OI! I posted this FOUR DAYS AGO and I haven't got a reply!!!! Since when were you all so uncooperative? Isn't this the place I go to get HELP for this kind of thing. I'm also in a VERY BAD MOOD, so if you don't help me I may have to personally MURDER you. Ok, it's working now, but I'm still annoyed that no-one replied! Whatever it is, I'd say all the continents should have not very much between them. Valorim seems to be a small continent separated from (Pralgrad) only by a mountain range, but so what?? Europe is a small continent separated from Asia only by the Caucasus and Ural mountains. It is perfectly feasible to be connected to (Pralgrad). Perhaps the Vahnatai have a completely different spoken language. It's also perfectly feasible that Novah is only their archaic language of the scriptures and inscriptions, such as Latin is to us, and that they speak a language more like French or Spanish to us, ie. evolved from Novah... People probably wouldn't want to learn your language just to play your scenario, but maybe if you put the foreign language alongside English, it might add a degree of fantasy and interest.... Indeed, in BoA you can make large pictures like maps and whatnot to put into dialogs, like in A3, right? Soruharva needs a phonology: what sounds are permitted? What clusters of consonants and vowels are allowed? What sound does each letter actually stand for? Etc. Why call it Pralgradian Basic when it makes more sense to call it just Pralgradian? Basic simply sounds too scientific... Posts: 316 | Registered: Saturday, May 25 2002 07:00 |

Actually Novah was the main thing that made me think about it justnow, as well as being on a BB about conworlding/conlanging* and linguistics. *constructed language Do you have a link to grammars and/or lexicons for these other languages? I wasn't quite sure where to put this, so I just put it here in BoA for the moment. Anyway, what are the languages of the world of Avernum? I'm particularly interested in the Vahnatai language, and possibly constructing a grammar for it. For instance, their use of is ___ing instead of ___s suggests to me that their language is isolating like Chinese, ie. all the words are seperate and there are no grammatical inflections like in European languages, however they also often compound words together, so that sort of contradicts... Also, what would Vahnatai writing look like? Like Egyptian hieroglyphs or Arabic cursive writing or European writing or Chinese brush script logographs? Or like runes? Any ideas? Any idea what I'm going on about? I could always post it to another BB which would, but they wouldn't know what the Vahnatai were... Posts: 316 | Registered: Saturday, May 25 2002 07:00 |

I can sort of write [my name] legibly with my left hand... almost... Unfortunately I haven't even attempted to write ørangutan. My dad once knew another guy whose young daughter was left-handed and occasionally forgot which way to write and would write right-to-left in perfect mirror writing. My family... hmmm... well... First, anyway, we're all right-handed, except one of my cousins, but she's only one at the moment (or was she two...?). Me and my uncle were talking about that, and how if she ever wanted to play the guitar they'd have to get her a left-handed one or she'd find it difficult. I have ten cousins, which may or may not be above average. My mother has no brothers, her side of the family is four sisters. My paternal grandmother was dead long before I was born, and her ex-husband when I was about one. My maternal grandfather died three years ago, in September 2001, and his ex-wife is still alive and kicking (and I think she just retired). My family is rather weird for birthdays; you can say something about almost all of them: My maternal grandparents were born within a week of each other; My brother has the same birthday as the same grandfather; My mother is within two days of Christmas; I was born on my parents' first anniversary; My second-to-youngest cousin was born on New Year's Day, and my youngest was due on her mother's birthday; Both their mothers have the same birthday (Mainly cos they're twins ); My other aunt and her daughter are one day after the other; My dad has the same birthday as the Queen (21st of April), although he's like half her age (he's forty-something now); Most of the family was born in the period of September-December. And then there's other little complications, which I won't go into for similar raisins to IWTH (Remember: School should be run by cows, people!) -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) I've never met anyone who played Spidweb, but Khoth used to go to my school; he was a bit older than me, though, so never had a clue who I was, nor indeed did I know who he was, but he left early on his last year to go to a Physics Olympiad with the top mark in the school, so then everyone knew who he was... -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) I suppose I'm sort of a Christian, although none of my family has been to church for years (with the possible exception of my dad), but I go to SU (scripture union) camps sometimes, like this Easter I'm going to Austria, and so do my brother and sister sometimes. I'm not a very spiritual or religious person, to be honest. -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) Eat pie! American certificates make no sense. We have U(niversal), PG, 12, 15, 18. The last three are only for those ages and above, but 12 was changed to 12a recently (under 12's can get in with an adult) This reminds me: to get my lost registration code for Exile III back, do I have to e-mail Jeff with the same info? -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) If individual scripts for seperate scenarios are in seperate folders, won't we end up with hundreds of semi-redundant files? Is the custom graphic format as screwed-up as the last one? There won't be any .meg files sitting alongside our scenarios; it isn't even a proper file format; will there? We can use .gifs or something, can't we? Also, we'll be able to put a lot more scenarios in our folder, right? Like I won't have to move scenarios into a seperate "Unused Scenarios" folder, creating hundreds of redundant files because the program has a screwy limit of 20 scenarios? Are the scripts compiled into the one file at the end? Personally I'd prefer to have a small number of files rather than hundreds for each scenario. Or do you have a seperate folder called "Scripts", from which all scenarios can access the same scripts? If it's like this will we still be able to edit the scripts from within the editor itself? Although my Blades of Exile folder is actually full of hundreds of megabytes of crap that I downloaded years ago. My prime example, by the way, of the succinct small number of larger files vs. hundreds of worthless small ones is that while the Mac version of Lemmings uses five files in total including the program, the Windows version uses five hundred. We won't need OS X to run the program, will we? And now I think of it: will the editor be fully hotkey featured so that we can press buttons or hold modifiers to get other tools? I found the placement system in BoE a bit tedious. And will the windows that open be "friendly": ie. you can move them as well as be able to access menus behind them, as was not in BoE? Will we have to open windows to edit item/monster info. This was very tedious. And to go back to a question I asked a while back: will I be able to create Escher Staircases, i.e. alter the vertical level of staircases? No! 999 is more æsthetic! Besides, it's the British emergency number. As far as Khoth may have been concerned, he was like an emergency (doo i maik sens)... And he was the upside-down devil... just as Djur was when he left that first account and made a big long post about goodbyes and how much he hated/liked/would miss about various Spidweb members. And now Khoth's on 1001, which is symmetrical ;) I wonder what I'm on... -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) Your political compass Economic Left/Right: -6.62 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.31 Near Nelson Mandela, just like most of Spidweb's other population. Anyone else noticed the Spidweb and Southwest share initials. Can everyone stop having big long meaningless rants? Is [the guy who posted before me whose name begins with an "m"] from Korea? edit: Read his "from" thing with www.omniglot.com, which has all sorts of writing systems from around the world-it says "myeong-lang-han ngoang, [chinese]". I have no idea what it means, especially the chinese part. I've done my share of exercise for today: I was curling this morning for my school team. It's really difficult: more than people think. You have to stretch a lot. I've been doing it since September and I'm pretty much only just getting the hang of throwing the stone with the correct weight. Anyway, last time I did press-ups was when I was forced to do rugby on Thursdays or Wednesday (at least three years ago). We were doing it on the bare grass and mud; I think it was some kind of punishment; and I struggled to do five. -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!)
