Why was it necessary to revive a two-week-old topic for the sake of a two-sentence post?

Your computer is too new. Try turning on compatibility mode. If that doesn't work, get an old second-hand computer at a swap meet.

The problem is there's no scripting call to create a character.

That almost certainly is the issue. It's a bug that shows up some but not all of the time, for reasons that aren't obvious. See if moving one of the stairways helps.

I live in Australia. It's been a few years since I ordered anything from SW by mail, so I don't remember exactly, but you can expect to wait a month or so.

In Exile 2 it's in the Options menu under "See Overall Stats". Exile 1 doesn't seem to have it at all.

I believe hardiness in Avernum actually works the same way as armor. The damage blocked per physical attack is 1dH, where H is your hardiness level. So if you have a hardiness of 10, 1-10 damage is deducted from every hit you take.

quote:
Assassination: The chance to assassinate is determined by both skill level and how many levels you are above the enemy. Does anyone know the percentage chance? I'm using, as of right now, 4% per skill level, as well as +/- 4% for every level you are above/below the opponent.
No idea what the actual percentages are, but that doesn't sound unreasonable. Of course, it means you'll assassinate a lot against low-level enemies even if your assassination skill is very low, but that happened in the original games too.

quote:
Mage and Priest Spells: It says that spells get more powerful as you raise your skills; I'm thinking maybe adding +5% per skill level to the effect of the spell, if there's a percentage chance of it working(like Curing), bonuses to the damage of a spell, like +1, +2, increase die type, etc(same goes for Healing), stuff like that.
Doesn't sound unreasonable. In BoA, Intelligence, Mage/Priest Spells and Magery are all basically equivalent in terms of their effect on spell power (although of course, Mage Spells and Priest Spells only affect their respective spell groups).

quote:
Potion Making: How's 25% + 5% per skill level?
Well, in BoA, the chance of success is 50% if your skill is exactly enough to make the potion, and seems to increase based on some weird formula after that. There's also a chance to make 2 doses of a potion from one set of ingredients if your skill is really high; don't know if you want to implement that.

quote:
Tool Use: I'm thinking 30% + 5% per skill level.
With bonuses and penalties for easy or difficult tasks as appropriate, of course.

quote:
First Aid: How about 30% + 4% per skill level.
First Aid isn't really very good in BoA. You'll probably need to rebalance it yourself to make it useful.

The Might and Magic series of RPGs included an aging system (which gradually lowered your stats after around age 60, and randomly killed your characters off after around age 80), but also included various ways to magically rejuvenate your characters. That might be the best of both worlds, if you really expect your game to take years of game time to finish.

For an idea of what's meant by "obscenely high", using two SDFs allows 65536 ticks, which is just over 13 days. Using a third SDF would allow you over 3000 days, which is hopefully more than you'll ever need.

No; names have to be specifically registered as trademarks. It's pretty unlikely that Jeff bothered to register Nepharim or Vahnatai.

I believe you can find them on corpses somewhere; I'm afraid I don't remember any more detail than that. But if your tool use is high enough, you don't need them anyway.

There may be a misunderstanding of BoA terminology going on here; a question is the party's response. The response to a question is the response of the NPC you're talking to. Look at the dialogue scripts of existing scenario to see how it's done.

Also I thought I had followed the instructions for making a scenario exit.
Can you call scripts? Can you make a simple dialog box? I am asking to determine whether your problem lies specifically in the call you're using or is something more basic.

P.S. Did I just miss the link to 3D editor for WINDOWS or are they for MAC only. It would be EVER SO MUch faster if it was done in 3D.
Mac only. And keep in mind they're not supported by Jeff Vogel (although in a year or two the standard editor won't be supported either.)

You make a good point. In fact, a personality disorder can only be considered a disorder if it causes significant subjective distress or interferes with daily life. The aim of therapy, typically, is to turn a personality disorder into a personality style.

I read too many psychology textbooks.

This a known and really peculiar bug that the editor's maker is unable to replicate. Apparently some people have had luck fixing the bug by downgrading to an older version of the 3D editor.
