I think I know what must have happened here, so let me take a guess: -You went to Fort Saffron and cleared out the bandits -You exited through a narrow passage that drops you in the Scree Caves -You got Demonslayer and killed the drake ...in that order. I assume that you never talked to the commander of Fort Emerald about the crystal box quest? That's the only way to get the barriers lowered (assuming you have the fixed version where you can't just dispel them). Thus, backtostart wouldn't mess up the plot at all. Just go talk to Advisor Houghton about the crystal box, then talk to Fort Emerald's commander. EDIT: Drat. Beaten by a full four minutes. Did you kill everything and search everything? I'd suggest looking over by the lich... Personally, I prefer the Reduced Shakespeare Company's interpretation of the play... and they raise an excellent question: why don't the idiots just get married via the friar and leave town?! Seriously, I think R & J was a pretty good play, but not as good as Hamlet. Midsummer Night is also pretty fun, but the last time I was near a production of it, it looked like it had been hallucinated via an impressive group of illegal substances. Of course, there's always the possibility that he was killed by an orchard slime... A4 has a few places where semi-important characters can get killed pretty easily. Personally, I remember some farmers north of Formello getting killed by rats when I left a door open for too long. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." quote:After some exhaustive shielding, augmenting, blessing, hasting, and reloading, I managed to save Houghton once. He still dies in a dialogue box, from some slight nick he gets from a blade when the vahnatai enter (also in a dialogue box). So rest assured, there is absolutely nothing you can do, even if you technically do save him. (Not even my level 4 Curing could've done the trick) quote:I believe that is the Castle treasury. So no, it's not really important. EDIT: Agh! Quote tags! Keep looking under the Goblin Caves to the south of Fort Monastery. You need to go to the extreme south of that area, I believe... so far that you're closer to Grindstone than Fort Monastery. And no, you don't need to be registered. [ Wednesday, January 25, 2006 07:42: Message edited by: Ephesos ] -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." No kidding... they only seemed to notice you if you actually went up and hit them. Though in that respect, they're like all the shamblers and shambler-type-things from A1, which never even moved until hit. The A4 shamblers did have some impressive resistances, though... -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. The dialogue is supposed to turn out like that, since after all, nobody really explains the whole testing thing to you, except the paltry exposition granted by the various testing shades. In fact, nobody ever mentions the tests. Ever. Not even in The Castle. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." It's not really a quest, just a bunch of fun things to look for. You didn't expect X's creations to have a purpose, did you? The Xian Coins are rather useful, but if I recall correctly, the Pants are awful. Personally, I loved the Xian Shrub. When you say that you've "won the game", I assume you mean that you've gotten to Rentar's final fortress. Anyway, here are directions to Erika's Ruins: -Go to Rentar's final fortress, but don't go towards the entrance. -Head back south, across those plains that the vahnatai guided you across. -From the southwest corner of that section, you should be able to head straight south and reach the ruins of Erika's Tower. -Watch out for the shambler things... -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." OoC: It's been a while... IC: The demon's laughter faded from the passage, leaving a rough echo in the druid's mind. Sequoia silently walked over to Edith, knowing that Orloki was in full control. We can't give up on her... we can't lose anyone else to Orloki if we want to get out of here alive, much less if we want to slay the beast, he thought, as part of his mind throbbed dully. "Demon, what do you want from us?" Sequoia half-yelled, trying to restrain himself a bit. The earlier sight of the demon's form had yet to leave the druid's memory, and it had stirred up a bit of anger in him. The possessed alchemist replied with another booming laugh. "Foolish one, always so direct! My purposes are known to me alone, and I feel no need to reveal them to my prey." Sequoia could feel sparks leap from his fingers as another cloud of anger welled up in his mind. When it passed, he muttered "Then why have you not simply slain us? You must be afraid of us!" "Silence, mortal! You are tainted as well, so I fail to see the threat in you. You will fall like all the others will, if the mountain does not take you first." Orloki's voice replied. At this comment, Sequoia seethed for a moment. He felt magic pulsing in his veins, and he felt the taint course through his brain. Leave her, she is of no use to you, he thought, slowly losing control again. Better yet, slay her, and force Orloki to flee or show himself! The druid snarled and started reaching for the broken halves of his staff, right before Lisha reached out and pulled him back, shaking him back to reality. "Don't prove him right, Brother," she said, turning him away from Edith. Sequoia stepped back from Edith, fervently clutching his charm to his chest. His mind slowly resolved into clarity again, and in a flash he remembered his actions. He tried to focus his mind away from the taint, but it lingered, a few strands of concentrated evil flowing among his thoughts. In spite of this, he could still feel the mountain's power in him, and where it flowed, the taint was burned away. He could maintain control as long as that power held, and he could probably tap into the mountain again if he needed (though the risk frightened him). So the fiend is afraid of us. That must be it! Why else would he have avoided a direct confrontation? First that cursed suit of armor, he thought, silently cursing Caecus, then that fool Filbert. Now, Edith. And to some degree, myself. His pulse quickened for a moment, as if the mountain's power was surging. He felt the taint weaken a bit, though its continued presence strengthened Sequoia's headache. Slowly, his body and mind returned to normal (at least, as close to normal as the druid was now willing to accept), and he turned to watch Edith. While her eyes retained their demonic appearance, her body appeared to be resisting now. Every so often, she twitched in a way that suggested a bit of struggle, which gave Sequoia a bit of hope. He has underestimated us, and he will pay dearly for it. The fiend must die, so that we may be free again. OoC: As I hopefully conveyed here, I can't do much more of Orloki's interrogation. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead.
