Congrats on your 900+ posts!

I feel so small and tiny and unconsequent.
What is the equivalent of you know what envy for post envy?

And I am not even getting into my complete postrate adoration for all of you who have more than 1000 posts.

You are all my heroes.

Keep on the good work.

Keep on spamming, why is spamming bad? You may think so now, but wait until after the world goes to smithereens and all you have left is your ability to spam.

Besides, scientists in small south american countries yet to be named or turned into a pile of dreg have proven that spam make you smarter, stronger, more fertile and better in bed (sleep wise, of course)

Cheers!

I like mana or something like it better than the memorization of individual spells.

Why can I memorize two Magic Missiles and not three if I already memorized the gestures/words for one?

Or is that system basically another way of administering your magical strenght?

Say you have 20 points (call them magical energy if you wish) These are very abstract. They symboliza your experience with magic, the power your body can catalyze as well as as the energy your body is able to expel without collapsing out of sheer exhaustions.

Maybe D&D does something like this. They skip the middle man, you don't have an actual number to symboliza your energy, but this is still evident in the amount of spells you can take and how, the farther you go up in levels, mastering your mind over your body, you can cast better spells, or more of the lower level ones.

Just babbling here.

Cheers!

It seems that as long as the food you eat is balanced, you do exercise and take care of yourself, it doesn't really matter if you're vegetarian or not.
I've never seen any point in insulting either group, those who eat meat because they massacre those poor defenseless animals, and so on; or those who are vegetarians because they are flaky pseudo hippies or whatever.

If either group was bad for our health, really, really, bad then just by sheer inertia it would eventually dissappear (oh, that is so not so!)

For that reason, I eat what I like, smoke too much, drink too much, and probably will die very young. Of course the former diet explains why I have few neurons working and lead an extremely unhealthy life.

Cheers!

(Oh, and vegetarians are indeed sexy, though some of those meat eaters out there. . .)

I find watermelons or other fruits with hard carapaces to be a little on the annoying side when I take them out for a little of the rough and tumble.
Evidently, if I can do without the outside thing and just gooey insides, that's more interesting.

I find it that if you have a frozen part of the insides, while the others are melted (though cooled down) they work wonders.

If I'm gonna do it with a fruit, I stay with pineapple and coconut. The former, because heck, it's hard and has a sting. The second, because of the whole process. Part of the fun of the act is the process of getting there (I mean, of course, about the fruit picking act, clean your thoughts!)
Coconuts grow on palm trees which are usually found in the tropics, usually on the beaches.
What more romance can you ask for?
Climbing the tree. . .
Getting the fruit. . .
Enjoying the sunset by the beach. . .
Drinking the milk of your labours. . .

Sweet.

Well Tristrana, Greece won.

I think that Rooney leaving the match so early was rather horrible.

Am I the only one who thinks that Vassel was rather dissapointing throughout the entire tournament?

I'm a big England fan. . . but if you the catenaccio (spelling?) this is the result you get. Portugal played enormously offensive, but England had the talent and the capacity to do the same had they wished to. One goal is never enough.

I'm hoping for Sweden and Czech Republic because they've been the two teams who've played the best, for me, so far. And Denmark is also nice.

I doubt we'll ever see TV in football guys.
But hope springs eternal.

Edit: As for Beckham. . . I'm gonna get swarmed for saying this. Big time, but. . . maybe he should get his head deeper into what he does (play football) and less on his image. Sick and tired of that. He's a fine player, heck when he plays good he is a phenomenal player. . . but look at Real Madrid. . . What's going on today? Seems this Eurocup is proving what the Champions already proved: good football, team playing, is better than a name on a shirt. Leave the modeling for those who suck at everything in life except being pretty.

Hello!!!

When you go to the vampire's castle, go down to the cave below it. At the SW corner you should find an exit with some barriers.

If you smashed the crystal like the lord told you, there should be an opening.

Yup. If you don't do the crystal thing right you will have a HUGE fight in your hands. There's a way to escape that fight, though.

I think zombies are misunderstood due to their poor table manners and peculiar culinary habits.

Perhaps a sims game with zombies where we get to see how their domestic life is really like and how like us they really are, after all we all come from the same, er, carapace? School, sports, etc.

Or another kind of sim resembling that TV show "queer eye for the straight guy" only that this one instead of being "the straight guy" is "the undead."

Hi!

(this info is paraphrased from the official book of answers, unfortunately, I couldn't remember where they were)

There's a book in the student quarters, in the meditation cells, you have to go through a secret door.

On the Experiment Halls there are a couple.

1) In the NE part of the map search in a room close to the exit out.

2) In the western part of the map, look inside a little room.

Hope this kind of helps.

Thankx for the scenario. Very cool. I enjoyed the fact that we had a few more dungeons/cities to explore.

I had the same problem with the error message that spy.there had.

The way I escaped the cave was by going into fighting mode and just walking. Once the first character reached the flagged square, I was out.

I agree that it would've been nice to return to town. I never got my reward for the ingredients and exploration of the cave since I thought I'd get everything in the end.

But, I reiterate what I mentioned above, very entertaining scenario. Thanks!

How about on the line of simple games something like BattleShip where ships move (or is that done to death)

Or maybe an rpg where you play a bunch of old ladies (something like The Little Old Ladies from Pasadena Evil Fighting Squad of Butt Kicking Sewing Goodness) and you basically do missions for the Vatican/Illuminatti kind of secret society where the head cheese is really Barney and they send you to kick the bazooka out of evil guys like Ambrose Pierce, the secret leader of an order who's only goal is to completely rephrase the entire way we define things where every definition will have the word cheese in them, or the Evil Library GuyGirl (or GirlGuy) who knows where you live, and collects your soul (or aomething) for every book you damage, don't finish, read, or just see. And much more!

Deja Vu. Wow. That was a brilliant game with capital letters and Neon signs pointing to it.

Or maybe you can innovate the stagnant world of adventure games by creating something completely graphic, no typing at all, a new world with outstanding graphics and beautiful connectedness. Of course, this may mean you'll start a trend that will eventually destroy adventure games as we know them with overemphasis on graphics and taken-from-puzzle-books-and-badly-adapted puzzles. But, hey, if your conscience can take it.

PS: Firedrake, your mentioning of the future start on SC2 made me cry. Honest.
Oh Happy Happiness!

Seriously, though. The Interactive Fiction idea proposed earlier is worth your consideration. If you love writing, that's a neat thing to do.

Cool! About time we play the role of someone so misunderstood like goblins and give those pesky adventurers a taste of their own chocolate. While we do a lot of running away and hiding and smart strategic combat (which may be an oxymoron as far as goblins go) (apologies to any goblin lovers out there!)

Hey! Alorael your Spanish is superb! And keep in mind that Spanish is more complicated than English, all those annoying conjugations.
Out of curiosity where did you learn it?
I agree with spy.there (that okay for your name?) in that this addictive. Only time constraints keep me from posting comments everywhere.

BTW, I've noticed some like to give links to their homepages or pages they love, so here's my 2 cents.

http://www.the-underdogs.org/

this one is about old games, abandoware sort of stuff. If you like that sort of thing, it's brilliant. If you have no clue, you may want to check it out. A lot of the greatest games ever made were done in the 80's and early 90's. Many of those companies went out of business, but some awesome people in the net have been collecting them for posterity (the web rules. for so many reasons!)

This other:

http://wurb.com/if/index

It's about Interactive Fiction. It may not be your cup of tea, they are basically text adventures, like a book but you write your actions.
A word to the wise, this is a highly addictive medium and you may lose youself in realities aplenty so much that time and space as we so erroneously interpret will turn upside down worse than an omellete done by a monkey on heat and skribbane.
(which may be a good thing, IMAGE(smile001.gif) )

Cheers!

Ooooh! Bets! Maybe I can create a bunch of different names, and try to manipulate the bets one way or the other and make tons and tons of some kind of currency. Only if they involve money. Maybe they involve beans or something like goats, then I end up with millions of goat and no pocket dimension in which to squeeze them in. Now, boiled cabbages would be nice.

Hmmm. . . boiled cabbages. . .

Scenarios currently being worked on in Blades of Avernum Editor

Hey! I'm thinking about doing one. First time, though. . . But I already have a title (yippey!) "A Dance in Chaos: Livestock Insurrection" It's about Livestock lycanthropes, you know, werechickens, werepigs, werecows, etc. If all goes well it's going to be the first part of a series, which will include, beholders (not eye beasts), clones, planes, gods and, of course, necromancers. If all goes well. . .
Hopefully the first one will be ready in a couple of months.

I had a question:

Is it okay if the scenario takes place in a world other than the one of Avernum? Or is there some unwritten rule that scenarios should be part of that world?

I'm glad too see so many people interested in making scenarios fro BoA. It seems I need to download and register a copy of BoE since there are some many over there.

Cheers!

Hey!

I played Blades of Exile years ago when it first came out, when was that. . . 1999? I played a few of the scenarios, enjoyed them immensely and then I got sidetracked with some real-world silliness and haven't played any more. I've been thinking about registering for that one since I last time I checked there were a bunch of scenarios.

I like BoA so far. But from what I've read the editor seems to have rub some the wrong way. But I hope in the future there will be more adventures. I've tried to use it, but I'm gonna have to wait a bit until the real world gives me more free time.

I've read about The Lyceum and will definitely check it out.

I agree with the distinction between Geneforge and Exile/Avernum. One of my very small complaints about Geneforge (and it is very, very small) is that the storyline wasn't bigger. But that comes mostly from my desire to see more of the Shaper's world. Saying that, though, I enjoyed the choices you could make regarding the different factions (servile or not) and how those choices influenced the game. In the end the game turns out rather solid. It's nice how the "weakness" of size in a way strenghtened the story.

BTW, as a completely out of the blue comment: it's nice to see that games like these have so many supporters. I grew up with text adventures and the early CRPGs (Wizardry, Ultima, et al) and sometimes I shudder when I see that so many of the modern games have too much razzle-dazzle and too little storyline.

Cheers!

It would be nice to see a Lovecraft setting. or for that matter any modern setting. It could with an engine similar to Avernum, I think, better than the Geneforge one. The outdoor areas would still "country" oriented, with forests and the like as well as roads. The cities could look like the cities do in Avernum, but instead of brick walls, concrete walls for some of the buildings. One of the not-so nice things would be the tall buildings, the isometric view in Avernum doesn't lend that well for that one.

There has been some comments in this thread and others about guns.
Maybe this is a minimalistic view, but I see guns just as bows. You still need arrows for them. With guns you use bullets and do about the same amount of damage, with varying ranges depending upon the gun. A possible implementation would be reload aspect. You need to do it and could cost an action point or more.

For transportation, a car could work like the horses. You can travel around with it, but need to get out when you enter the towns, or outside of them (big towns/cities you can travel on the streets as long as they are wide enough)

Instead of having a world which is basically one big lump, you can have a couple of continents, say Europe and North America (though that sounds rather immensely huge now that I think about it)

This lends to bigger city adventures, as cities like New York you can have multiple grids for them (I'm now thinking something along the lines of the huge city in Baldur's Gate 2.)

You could even have magic. Though that's a bit trickier. I have ingrained in my mind the system in the Call of Cthulhu game which make magic difficult to come by and highly ritualistic. Maybe not something that lends too well to the Avernum style game.

Still, it would definitely be a pradigm shift not only from the magic system in the SW games, but from most CRPGs.

There would still be a fair amount of combat, since the SW games tend to have plenty of that. Most of it I guess would end up being against evil cultists and the like. But some of the minor mythos monsters could also be hack and slashed to the gamer's pleasure. The cool thing about the mythos is that it has grown throughout the years with the creations of other people other than HPL.

The big creatures would not be destroyed with force, since it goes against the spirit, but it might be fun to work in finding other ways to do that.

Anyway, I' think I've rambled too much.

Cheers!

Hey!

I've been lurking a bit. Trying to get a taste for what the whole forum scene was like. Felt kinda weird, like some sort of voyeur. Well, no more of that.

Definitely a NOT-hot latino guy.

I've played all of the Siperwed(b) games since Exile 1 on Mac (now on PCs.)
Favorite? Er. . . all. I have a soft spot for Nethergate. In part because it allowed you to play two completely different games in one, the dynamics between the two groups were very different, and I also enjoyed the historic aspect of it.

How about you guys?
