The last two books of the Hitchhiker trilogy of five aren't that good. Adams himself pretty much accepted that. I can't remember reading any Tom Holt, although the name rings a bell. I've read pretty much everything Pratchett ever wrote. I remember once reading a few books by an American author who seemed to be trying comic fantasy. His early stuff was quite good, but he began to lose it after about five books.
