You capitalize "he?" Are you suggesting Jeff Vogel is a god? Many here would not disagree.

Thanks for reminding me that Danette was the one who started it all. I was really trying to think of it a few days ago.

Something a little more RTS-geared would be cool. Like, maybe you get to go exploring. And choose one of three places to establish a camp. And this alters the game. I love things that force you to play through multiple times. Commanding troops is a must. And prequels. I love prequels. Suggested playing as Trajkov prior to the Sucia Expedition. I'd REALLY like to play as a Sholai, without the Shapers being in the game too much.

Speaking of the Sholai, in GF1 they say they're from a cold place, right? But the GF3 guy says it's tropical ...

change shaper graphics? in Geneforge Series

Altering PC graphics requires lots and lots of time, but nothing more advanced than MS Paint.

Doing something like giving the agent long swaying hair, or the townspeople potbellies would be easier and more worthwhile. It's also fun to change static graphics (I did the boat). No reason not to turn blood pools into banana peels and impaled skulls into colorful balloons.

There are other more profane things one can do to the graphics that I have chosen not to describe.

Assorted ground-based creations. I will now spontaneously think of names for them: the muscular one can be a Flaahk (a tailless Glaahk?). The two-legged thing with a tail on its head is a Flitch. And the freak on the bottom is a Vone.

EDIT: the on with the tail on its head has four legs. Mercy, me. The next post, by the way, will be #200.

Geneforge 4 spells in Geneforge Series

Ohhhh yeah ... although it wasn't fun to hit the "use item" button and then the lever ... 14 times. There should be an Unlock dialogue with a picture of the lock (as I like pictures), and a description (I like those too). Then your choices, as with a conversation:

1. Attempt to unlock it with Living Tools.
2. Attempt to unlock it with magic.

Number one would lead to either "You are skilled enough to successfully pick the lock." or "You do not have enough Living Tools to pick the lock." The latter would give you the option to compensate for the lack of tools with magic.

Number two would lead to either "You are skilled enough to successfully break the lock" or "You are not skilled enough to successfully break the lock." The latter would give you the option to compensate for the lack of magic with tools.

Make any sense? For the sake of example, say each point of lock difficulty costs you 10 essence/spell energy. Imagine a lock with a difficulty of 20. You have 15 tools and 150 essence/energy. You might use them all and 50 essence/energy. Or, you might use all your magic and 5 tools to help out.

So 1 Living Tool is equivalent to 10 essence/energy. And we don't even need to fill a slot with the Unlock spell. Agreeable?

I personally do not like the categorization of spells as it is now.

I also am anti-Unlock. But only because it does not give you experience, while Tools do. The reason people are ending up with masses, heaps, and bounties of Living Tools is that one cannot see one lying there and leave it. They're pretty valuable, for exp or for money.

You should be able to use Living Tools in conjunction with Unlock. So if the spell isn't enough, you can use a few Tools to help out. That makes it unreasonable not to use the spell but also beneficial to collect tools. Unless you explicitly avoid locked doors, everybody wins.

The most useful characteristic of Drayks is their ability to burn down Rotghroths in a turn or two. With the projectile attack, I mean.

The Geneforge's "instructions" state that, one the user has been altered, he will be able to SWIM in the pool. So couldn't you, perhaps, drink it? That would be tasty. Everything you were to touch would be taken apart from the genes, I suppose.

Extremely so.

Nice that we could convert someone to be forum-savvy by his tenth post! And just the next thread over I was whining about him. Sorry, sharx.

Frankly love the idea of moving with aid of creations. Flying would be pretty, well, revolutionary for the Shaper world. "Sea Drayks" were introduced briefly in GF1.

I would like to see more flying creations, though. A bird of some kind or huge wasps, maybe?

Not that I rely on the transient pleasure some get from accusing people of hypocrisy, but ... posting in a three day-old thread doesn't exactly improve your standings with me, sharx; it's just the persistent, annoying type of behavior you're referring to. Before we stereotype you as a weenie, consider what you type before you depress that fateful mouse button.

The game should make the ending less fulfilling, or something, if you cheat ... but then of course, we can't use SDF's to fix logic errors (like Icy End randomly going hostile).

Well. Wasn't speaking from experience. I just recall getting it up to about 15, and everything that wasn't a ridiculous monster died when it hit me. Just assumed it'd continue getting better as it leveled higher.

Seriously? Don't make fun of someone for not being able to spell the name of an obscure fantasy creature. Man.

My relevant reactions:
A) I don't know about Drakons themselves, but Ur-Drakons should be given some magic of their own. Or essence. Something that sets them apart.
B) Yep.
C) Never bothered me. Then again, I make a lousy Shaper.
D) I hate the Fire/Battle/Magic categories. Think there should be some other way to divide up the skills.
E) I love Glaahk. They must be restored to their former glory.
F) Guardians don't really need an advantage. But I don't play the really high difficulies with Guardians. So I don't know.

Speaking of difficulty, I don't think you should be able to change it during the game.

I just had a splendid idea.

Spend all of your skill points on Parry. You should get it up to 16 (actually calculated). Anything that attacks you in melee will die.

You can't just do that from the start of the game, of course; the high incidence of getting hit by low-level enemies' attacks would bring you to your knees. When you have the opportunity to bump it like this (you're already suriving without spending skill points elsewhere) you might as well take advantage.

You can become largely invincible with enough Parry; if it's up in the 20's you can just walk through Gazak-Uss or anywhere with Drakons bouncing off you. Parry was removed from GF3 for that reason.

As I recall, being Awakened cleared the level as soon as I entered. If you're not Awakened, I believe you have to kill everything that moves to clear it. Maybe some serviles or golems left over wouldn't hurt, but Tuldaric must go.

... but why would turning this green mean that much to you? Sense of completion, I suppose?

Puresteel Soul Blade? in Geneforge Series

I seem to recall there being a Puresteel Soulblade held by a Guardian-resembling specter somewhere in Benerii-Uss. It's the same area where you can talk the imprisoned gazers into attacking Akkat with you. Anyway, I got the gazers to smoke the crap out of him, he's to the north of their cell.

Yep, typically with good equipment I will run up maybe 80 lbs on just what I'm wearing. Let's see ... my Agent wears 70.5 lbs of goodies, and the other crap I carry tends to be easily upwards of 50 lbs. But, I'm encumbered at 154 lbs. Then again, when I loaded up that file, she was carrying 195 lbs.

If you have trouble getting encumbered (In Geneforge 3), get a Talisman of Might. Unfortunately, the only means for making one is on an Enchanted Anvil. Ingredients aren't hard to get ...
- Gold Necklace
- Mandrake Tincture
- Demon's Bile
... except, of course, the ...
- Rotghroth Fang
... I believe there are only two or three of these in the game. One is on the Isle of Spears, Southern Gates. There's one in the Monastery Caves, and I believe one in the Monastery of Tears itself. If someone can remind me that'd be good, as it's a submission thorn in my side not being able to get a Rotghroth Fang sooner.

Oh, and all the ingredients must be forged at once. You shouldn't try to purify the necklace (as you would Shaped items).

I was actually surprised by the Gazak-Uss Shaping NW door, it played a big role ... but for GF2 it is sealed tight. As for this door, it's a classic trick of Jeff's. Shame on you for not seeking levers!

In unrelated news, felix has yet to strike here. He's only 13, can't expect him to cover ALL the -- oh, wait.

Edited for one (1) typographical error.

Same situation as Dikiyoba, here, excluding reptile-assisted suicide.

What a spoiler thread this is ...

You have to have the gloves to use it. The Geneforge makes most people afraid of you, and you go berserk around some (just go into combat mode).

Goettsch has the gloves. Trajkov tells you so. But I'm assuming since you didn't already know that, you probably did what everyone does and just went ahead and killed the SOB.

That's Geneforge 2 for sure. It's the only game with Parry, I think, and I can tell by the Guardian and interface graphics. Just to show off, I think the area is the arboretum zone (north of the desert between Fort Gheth and Drypeak) at the west entrance.

Trajkov was one of the game's most interesting characters. I wouldn't mind playing as Trajkov or one of his shipmates in a prequel. It'd be cool, for sure.

Well now we have to ask Esther about her menses.

Incidentally, I just tried to use Lankan's canister in Diki--I mean, Diwaniya's basement. And it hurt me, saying that "this was clearly not meant for Shaper use." So perhaps they are different.
