I'm telling you, those Mohamedans are a cult. If we add the infidel Catholics onto the list, there's only half as many of them as of us. Why does the US want to invade the Hague if its soldiers commit war crimes? Misc was nothing exceptional. There was good stuff there, but there was plenty of bad stuff too. No more than a third of the topics on Misc were worth reading, a mon avis. -------------------- Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned I'll tell you my story, man Though I wish I'd never been born I'm loose at the seams, I've broken my dreams And my hand it shakes the pen Come on, come on now baby, Let the good times roll again Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

I can think of plenty of cases where killing in a just cause would be fun. *cracks knuckles* My various gripes can be broadly divided into 3 categories. I'm not going to share them with you in their entirety because a) I can't remember them all b) I'll get bored c) you'll get bored d) my computer would freeze as I finished typing e) I've got no wish to show you just how petty I really am. The 3 categories are these: 1) Things that irritate me because I'm a self-important pedant 2) Being noticed 3) Not being noticed -------------------- Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned I'll tell you my story, man Though I wish I'd never been born I'm loose at the seams, I've broken my dreams And my hand it shakes the pen Come on, come on now baby, Let the good times roll again Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

Most things that supposedly come in groups of 12 don't. For example, depending who you believe, there could be 14 or 15 different tribes of Israel. The only exception to this is the dozen. When I get charged excessive prices at the bakery it's because they're run by a chain, not because they mix up 12 and 13.

Hypocrite literally means actor. It's a little more complicated than that, but that's the centre of it. Try shouting that at mimes. It's a compliment. I remember I used to tell people it meant 'rule of the horses.' I love improving vocabularies :P -------------------- Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned I'll tell you my story, man Though I wish I'd never been born I'm loose at the seams, I've broken my dreams And my hand it shakes the pen Come on, come on now baby, Let the good times roll again Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

The rabbit's about the fourth one in the cycle, right? If so, what was up with the guy who came up with the story of how each animal gets each year. Y'know, when I write in English, it's nice if you bother to read it properly. I said that it was ONLY libel, implying that it's not a bad thing. Or as they would say in Bratislava if they used hackneyed shareware translating engines: Y'know, Êîãäà ß çàïèñûâàþ â Àíãëèéñêîì, ìèëî åñëè Âû ìåøàåòå, ÷òîáû ÷èòàòü ýòî ïðàâèëüíî. ß ñêàçàë, ÷òî ýòî áûëî ÒÎËÜÊÎ êëåâåòîé, ïîäðàçóìåâàÿ, ÷òî ýòî - íå ïëîõàÿ âåùü. Well, maybe not. Maybe they have a different alphabet in Slovakia. Enjoy it anyway.

I've got details of how the various pages affect your results. When I finish my Genghis Khan article (due out slightly after RiB) I'll post some of them. There have been benevolent tyrants. In fact, around 500BC tyrant did not have the same connotations it does now. It meant the same as basileus, except that whereas basileus implied a king who succeeded a member of his own family, a tyrant was one who seized absolute power himself. There have been, as I said, benevolent absolute monarchs. But they're rare. And the fact that those few were good people, does not mean that the position is any less objectionable.

My siblings have both had NeoPets accounts. I've never touched it. Learning that it's aimed at preschool children but has spyware attached that signs you up to bestiality spam was a major factor.

Being one of the aforementioned genetic failures, I'm going to claim that the trait is endemic in all British males. If I was going to be on a desert island, I'd want someone who I rather like, or failing that who I could at least have a good conversation with. That excludes ef (I don't know enough about sociology) and Davey (sure, I could have a reasonable debate, but the background knowledge just isn't there to sustain it.) Then I'd want someone I wouldn't feel too guilty about eating. Saunders and ef (again) are out, and I don't feel I know Rentboy well enough as yet to include him either. Then I'd want someone who I could be fairly sure of not catching anything off. Scorp, Alec and Djur are off the list without a doubt, I suspect Davey is a closet pecattiphiliac, Drakey has an unnatural obsession with fruit and I don't like to inquire in what ways TGM is a deviant. That just leaves Thuryl. In the interests of me, the Turing machine woul have to die.

They are the same game. It's just Avernum is an updated version with isometric view. There are minor differences in spells and abilities, but that's what it boils down to. I think it's fairly easy to get the Avernum games to run on Linux. You'd have to ask someone like Nascimento to find out. I'd recommend that you go with Exile 3 or another Avernum game. Avernum 3 very quickly gets dull due to the pathetically easy combat.

Why do you want to know anything new about yourself? I tend to think that if it isn't obvious, you'd probably prefer not to know. Then again, I'm more than a touch neophobic. All the different personality types cannot be divided up along 4 different lines. There are too many variations, and now matter how small the variations, they make a big difference.

Not all the fogies have done it. Djur did it because he does things like this, and I did it because I realised I'd got nearly 1000 posts and needed an incentive to disappear. Needless to say, that failed. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

How many Satanists in their heart of hearts actually believe in Satan, much less worship him? Very few. There's the Aleister Crowley posse, who believe because they've taken way too many drugs, and there's the whinging teenager posse who just don't think atheist sounds impressive. They'll either grow out of it, or they'll stay stupid. Now I suggest we drop this before anyone gets offended. If you want to read ranting and raving against group X, may I suggest you look up the book of Obadiah.

It may be the mindset that attracts people to the boards (not the games, that's a different matter.) It may just be that people tend to start out further left and move right. Or the test may just not be entirely accurate.

I like Banks (Iain Banks and Iain M. Banks are the same person) but he's undeniably odd. I didn't really like Excession, however, and I find Feersum Endjinn to be impossible to finish due to the bits in pseudo-phonetic speech. At a pinch, I'd say my favourite is Against a Dark Background, or maybe the Player of Games. I might say the Wasp Factory, but for the maggots-baby's brain incident.

I've read the posthumous Adams work. It's not a Hitchhiker's book. Part of it was intended to be a third Dirk Gently book (I personally consider Dirk Gently to be his best work) and part of it was just half finished files on his computer.

Actually, no. To a large extent (although not as much as some post-war historians might have you believe) he's responsible for today's welfare state. It wasn't his intention to do so, but he was one of the ones who got the ball rolling. Against that you have Gallipoli and his journalistic inventions in South Africa, but nobody's perfect. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |
