I also saw Return of the King yesterday (Boxing Day). That was one impressive film, but the first half of it in the book was in The Two Towers (with Shelob). That vaguely bothered me. -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) Eat pie! BADGER! Go on, make me jealous (if you can)! I got an iPod (obviously, look up at my shown name!), a DV camcorder, three books (Pratchett, Philip Pullmann, the Knowledge), two box sets of Friends, a Cadbury Selection box, underwear (boxers and socks, two of which have Muttley from Dick Dastardly cartoons on them), juggling balls (which I can't juggle), silly putty, a Divine fairtrade bar, strawberry raisins, and an orange. -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) Why are you still arguing about the gold/en ring thing? It really doesn't matter! That's not what Christmas is all about! I know it's not Christmas anymore! Thank you Morgan. You talk sense (almost). And Sir David, you're now just confusing me. Since when has "Five" had two notes. That's surely not right! My teacher e-mailed me his alternative lyrics, but I can't be bothered posting them. I'm going to LOTR. Bye. Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noël, Vrolijk Kerstfeest, Frohe Weinachten everyone. -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) Do you think any other topic other than possibly those mindless neverending RP's has this many posts? Am I amazing for making this topic? No? Oh well... I once saw this site and it was a sort of "Make your own rap song" and it was like a fill-in-the-boxes page—it had fields like "Number of 'modda****a' per minute", "Number of brovvas", etc. Of course, it wasn't real, but it really funny. I'm not listening to anything as I'm in the library again, which isn't very quiet: there's beeps from the checkout and hums from the automatic door which keeps opening and shutting, possibly because of the large Christmas tree just outside it. Well, it was. It's not now—I just checked. And does anyone know how to post em dashes and o slashes on a PC? I like orangutans (influenced by Pratchett books), o's with crosses over them, and squiggles. My current screen name (one two zero seven-oslash) is my member number followed by the initial letter of ørangutan (which must have ø, not a lowly o! (and while it's on my mind, if you look at my sig it has Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch written out (it's the Welsh train station with 50-odd letters in it). Neither that nor this was spelt with copy and paste (I'm amazing, aren't I!) I always sing it "gold". I think it doesn't sound right for "golden". It was our last day of term and some of our teachers sang it with alternative lyrics in the end-of-term assembly. I'm not going to bother writing it out right now, but "five gold[en] rings" became "no chewing gum". Some of them you might not get unless you were actually at my school. They had props and stuff as well, for "a partridge in a pear tree" one of the secretaries waved a rubber bird around. One of the jannies was the conductor and he was wearing a big sparkly suit, so we all laughed. They got such a massive cheer at the end. -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) Eat pie! BADGER! When you say "512 of everything else", do sets of walls with a dozen graphics each count as one or a dozen? What does IIRC mean? And have you tried it? You're a beta-tester, right? Currently I'm not listening to anything, cos PCs don't have iTunes (they can get it, but don't have it). Maybe I'll steal the Mac back from my wee brother soon. When I come back from the toilet ;) . Apparently it's been on the news all day. We were arguing today about whether it was more or less "important" here than Diana's death in 1997, which interrupted normal TV schedules for about a week. -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) Doesn't anyone actually sacrifice goats and sheep anymore? No virgins, even? Has anyone read The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett, where Rincewind and Cohen save a virgin from a druid sacrifice and she starts screaming at them, saying that all her life had led up to it ("All those wasted Saturday nights spent at home")? And how come no-one else has posted alternative/foreign "Twelve Days of Christmas" except for Sir David, of course, who is wrong. On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me... A partri-idge in a pear tree. ... On the twelvth day of Christmas my true love sent to me... Twelve drummers drumming, Eleven pipers piping, Ten lords-a-leaping, Nine ladies dancing, Eight maids-a-miliking, Seven swans-a-swimming, Six geese-a-laying, Five go-old riiiiinngsss, Four calling birds, Three french hens, Two turtle doves, And a partri-idge in a pear treee. If anyone disagrees with what I just wrote (as in, thinks it has different words, not that you think it should be "eight days of Hanukkah" or somesuch), feel free to say so. A girl in my class thinks it's "four colly birds" and I keep insisting to her that it's not and vice-versa. Next time I make such a poll, TGM, which may or may not be never, I promise to put Finland on the list. It said European though. My line of thought runs thus: there's more likely to be more native speakers of English than non-natives. I may be wrong. That should have been my other question now I come to think of it, not "Age?"... -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year. Wow. There was me, god-knows-how-long-ago, idly starting a topic such as this for no apparent raisin, and now look at it! Eleven pages is a lot! Well done everyone! I'm still listening to my boring ol' Moby songs. Wait, a new one's starting... Like a Motorway by Saint Etienne. just checking, and I did it all the way back in October! A whole month's gone by... How extraordinary. TGM, you are generally evil! I like Pratchett books, and I'm reading a Robert Rankin book at the moment. I've also read Lord of the Rings and I'm the only one I know able to write in Elvish. (well, English with Elvish letters) But the book bored me somewhat. I was half-asleep at the time. I quite like the Harry Potter books but quite frankly anything other than the books to do with Harry Potter just makes me sick. I once read Frankenstein for a school project. It was an alright book really. I like sometimes to use archaic language for no apparent reason. Like "hither and thither" instead of "here and there" (well, not much yet anyway...) or "whilst" instead of "while". Et cetera. -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) Eat pie! BADGER!
