Helm's Deep would have been better if they'd gone for a more plausible approach and had the horses barreling down the hill rather than galloping. The gradient they were using was just silly and a warhorse flying through the air and landing on top of a crowd of Orcs would be pretty spectacular.

I think I saw his first post, about potentially making the Divine Comedy as a Blades scenario. Dated from early 1999, I think. I post-date Djur and TM by a few months.

Why is suppression a specifically modern problem? Do you have no conception of history whatsoever? With the possible exception of 5, each and every one of those 'sins' could be applied just as easily to Tudor England, for example.

Besides, I'll not deny that I suppress an awful lot, but anxieties about the previous six issues are very definitely not amongst the major ones. Suppressing things is just a way of functioning better.

To conclude, Djur's criticisms are spot on and 'sensitiveness' (FYI I think sensitivity is more idiomatic, but that's neither here nor there) is not the same as gullibility.

I don't think that supports your argument. It was enjoyable but several months of slightly irritating Alorael isn't a notable achievement.

That still doesn't answer Arctic's question. Even if we assume that a few threads deserve to be saved, nobody can realistically claim that everthing posted here has value. Have you seen Alorael's post count?

There's also the fact that it contains such things as the CoC. Much as I'd like to be given carte blanche, I don't think removing any semblance of rules we have would make this a saner place.

Indeed. I feel that very few of these problems apply solely to the modern period. I wouldn't even say that all of them are problems.

In fact, it's counter-productive. It just makes Apple look like a cult, only with less of the Xenu and more of the fanatical morons and mp3 players which owe their success compared to their competitors solely to their aesthetics.

If you want to worship Steve Jobs, do please go ahead. Don't go converting.

It's not the meaningless half I object to, it's the half that is offensively cretinous. Although having said that, if that half didn't exist, I'd then be able to redirect my energies to objecting to the meaningless stuff.

I prefer Perfect Dark. Mostly because when I play it, I'm doing it with three of my friends and the multiplayer is better on PD. Although it's amazing how much slowdown on it we used to tolerate (we finally reached our limit when we played a game with 8 meatsims and combat boost.)

I think two lines would be fine. After all, the composition won't be that simple. Nevertheless, doing more is bound to help when the entries are judged.

Also, the George Foreman grill is not the second but the last image that should be posted.

(Incidentally, should we retain the above name or change to Richard White Games Historical Society. I favour the former but I'm interested to hear opinions.)

The format will be different from the last competition (for which see most of the threads between December 2003 and February 2004 on this board.)

This time, you will still have to submit 8 images but the criteria will not be so restrictive.

Your task is to connect Jean Paul Marat and George Foreman's Grill in six steps. Normally, the sixth step would be George Foreman's Grill, but since you can have 8 images in a post, we're going to do 6 intervening images.

Therefore your first two images are

IMAGE(http://www.marxists.org/glossary/people/m/pics/marat-jean.jpg)

and

IMAGE(http://www.beststuff.co.uk/images/george_foreman_grill.jpg)

but your other 6 pictures can be of whatever you so wish provided you can justify the connections.

You must use all steps. At a pinch, you can use the same person twice but only for one person and the images must be different.

However, this competition is in two parts. All entries must also contain an original piece of verse extolling a Chinese revolutionary. The verse must be in iambic pentameter or heroic hexameter but it may be of any length.

Good luck!

Ike. Slick Willy. Dubya. I'm sure there are more.

Yes, there can be only one Josip Broz Tito. Unless you were to clone them and force them to fight to the death in an arena or something that would be cool also.
