Pylons can be destroyed by staying one step outside their attack range. Start with acid and pile it on until they are gone. Even in torment you can get 3 pylons before needing to go back to Fort Remote to recharge. Maybe summoned creatures might close and block the regeneration. Freezing golems are the worst, but with summoned creatures you can even deal with them. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

We probably will get a new creation in the higher levels, but not something as unbalanced as an unbound. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

First you need to consider if you're playing straight through as a mage using spell caster or will go Anama. I tried a character that split into an Anama version and have gotten into the Giant Caves section before I stopped to play A5. Both routes work well, but you need weapons by the end of the Isle of Bigail. Intelligence is a must for someone that uses spells. Ice lances at the start speeds up the fighting. Once you get level three war blessing you don't need haste. Put points into strength instead of swords or pole weapons. That way you can use the radiant slith spear versus the null bugs and their antimagic area effect. Then you can switch later to swords when you get a better weapon. Also it increases your carrying capacity for the Roach Factory. You can always pick a weapon later in the game. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Too bad Jeff doesn't want to do another game with plenty of non-linear exploring in addition to a linear quest. In trying to make his games more balanced to current party level he no longer wants to use party death as a limiting factor in exploration. Personally I always found that this was a good way to tell when you have exceeded your current level and need to turn back. He could bring back puzzles and have a combat route through the same area for players that don't want to think. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I'll go with something Delicious Vlish proposed a martial arts themed game. Something along the lines of the Monastary of Madness from Exile/Avernum 3 in combat style with less magic than most of the games. Unarmed combat could dominate along with all those bad movie inside joke references. Otherwise a sci-fi theme where puzzles returned where some thinking is involved. It's buff and heal. It helps if you also use cold resistance items. Move the highest health characters up to pin the testing shade away from the weaker spell casters. This test is probably the hardest since you want to fight and have to just sit there and take it. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

The Exile version was worse because after fighting my way into the hidden altar and looting the place, I thought I'll just rest up before heading out. Coming out of the secret door was wall to wall rats waiting for me. There went all the replenished energy to clear the horde. Avernum is hack and retreat. You never want to get low on health and mana. Even if you survive the monsters, there is always a chance of a random encounter on the way back to town. This is becoming a text book example for Frontline's next episode on Tuesday, "Growing Up Online." You people need to get offline more. Except maybe Salmon who gets into too much trouble out there. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I need to go down to Tech Support and get an Acme Anvil Dropping kit. If I can't work magic, at least I can mimic X's spell. This last chapter doesn't hook and reel me in as much as the last one. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

quote:It comes from Jeff's emails to beta testers. He has some other choice remarks about us. My favorite is that anyone who plays his games on torment is not a casual gamer. I think that testers are used more for catching errors and less for setting game difficulty level. You should hear Jeff cheering the monsters on in some encounters during testing, then making it easier in the final version after all our difficulties. The problem doesn't usually show up during beta testing because the jaded testers don't use cheats that often. We're supposed to find a way to defeat all the monsters, so we don't use the kill all. The back to start/exit zone one does get used more often to save time returning to a place to sell everything, but there are only a few places where it really messes up the game. Exitzone cheat in the north part of the Fens opens up Burwood before you're supposed to get there and that messes up the game. You really need to go back to an earlier game if you want the full experience. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

As a Celt you cast the spell sever seal to go along the west path. As a Roman you can't cast spirit spells. This also allows you to reach a tablet in the Circle Warrens. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Titus is hiding in the Circle Warrens to the east of the road to the Hollow Hills before you cross the bridge. He then flees to another place to the north of the Faerie Bazaar. I'm not sure what grove message you are refering to. The large grove south of Vanarium has druids guarding a patch of alchemical herbs. It's hard to find the path to them. Each grove of trees usually has something in it. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

In the original game it filled up your packs with trash. Consider it a useless application of magic. Most Sylak items don't really help. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Avernum/Exile 3 and a few Blades scenarios with timers are the only places where you can't take your time. It's amazing how many places have battles frozen in time until you appear. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

You got a politician trying anything to clear his name so he can stay in power. This is getting to be a stretch since while you should have reasonable expectations of privacy within the stall, when you interact with the next stall you are no longer private. Almost all of it consists of questions about how to do a scenario, scenario contests, beta calls for testing scenarios, scenario releases, and setting up Blades chats. We tried to bump the best of what remains and the rest is archived. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

First aid until you reach A4 is almost useless. It only stacks for the one character and you need several levels not to damage the character being healed and it only works a limited number of times a day. Don't spend skill points in it. Luck varies but is usually helpful. It increases resistances, armor, and several other abilities. In some games it increases the chance of dropped treasure. Hardiness acts like armor, but I'm not sure if it's a straight increase or just a chance for each point of hardiness that it'll work. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |
