Actually, Salmon, there are lots of text strings that are not encoded in text files AND are not determined entirely by the parameters used in functions encoded in text files.

Did anyone else notice that certain artifacts from very old games seem to end up sticking around long past they are used? For example, the DITL resource for the Exile II "are you sure you want to turn the music on?" window, which has not been used since Exile II, made it into Nethergate and all of the Avernums, including BoA IIRC.

You do realize, MEAT, that in addition to picturing you as a strip of bacon, I now picture you as the creepy old man/generic villain of Yu-gi-oh?

No one should have to be pictured as a Yu-gi-oh character...

Sluggish increased? I didn't see any level-based increase to Fast on Feet when I tested, so that's pretty weird...

Interesting... I expected another few votes to come from posting this topic, probably along with sarcastic comments. I now have eight additional votes, bringing my score from 4.38 to 4.05.

The amazing thing is that, despite all the meaninglessness and pettiness, karma still manages to be less meaningless and less petty than ebay feedback...

Edit: Also, what is the "evidence" that votes from some users count more than others?

Clarifcation: TM was not crucified in Slarty vs. Desk! Really, people. If you pay attention, you will in fact see that he was unbanned in said strip (by, ironically enough, me).

Karma, at the UBB, has always kind of amused me. I know better than to take it seriously -- but I do find it interesting to see what causes it to change. (i.e., what makes enough of an impression on people for them to rate you.)

When I first posted at Spidweb, it was only in the G3 and A4 forums, and so long as I remained there my karma sat at 5 stars (4.5 or higher average). I was helpful and I was accurate, so that's not surprising. It's also not surprising that it quickly dropped down to 4 stars when I began posting in General, and making comments more controversial than "the stick is the best melee weapon in A4."

Then it went back up to 5 stars, and sat there for a while. This happened almost immediately after I posted in the census topic. I hadn't said anything remotely interesting lately, and the only thing noticeable about my answers (in the context of spidweb, anyway) was being an open flame. That was vote #11, I believe, and took it from 4.45 to 4.50.

One vote, presumably a 1, sent it back down to 4.27. This happened immediately after I dared to urge caution in the early hours of Ashgate, rather than immediately tearing into Jeff. Yeah politics.

After the chats started, and once I began Slarty vs. Desk, another 3 votes sent it up to 4.40. I guess I made some friends. Given the, uh, content of the chats, this fits with the flaming cheese theme ;)

Now, one more vote finds me at 4.38... presumably triggered by my role (flaming cactus?) in TM's most recent departure.

I'm curious if anyone else has watched the rise and fall of their karma. Yeah, I know there is a stupid karma topic every month, and yes, I know Imban rates everyone who posts in it 1 star, but I can't help being analytically minded about these kind of irrelevant details. (It is, after all, what I received so much karmic approbation for in the other forums :P )

Wowzers.

One thing I will say about Spiderweb, there's never a dull moment here!

I have to admit that the social worker in me was kinda gleeful to see the ban. If limits are tested, and you don't back 'em up... they break.

Oh, and Salmon... heh :)

Yes, the stick is the most powerful melee weapon in A4! Shameful.

I guess the bonus damage from Demonslayer is on the small end. That's a pity, especially given the emphasis it's gotten once again.

Did anyone else wish they could have Minddueled Rentar, as in E2?

Shine --
I'm glad the list is helpful! I put it together for my own edification in Excel. I realized it might be useful to others, but didn't really want to take the time to convert it to html tables, so I just did a quick Save as HTML from Excel. I found it somewhat shameful, advocate of simple HTML that I am, but it was fast and painless.

Anyway, if you want to edit the HTML, I'll gladly replace it with your corrected version, but A4 items are thankfully not center stage in my life right now :)

Also, I don't think anyone has investigated how the disadvantages work. If their hindrances increase with level, the same way the bonuses from advantages do, then you could be in real trouble later on.

Demonslayer gets special bonus damage against demons and demonic creatures. I haven't used it much, but I would guess this is a simple addition to damage, and not an extra damage multiplier. Against non-demons, it is almost the same as the Flaming Sword -- it does 1-3 more damage, but is 5% less likely to hit.

I haven't actually used it much, but it's surprising that it wouldn't do bonus damage against demons. You sure about that?

Ok, that was brilliant. (Not to mention about ten times classier than the direction my strip has been going in.)

There's no need to fear...

Finger typically has the /g/.

To imagine finger without it, just say singer and then replace the s with an f.

Not to mention that Nikki is your -- uh -- your (*counting links*) great-grandson-in-law. At least I think that's the right term.
