"You don't have to be crazy to make the blood angel. I've done it myself. It's just another way to drive others crazy with fear. That could have been some creature possessed by a demon, but if it was, it was a very smart demon. That's nearly as frightening as the possibility that one of us is trying to sabotage this whole mission."

"If we have to move, we have to move. However, we can't afford to waste time or make an obvious target using a stretcher, so the wounded will have to walk. And we can't afford to stop. By all means help them walk but if they can't keep up and they start delaying us, we'll have to leave them."

"We'll have to leave them all alone. We cannot fragment this group. Nobody must run off like Terril did. We have to reach the village as quickly as possible, give a signal so any survivors can reach us and leave within a few days."

Kenthred wandered back in.

"If anybody's still curious about the blood eagle, they might want to take a look at Eurand (OOC: The fourth guard, in the spot that nobody wanted to fill.) It's not a particularly professional job, so I doubt it was the corpsman. Whoever it was has an artistic bent though, since he was hanging from a tree too."

"Oh, and it probably wasn't a demon. He was dead before they went for the lungs, so they were choosing stealth over style, and the only wounds he has are the ones in the neck, near the spine and a couple of cuts to the lungs. All with a knife. Doesn't sound like any demon I know."

"Sounds more like it was one of this group. Probably not somebody who's done it before and I think the damage to the lungs was accidental, so presumably they were nervous."

"Before anybody moves, we're going to need an explanation."

Kenthred strides into the bunker, having momentarily been relieved.

"We're leaving? We're leaving a heavily fortified position in order to go attack another fortified position and we're going to split up to do this?"

He sees Hispar and Rey, the latter already having new bandages put on by some kind soul. "And we're going to do it whilst we've got walking wounded? If they were seriously injured, I'd be happy to give them a spear and leave them here. But either of these two can be saved. We don't have a healer, but we've got enough people with basic priestly or medical abilities to at least stop their condition declining."

"If Hispar has a day of marching, I don't believe he'll wake up tomorrow morning. Even if he does he'll probably have pneumonia within a few days. And Rey needs rest too. We've got to stabilise his condition. I've got some herbs in my bag that might help him with pain, but he's still going to need to lay up for at least a day."

"You can leave if you like but if you're going to do that you're going to make proper barricades for the bunker so we can defend it."

"And if you try to come back in, I'll kill you. Run along, children."

Kenthred walks to over to take a closer look at Hispar and Rey then stalks out back to his place on the perimeter.

I suspect Alec isn't posting because the RP has come to a halt because he, like the rest of us, can't do anything until we get to the bunker. I hope this is the last hint I have to drop.

I also suspect he'll get pissy if you roleplay his character MSW. It's not that you're using it, it's that you clearly don't understand the character of Chadussid. He has after all clearly told the mages not to cast spells and expressed a contempt for leadership by consensus.

I think it's slow because we're spending so much time waiting for the traps to be disarmed so the plot can advance.

I'd advise you try to speed through this. If there were so many traps, the base would be useless since anybody inside would starve to death.

Know, I was not thinking of member #27. I do have a reasonably good memory for names and the occasional one will stick.

Mostly not the hordes of bagots who think they deserve respect because in the year between disappearance and reappearance they didn't cause us irritation, but the occasional one slips through.

I think I remember Warslith, although there have been so many members with Slith in their names it's hard to tell. If he's the one I remember, then he's even more of a moronic waste of space now than before.

MSW, military ingenuity, particularly of the kind the Corpsmen seem to specialise in, is always going to involve complicated and nasty machinery. And time period has no effect on this. For example, the grenade was used in a primitive form in the 15th century. But I'm not entirely sure why it's so hard to understand. The gist is this - you trigger it, it hurts. Surely that's not too complicated?

Alas, I also don't see how your plan to solve the argument has been massively derailed. Some semblance of order is being reassembled and to restore it any further than is now happening would be bad RPing.

FZ, I think only you and Slith are together at present. The rest are probably on the same path, but by nightfall they'll have stopped and Garath hasn't learnt this as yet. This means either they'll have to link up in the morning or someone will have to brave the paths ahead to try to inform Garath.

Zephyr, Rey is wounded and his speed is his only real advantage. Law has managed to survive several weeks out here. That suggests that at first glance Law would be the stronger. That doesn't mean Rey couldn't escape, but his chances of taking Law down in a fair fight are minimal. Although obviously it doesn't matter, because neither of you are actually double agents.

Role playing is a horrifically vague term though. In Quake, you play a role. You're a person with a gun shooting everything in sight.

Law piled into the demons, taking little notice of the humans around him. It was therefore easy for Kenthred to plough into his side and knock him over.

Grabbing him by the collar, Kenthred dragged him away from the fights to a nearby tree. The spirits ignored him, seeing easier targets in the centre of the column.

Law gulped as he felt a sword touch his throat. It didn't look particularly well made, but the point certainly felt sharp.

"You want to tell me who you are? You aren't wearing Corpsman clothing, but that doesn't mean you aren't one of them. You have ten seconds to convince me you aren't the one who's being harrying off before I pin your throat to the floor with this sword."

Law stuttered and began to speak, only to see Kenthred raise his shield as a flash flew through the air towards it. A second later he heard a thud as the deflected bolt stick in a nearby tree.

A hand was offered to him. "You aren't a Corpsman. You can tell me who you are later, but for now, you can help me catch the bastard who just shot at me."

As Law raised himself, Kenthred was already rushing off. Fifty yards later, he came to a stop, seemingly out of breath. As Law powered after him, Kenthred's arm came out like a flash, almost striking Law in the chest.

"There's a trap just ahead. He's escaped. Lets get back to the demons."

Kenthred quickly moved towards the wagon to equip himself as soon as Chadussid threw the rock. Now wearing a battered set of chainmail, old and reinforced with leather and metal plates only in a few strategic places and hefting a large shield, clearly fireproofed and possibly magical, since its much better construction suggests it was looted off a wealthy opponent.

He puts on an iron helm. The equipment is not going to stop all attacks and will weigh him down quite a bit, although he's used enough for it not to incapacitate or tire him excessively.

He looks around. Most of his fellow adventurers are less extensively armoured, relying on magic, agility or inherent abilities to escape attack. Nevertheless, if the corpsman is as good as he appears, none of those are guaranteed to save them.

Kenthred speaks up. "Right, column of march here. Anybody else with proper armour or a big shield get to the outside. Pack animals, mages and the incompetent to the centre. Tie Jansen to a pack animal and if you aren't guarding the column, carry some extra baggage."

"Chadussid, you're our best means of spotting imminent danger. I want you with me at the front. And if I think you're protecting him, I won't hesitate to skewer you. No offence, of course."

"Rey, watch the back. Don't lose contact."

"He'll most likely target the pack animals. They're our only method of moving our wounded and it makes carrying supplies quicker. He's also going to target anybody who gets careless. And if he doesn't kill you, I most likely will. The healer's dead, so if somebody's fatally injured, we're going to have to kill them. If we try to save them, we waste supplies and time and make ourselves more vulnerable."

"Also, heading for Selger may not be a good idea just yet. If there are demons or barbarians around here, we don't want to attack them whilst simultaneously being trailed by a lunatic black opsman. We need to find an open stretch of high ground and establish base camp."

"Any questions?"

"I'm Akhtar Batuta. Good morning."

His fellow traveller, a figure eating up the ground with long relaxed strides, glanced up at him briefly and glowered. A single word was muttered before he turned his gaze back towards the floor. "Morning."

Batuta persisted. It was always good to know your allies, he considered. "And what is your name?" he asked.

"They call me Kenthred." The figure hefts his spear further up his body and flicks at an imaginary piece of dirt on his dust-covered tunic and cloak. His tone conveys irritation and somnolence.

Batuta kept going. He could deal with a little frisson. There was no harm in another question. "Why did you join this expedition?"

"Selger was settled in a valley with poor agricultural land, poor access and more volcanoes than is healthy. You know what that means? Either there's something here that's valuable enough for the risk of the demons to be tolerated or, more likely, morons planned the settlement but they somehow came across something of great worth and died for their knowledge."

"Either way I'd rather die memorably and quickly torn apart by infernal beasts than miserably and slowly fighting bandits with a sword in my gut and if I have to die, I'd rather do it for good pay."

I consider proper RPGs to have begun with Goldenaxe. I also consider this and Streets of Rage to be masterpieces which it should be a crime not to play through at least 5 times.

Northerners in England may hate Southerners and vice versa. The local women may be the butt of a multitudinous variety of Essex girl jokes (although many of those are deserved.) Yorkshire may be referred to here only in terms including the phrase 'down pit.' Geordies may be considered to be subhuman. Residents of Hampshire may be right up their own arses. But as everywhere bar Cornwall in England has spoken the same language more or less for 500 years and since the last attempt at regional autonomy faded away in 1570, I'd say Englsihmen everwhere have a lot in common. Not a lot of good things, but a lot in common. All our real bile is therefore reserved for the French, Germans, Scots, Irish, Swiss and numerous other nationalities. Hence UKIP's success.
