quote:But it's practically the same thing when you're deciding who gets to live and who gets to die based on who can afford it. It's dooming people to die when they can't pay to live, which is as semantically close to killing them as possible. EDIT: I hate quote tags. quote:I've found just as often that it's "Just because you can beat up on it doesn't mean that the next one won't beat up on you." Sometimes, though... it was better to kill things on sight rather than wait for them to attack you. The Spiral Crypt comes to mind... if you don't try to kill stuff ahead of time, you will pay for it. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Hold down Tab. That ought to do it. quote:Downloaded into the box? You know, someone would be tempted to liberally apply magnets to said box, resulting in the poor downloaded soul being erased. quote:Possible outcomes: 1) The person's brain would promptly be fried by the information overload. 2) The disc-plugging-into-your-brain would inevitably be adapted for recreational use, possibly surpassing skribbane as a form of escapism. 3) Some radical terrorist group would sabotage the discs so they could brainwash people who were foolhardy enough to use them. 4) Some error (or possibly another terrorist-type aggressor) would corrupt the discs so that ordinarily productive people would become mentally-broken freaks of nature upon plugging in. 5) Microsoft would gain control of the project, causing everyone who plugged in to crash every five minutes. 6) Google would take control of the project, and the verb "to Google" would take on new and uncalled-for meanings. 7) The governments of the world would take control of the project, instituting a thought-control police state via methods already covered in 3). Or, my personal favorite... 8) All of the above. The moral of the story: think about the consequences of stupid inventions before they have a chance to become real. Only you can prevent stupidity. :D EDIT: Post #1111! That feels... I don't know, significant? quote:Sounds like the general heading of "asexual" to me... you know, the rarely-heard-from group that just isn't a huge fan of the whole deal. Personally, I'd have a much harder time wrapping my mind around "15.5" as a sexual orientation. Perhaps Inthrall was referring to Milla's post above, and he meant heterosexual by it. You know, Canned, if that's all you wanted to say, you shouldn't have made up a really empty topic to put it in. The moniker fits, so wear it, please. Or, you could've just PMd TM with the insult, and then we all could've been spared a little bit of time. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. This topic actually hurts my brain. That said, I'll take the modern, because I'd have been burned at the stake in medieval times. Last thing you ate: Pizza What you're wearing right now: St. Louis Cardinals shirt, dark cargo pants. Describe the room you are in: Standard 2-person dorm room, complete with two fluorescent lights, lava lamp, tie-dyed sheets (I kid you not), a couple of plants, and one well-used iBook. Further description would be even more boring than it's already become. (Honestly, if it was anywhere other than here, the "what you're wearing question would be infinitely creepy". Here, it's finitely creepy.) -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion. quote:Whoah... that's strange. Never had a cat or dog... my dad was alarmingly allergic to anything bigger than a hamster. That said, my family's had some pretty peaceful hamsters. Can't have pets in a dorm room here anyway... except for fish, and I'm way too good at killing them. Plants are far better, and are less likely to claw you in the face. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. Let's see... I don't think I've changed my sig since I got here. Well, kind of... The "Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice" quote was actually something I stole from a flavor text submission in a Magic: The Gathering contest. It was simply too good to pass up. The undead bit... well, I beta-tested Undead Valley. That should explain it pretty well... (shudders at repressed memories) AIGH! Not another skeleton! Make it stop!!! Wait, where am I again? Anyway, I've debated the merits of adding a Mitch Hedberg quote or two, or maybe going along the lines of weird quotes from older members (as Ash did), but for the moment, it all stays. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice.
