This is my 2000th post on these forums. I'd like to thank the following people for helping me get this far:

- oldbies, for sticking around this long and giving me people to converse with. Posting without an audience gets old fast.
- newbies, for providing fresh perspectives and/or target practice.
- the good people of India and the Middle East, for creating the Hindu-Arabic numerical system and thereby standardising base 10 arithmetic, thus rendering the number two thousand noteworthy and significant. If we'd settled on base 12 instead, I'd be waiting another one thousand four hundred and fifty-six posts for this topic.

My first post was on Misc somewhere, probably in one of the political topics.

I have nothing much to add to this topic except to say that this is officially the best topic title ever.

The standard way of doing sneaking-into-a-building in BoE was to make the town hostile and/or make a monster encounter show up when the party steps in a location where they can be spotted. This alone will give you the sneaking flavour well enough, although of course you can build on that basic formula in various ways with a little imagination -- requiring the party to time their movements to avoid patrols, forcing them to avoid/disarm traps and alarms, etc.

My point was that denigrating the CEO of Microsoft does nothing to make Macs look better. If Macs are the better computer, they can stand on their own merits without needing to make frankly irrelevant attacks on Bill Gates.

PNGs are generally good, but file size can be a little unpredictable and some people can't use them.

TM has a Mac, so .sit should be fine for compression.

You could try getting the Crystal of Purity instead. That's not as far back.

GIF is a good format to send graphics in. JPG is a bad idea as it tends to ruin fine detail.

I believe it's mentioned somewhere in Avernum 1 that it doesn't normally rain in the caves, except in a few odd areas where large amounts of water evaporate due to volcanic activity.

Community consensus is that the setting of Avernum is a planet named Ermarian. This isn't canonical, but you risk being shouted down if you break with tradition for no good reason.

That's what I thought as well, but it'd require some pretty weird geography to get the water all the way back to the surface. Volcanoes might do it, if you don't mind the idea that there are volcanoes somewhere on the surface constantly spewing steam into the air.

You know, if you graph one of them so it's a smooth curve, of course the other one's going to look jaggy by comparison. You're presupposing that CSR always gets it right. :P

I suppose you could make a whole new shop each time you want the items to change, and then have the shop go out of business altogether once you get bored of making new shops.

Uh, those aren't very good directions. The room you want to be in is his private chamber, which I'm pretty sure is a little north of the crystal room. It may be a room you've been to before.

Killing absolutely everyone gets you the unaligned ending, which is arguably the best ending if you're unmodified and still pretty good if you're modified.

WTF

That's like saying every novel set in the 1950s should somehow involve Adolf Hitler.

That's what we mean. And the sounds you want to play are in fact 49 and 50, the footstep sounds.
