The Treaty of Tordesillas was mostly influenced by the pope being controlled by Portugal and Spain at that time. There was no real logical basis to this assignment except to try to keep those two powers at peace and nobody was going to be surprised when after the Reformation Protestant powers ignored it. The United States was theoretically formed as a secular state. Nevertheless, this has much to do with the wide variety of nonconformist groups as to any particular ideals. The attitude to Catholics frequently demonstrated in later years is evidence of this - if you were Protestant, then for stability's sake your religious allegiance would not be remarked upon. Of course, most settlers to America were not sent there. They may have left Britain for a quiet life but in the main if somebody was going to be told to leave the shores of Britain, it would be for something more serious than being a Puritan. Alec, regionalism only really applies in countries which formed comparatively recently or were not greatly centralised. France and England would hence not have demonstrated this to such an extent. It would be more evident in ununified areas such as Germany and Italy or areas with many ethnic groups such as Austria and Russia. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

Maps are commonly designed so you can get from point A to point B. They therefore have details. That is merely a particularly rugged O. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

Black ops just generally refers to elite military units which do not advertise their existence. However, I don't see that it matters that much at present whether character A may or may not be feeding information to a figure a long distance away. Due to lack of contact, the character would not be getting adaptive orders and would largely have to act on his own initiative. Anyway, characters with hidden agendas are more fun. My character: Kenthred, male, in his early to mid thirties. Professional soldier, most recently serving in several campaigns against bandits on the other side of Jenarva. Reasons for relocating to the Valley of Thunder unclear. Physically unexceptional. Fit, as you would expect a veteran heavy infantryman to be, although prone to binge drinking, but not immensely strong. Nondescript brown hair and eyes. In social situations, he tends to blend into the background. Only really notable characteristic is an all-pervading stubbornness. Trained in the use of a spear and sword. Comes equipped with his own tower shield. More used to fighting in a shield wall, but should adapt quickly if need be. The sort of person you'd want to have on your side in a fight, but not the sort likely to be immortalised in song. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

Ethnically, I tend to class myself as Lebanese, solely because the most recent statistics form we got allowed you to decide your own ethnicity. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

English. If you go back four generations, there are a few Scots and a Swede, but to all intents and purposes I'm just English/British. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

If you're going to post those details, you may as well give the whole backstory now. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

People get offended when others do not act like newbies? If there's one trait which is almost synonymous with newbies, it's heinous stupidity (those who don't display this rapidly stop being considered newbies.) Besides, this is what mods are for. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

It's not a reference that you ought to understand. Although if you really want to know, you should probably use Urban Dictionary. And not link the results here. Essentially, these boards can be a confusing and bad-tempered place. They can also be very funny and supportive. The ratio of these two things to each other is debatable, estimates varying according to the tint of your spectacles. Mostly, they're just moronic, but no more than the rest of the internet. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

A lack of understanding does not mean that an idea will not be liked. Clearly plenty of people didn't really understand the setting of Nethergate but it's still viewed with a lot of affection from certain sections. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

This doesn't sound bad for an RP. I don't normally like character based RPs that much, but I've got time to waste right now, so I'll probably give it a go. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

Timing, on the other hand, matters. This is after all referred to as a community. Long tenure is also a sign of a thick skin and a level head. It also indicates that the member is more likely not to be a moron, since intelligent members will not meet with the same ire and be driven away. Which is not to say they'll meet with no ire. Aside from which, I can't tell plenty of new members apart and don't want to so I'm happy with this form of elitism. Although it's not member number that counts. There are plenty with low member numbers who I still consider new and stupid. Post count is worse than useless. If you want to count an inability to know when to shut up as a sign of wisdom, you need your head seeing to. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

When you say it will cover anything, you mean you wanted a website but couldn't decide what you wanted it to be about? Well, that certainly sounds worthwhile. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

In 1950, those companies were not so large. However, the Korean economy was grown in such a way as to keep a small number of very large countries directly linked to the military regime. On the surface at least, the closest parallel is the economics carried out by Hjalmar Schact and the Nazi regime's association with companies such as Volkswagen and IG Farben. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

See, this is where technology falls down. I've got a dog which already has the insatiable urge to kill small furry animals, ability to find and grip a jugular vein and get up and go to jump fences to do so. Merely by tarring and feathering someone I reckon I could get him to attack within half an hour. It'd take many times that long merely to create an AIBO with teeth. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

I'd like to see post-apocalyptic, since having put up with Avernum 3 I'm not sure I really care about balance. The only trouble is that you can't really improve upon the Fallout series on Jeff's budget. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

I'm inclined to think that sportsmen ought to play a little of other games. For example, if rugby players played soccer they might learn that they can't kick very well and it gets boring quickly and football players might stop diving. -------------------- "I particularly like the part where he claims not to know what self-aggrandisement means, then demands more wing-wongs up his virgin ass" Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |
