I had a Guardian and -- even though I used the Geneforge -- got through the Shaper Crypt in maybe an hour. Inner Crypt is pretty much a mad dash to collect stuff amidst fire pits and battle gammas.

But in the original Geneforge -- did you ever find out the BIG SECRET? If so just make a sign in the affirmative as opposed to talking about it. Because it's quite a big secret.

[EDIT] Now I'm curious how many people know about it ... see corresponding thread.

Oh. Oh damn right. I like the Stalin quote, as well.

Most forums are very liberal (not unlike activist college campuses of the 70s). Why the sudden crackdown on political opinion? If I didn't know better, I'd think The Establishment was being sarcastic. Really did at first ... :( Don't like such turmoil.

Far east end of Sucia Island. Only adjacent zone is Icy Tunnels. There are some guards at the east exit of that zone; you can scare them into letting you by (just tell them that you killed Trajkov), or just kill them.

That referred to selling your items to the shop owners. In which case it doesn't matter who you sell them to, they all pay the same low rates.

SPOILER: The servant mind shrieks with all its remaining life and the guards run to see what's going on. You can run for the boat. If you used the Geneforge, though, you might as well slaughter the guards. It's fun.

Character Names in Geneforge Series

Apart from using the default names, as I never used to care, I named my Shaper Aleister. I don't know what brought it on, or even recall doing so. My guess is that the default, Esther, got messed up a bit in my stupor. But it's kind of a cool name, isn't it?

Andras is the Welsh variant of Andrew, from Greek Andreas. It's a combination of "aner" and "andros" ("man" and "of man" respectively). Probably not significant.

Dakro has no meaning whatsoever. Kind of masculine. Good for a Guardian.

Esther is Persian for "star," derived from Ishtar (a Hebrew Goddess). Queen Esther, in the book of Esther, saves a lot of jews from racial persecution. Most likely chosen for "star" significance.

Alwan could be derived from Alwyn -- a form of Alvin -- from Ælfwine -- which means "elf friend" in old English (ælf is elf, wine is friend). This one Jeff probably made up without reference.

Greta is a modern (although not popular) name -- short for Margaret -- derived from Greek, Margarites, which means "pearl." Probably chosen based on the modern equivalent.

[EDIT] Oh, and I name my creations Rex. No matter what type, it's the best name ever. Most fitting for Fyora or Roamers though.
...
"Get 'im, Rex!!"

Dreams in General

I had a strange dream. Sexual, as usual. Didn't get too far, so the kids can stay.

My girlfriend had gotten really huge. Not fat, but blown up like a balloon. Try to imagine this. She was trying to kiss me a lot. I couldn't hold her still or something. The dream ended with no specific events. Moral: I still like the girl?

Sex dream number two: I had just moved into a new house and thought the neighbor was hot. In the dream, I was making out with and undressing her. All the new neighbors were watching. It was on a bench in a gym or something. When I unbuttoned her shirt, I saw a hairy man-chest and woke up, confused. Meaning: don't have sex with your neighbor.

I had a few recurring dreams when I was younger (single digit years):

A gray cat with black stripes attacked my house. It could change from the size of a normal cat to the size of the house. Very green eyes. As it scared me, I hid in a heating duct under the floor. With the grate on, it couldn't fit in there. Unsure of meaning.

I accidentally pulled the skin off my dad's abdomen, and you could see all his organs, which were brightly colored like in an anatomy book. We both just kind of stared into the open cavity for a while. Unsure of meaning.

The aforementioned house was under attack again, this time by a single Tyrannosaurus rex. I sat in the control chair of -- no joke -- a steam shovel whose arm could fire red-and-white checkered torpedoes from the shovel. These were used to defeat the dinosaur. Very masculine dream. Childhood testosterone rush?

Pool party. Everyone is having a great time. I get out of the pool to discover I'm naked. I'm shocked, but no one notices. I try to run but realize, there are few places that can hide nudity. Unable to get home, don't know any of the people. Message: I feel like I don't fit in, but other people don't notice.

Who here has seen Loose Change? You should all see it. Worth your time. I watched it last months, and had not seen footage of the attacks since I watched it live.

I understand something like 50,000 to 100,000 people die each day on earth. It's not as though I can stop to mourn them. The difference with 9-11 is that it was premeditated. There are things we don't know about it. It has to do with the government. A small action caused a significant amount of death, and people want to know why. I can't name one person who died in those attacks. But I want to know the whole story. There's just someone trying to play god here. When someone dies of malnourishment, it's pretty simple. Not that I don't feel sorry for the starving ... hate to sound so right-wing in this, I'm typically not at all.

You're down to selling to special characters (that only take gems, iron etc). If you really depleted all the shops of coins, that's just how it is. Can't imagine why you'd even need more money, though ... even trainers can't cost that much.

Don't worry. All GF3 traders have bottomless pockets.

Okay, I retract that. Instead, play Trajkov in the events leading up to the PC's arrival on Sucia.

Geneforge: the Forging of the Sholai

Yeah. You could destroy Lankan's canister... I think you should be able to pick up other canisters and carry them with you. Even if they weigh ten pounds or something, it's worth selling them to "crazed canister junkies."

Three Questions of GF2 in Geneforge Series

Kind of a spoiler:

The Gazak-Uss gate has a special panel on one of the nearby pillars you must press. But you can't find it without "knowing" about it first. The nearby hermit tells you something like that.

The research notes are worth a little to sell ... but I have, before, even without allying with the Barzites, given the notes to the Gheth dude. I open the door, talk to the shaper, give him the notes, and leave before anyone gets mad. Very low success rate. I know that merely opening the door and talking to the shaper won't get anyone mad. Use battle mode, or something.

And I'll confirm Dikiyoba's allegation that the serviles' cure is in Benerii-Uss. Can't remember which zone exactly. Know that it's in a book. Seem to recall the book occupying the southern region of the same zone with two eyebeasts. B-U Shaping, I think.

The serviles' cure is in a book

I was pretty sure we established it's soon after GF3 ... supposed to be the war between rebels and Shapers. The Geneforge itself won't play a big role from what I've heard.

Why doesn't the PC make a Geneforge? A good prequel would have us play as Danette.

So you could call a canister addict "jarhead?" It's like, a pun, a war allusion, and it makes sense.

There were lots of pronoun discrepencies. Don't worry about it. I think Trace, in Rising, in GF2, was one of those referred to be both "he" and "she."

And yeah, Learned Darian needs to die. Maybe (s)he'll have some remaining followers?

I think I remember reading that you can't reverse the disabling of the cheats. But I may be wrong.

Either way, if you reinstall the game, it should work out. Back up your save files, if you want.

Can't see why yo disabled it to begin with, though ...

If there's a new spawner graphic, it should have tentacles. I'm thinking, ditch the past description of tentacles out the top, and use the barfing stump with some tentacles randomly coming out of it. If anyone has seen Dikiyoba's Slime Beast, something like that.

[EDIT] Okay I'm thinking that, even though the games say the spawners manipulated essence to shape, I'm thinking a tentacled one would be best.

I have wished many times to have a long robe.

Not a jacket like "The Matrix" followers would wear, not a trenchcoat. A Shaper cloak.

I think I'm drunk.

I don't like being able to just create Ur-Drakons when it takes years of research to create a pool to transform just one existing powerful Drakon. In fact I think Drakons should be removed altogether. [EDIT] I mean, removed from the PC being able to SHAPE THEM. they're their own race.

What got me is that in GF3 the textual description includes tentacles. But the barfing stump (I love that term) doesn't have any!

... what about the new thahd? I kind of like it, just a bit too spotted for me though.
