Late SAT. night I will be purging all boards but the the Blades of Avernum boards and the Tech Support Boards. Everything that hasn't been posted to for 45 days will be removed.

This has become necessary because old board messages are taking up too much disk space. We have a limit of 500 MB for ironycentral, and we have been pushing it for months now and action must be taken before Ironycentral is shut down entirely by the webhoster.

Back up things that are close to your heart now.

Mariann,

As this is a rather larger project than last time (everything but BoA and TS? jeez), two days may not be enough.

Anyone concerned, this is our response.

ATTN SPIDWEB: As this is about four times as many pages as last time, please, I ask for ONE WEEK in order to archive it all. Two days is simply not enough. Please purge on Saturday the 21st, rather than the 14th.

Pictures take up relatively little space - they're not stored locally. Copies of the Aeneid or various treaties, however, are stored locally.

In fact, if I posted a single picture as a response to this instead of this post, it would take up less board space.

General falls under the axe Sat. night for sure I can wait on the others till Monday. But the problem is our webhoster is breathing down my neck and they're not shy about shutting down the boards and ironycentral themselves. They have done it 3 times in the past with 0 warning, so I know it's not an idle threat.
As a compromise, I'll do one board a day, worst ones first, in this order:
Sat. - General
Sun- Avernum Trilogy
Mon - Exile Trilogy
Tue - Blades of Exile
Wen- Geneforge 2
Fri - Nethergate/Richard White/Subterra/Mod Board/Announcements.

Then we'll see where we are at.
Mariann

PS- Both Blades boards are safe, as is tech support.

Where is Irony Central hosted? And what do you pay? I have 200 MB for 16 dollars a year and thats including the domain. You could get a 1000MB for 100 dollars a year plus seven dollars for the domain. They also have some bigger plans and some promotions. So if you want to check it out goto Magicomm. Oh and if your plan is cheaper tell me.

They seem to use Infopop. Check out the link at the very bottom of the page to see it.

Infopop is the company that makes these bulletin boards, not the ISP.

Oh thanks for pointing that out. Well as you can see Magicomm does seem to have better price but they might have something that they need here. If you decide to use Magicomm I want the Custom Title Our Savior :D . Feel free to ask for any details.

We plan to stick with our webhoster because they give us unlimited bandwidth, which is the most important feature for us since when we release a new game we push about 100GB in a month per ftp site we maintain. Magicomm seems about par, but their most expensive account still limits bandwidth to 60GB.

Wait, hold on. Your server gives you UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH. *notes this away for the next discussion of whether to update BoA with a new version or not, since I no longer have any sympathy for the "It eats up a whole lot of expensive bandwidth" argument*

Do the unpurged forums include the BoA Editor Board, the BoA Game Board, or both? Just to avoid later accidents.

As she said directly that BoE was going to be purged, I think "Both Blades boards" refers to both BoA boards.

She didn't mention Announcements, but I can't see how deleting stuff there will save any space... it's only 30 or so posts anyway, not even a hundredth of what remains of General *after* the purge.

There's also the fact that it contains such things as the CoC. Much as I'd like to be given carte blanche, I don't think removing any semblance of rules we have would make this a saner place.

They're killing announcements. The mods board probably has about the same number of topics, but every bit helps keep it down.

I mirrored Announcements anyway. Only a matter of 30 seconds or so, after all. Not a lot to take care of.

As an aside, there are some fora missing (as in, no longer in existence). General is 1, and Tech Support is 2, and so on. I assume 4 is the Mod Board, since I can't access it. But boards 8, 9, 11, and 12 are missing. 12 used to be Misc, I think. Does that mean that 8, 9, and 11 were A1, A2, and A3 respectively? I s'pose that would make chronological sense, as 10 is Geneforge.

That they were. When GF3 comes out I expect that three individual boards will be amalgamated into one.

Did there used to be a board for BoE Editor, or did it just start as plain BoE?

As for announcements, I don't even thing there was a new announcement posted since I joined.
