Aimee was always an interesting character... too bad she never reappeared. (Or maybe she did? Conspiracy theory, anyone?) I expect she could've just watched Avernum from another plane. X will live forever. Or until he finishes that anvil-dropping spell... one of the two. And now, for the conspiracy theory: Aimee came back to Avernum sometime shortly before A4, and took Cheeseball with her. Cheeseball, being inclined towards the whole "hunting strange mice and meeting other cats" thing, was thrilled to leave Solberg and his secluded tendencies behind. Solberg, embittered at the loss of his familiar, summoned a demon to try and hunt down Aimee, but the demon regrettably took up residence under Patrick's Tower. </lunacy> -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Hm... an interesting application of this would be a scenario in which the outdoors does change rapidly based on time. In fact, Za-Khazi would've been more interesting if cavequakes had happened every so often. I might have to try that eventually... (Again, the West of Fort Remote area would work best here) -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion. Well, you wouldn't have to reproduce that area perfectly, but CPeters' A2 Template would be a good starting place. Then you could just alter things a bit, to reflect recent cavequakes. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. You don't have to kill the pylons... ever. It works just as well to try and find ways around the pylons, and you die a lot less that way. Look for places where there are no pylons, and try to move along walls... as far away from pylons as possible. Haste everyone, and rush them past pylons in combat mode. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. Which ones do you mean? There are two major groups, after all... For the ones west of Fort Dranlon, you need to talk with someone in the fort to be told about a secret passage to the north of the fort. That'll take you west across the river (or rather, under it), over to a bunch of sliths and the Emerald Chestguard. If you mean the ones which have the Avengers Ring (who are kind of off in their own little section of Avernum, towards the middle of the world map), then look for a hole west of the Castle. You're there when you see a bunch of Warped (blue) Chitrachs walking around. Go down that hole, head northeast while underground, and you'll be under the land of the sliths. In short, please be more specific next time. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. It's possible to go nearly all the way back to the start. Not all the way, but to the point where there's nothing of interest before the only waterfalls in the game. But back on topic to Dintiradan's scenario... a question about setting: Where exactly in Avernum will this be set? Personally, I think a good way to solve some of the "trying not to be discovered by Avernite wizards" problem would be for Adze to set up shop west of Fort Remote (closer to Kothtar's old location than to what's out there in A4), where more-or-less constant cavequakes keep the area incredibly unstable and hard to travel through safely. Anyway, the point I was trying to make is this: if Adze tries to establish himself somewhere remote, he wouldn't have to agitate everyone in order to distract Avernum. He could just act with impunity and roast the Avernites as they filed into the narrow tunnels west of Fort Remote. Besides, I would think that Adze would be just as afraid of messing with the Vahnatai as with Avernum, given their magical prowess (assuming that more of them have woken up by the scenario's start). -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. Actually, that looks fairly good, graphics- and style-wise. I might have to give it a look when it comes out... Too bad they didn't really say much about a plot... I mean, honestly: quote:That's just a little bit generic, I mean. A tip, which may or not be considered as full-blown cheating: Save before using a Piercing Crystal on a barrier, then use it and see if it was worth it. If I recall correctly, some of the barriers you dispel in VoDT have Piercing Crystals hidden behind them. Slightly ironic, but true. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. Uh... If I recall correctly, Rentar's fortress west of Fort Remote is the first place where you can get Arcane Shield, so that person was either lying or talking about Rentar's other fortress. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Super-health slimes? What do you mean? As far as I know, very few of the slimes in the game have excessive amounts of HP... they just resist everything melee. Honestly, blasting them with Bolt of Fire (for one-on-one situations) and Icy Rain (for huge masses) works best, particularly when you've got a fighter absorbing their attacks. There's no particularly easy way to kill them, though. (Except for those slimes in the mine west of Dharmon, which will die with one Bolt and then explode in a cloud of flames) -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." In order for a time limit to work, you've got to be very diligent in scripting towns to change depending on the elapsed time. Rubble, dead townsfolk, charred stone... it's practically an art, and getting it to show up gradually (as with Drakey's suggestion), would be a scripting nightmare. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. No, the books have nothing to do with the adventurer's tests you find in the game. (there's 6 of them anyway) And what *i meant was that there are books like that lying around elsewhere. There's more than four scattered throughout the tower, so you don't have to get the one from behind the gate (which you can't open anyway). -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." That story does not conflict with A4 in any way, shape or form. EDIT: After reading the details in the other thread, it does kind of contradict... so just ignore this. quote:Agreed. If everyone in the world made a significant change, we'd have quite a few more lunatics running around trying to further impractical, immoral, or impossible agendas. That, and we'd see quite a few more suicide bombers. It's the little positive things that make life more tolerable, anyway... quote:Also agreed. The community service idea sounds good, though. Really, there just needs to be a five second spot on the news to remind people. We don't need these huge mini-series things that explore every single aspect of King's life. We just need to remember the message, and the positive changes he made in the political landscape of the U.S. Thus, this topic is a good way to remember MLK Jr., at least in my opinion. In short, we need to cut the hype so people don't miss the real point. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. Past that gate, you find some stairs. At the top of those stairs is a book with Bolt of Fire level 3. However, you just can't get there from that side of the gate. You get to that spot through a few secret doors on the level above you (start at the SW-most room of that level, then go north). -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. Groan... I remember that I tried to tell Jeff about that problem, as well as a misspelling of Rentar-Ihrno in the endgame text. I see that it wasn't fixed. On a tangential note, I seem to remember Dorikas being in a previous Avernum game somewhere... anybody know where? -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Yes, after playing A1, I finally realized how annoying it was to not be able to get into the Abyss. A few missions inside Empire-controlled Bargha and Spire would've done wonders for the game. Heck, you could've ended up retaking the Spire Fort or Fort Saffron (whose inclusion in A4 puzzled me until I remembered A1). -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice.
