with a girl and feeling horny, you're liable to start making overt advances on her once you've got a bit in you. If you're depressed about something or the other, you'll think about it even more once you're drunk, and you'll just be miserable. If you're the excitable type, you might become ridiculously hyper after you've had a few drinks. And if you're in a good mood while drinking, you're likely to have a grand time.

Alcohol gets a bad rap because there are too many angry, depressed, sex-starved, and unstable people that drink too much and proceed to run amok. Some people just ought not to drink at all. For those of us that aren't afflicted by emotional unrest, however, alcohol can make for many a great night.
