No Harm Done: The Question of Morality in General | |

The only thing I would like to point out (for now--I'm still pondering the article) is that, whether logical or not, some people find certain words offensive. Hearing those words would be harmful to those people in the sense that it makes them uncomfortable. So swearing shouldn't automatically be okay everywhere. There's a difference between swearing occasionally and swearing at least twice every sentence. There's a difference between swearing around your friends at home and swearing at a busy restaurant. (As I am a person who is bothered by profanity, I don't buy your argument that people "choose" to be offended. If I were at a restaurant and I could overhear the people at the next table swearing constantly, it would bother me. I might even develop a headache if it continued long enough. I can't change that.) Dikiyoba agrees with critically evaluating morals, though. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

No one's forcing you to read the thread, either. It's quite clearly marked that it has to do with physics, so you had to know what the thread was about. If it doesn't look interesting, just ignore it. Dikiyoba. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

The trainers can raise the create battle alpha skill up to the max, but you still won't be able to create a battle gamma. However, it might be possible to edit the scripts and turn the battle beta into a battle gamma (for those who really, really want that battle gamma). I just made my battle beta glow, and that's really the only difference between those two creations, anyway. Dikiyoba was more struck by the realization that it's possible to make Dikiyoba's Shaper actually glow after using the Geneforge or many, many canisters. I scavenge everything and still have some problems with money in G2, because I buy all the training and spells. But I wouldn't cheat to get money, because that would take away some of the fun of the game. Dikiyoba. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Since this is back up, I'll just say that I recently finished Nineteen Eighty-Four (George Orwell) and We (Yevgeny Zamyatin). Dikiyoba is now starting Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. -------------------- Episode 4: Spiderweb Reloaded Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Typically, though, my edits are the last thing in my post. Of course, Dikiyoba typically doesn't include useful information in edits. However, Dikiyoba thinks that is beside the point. As opposed to above or below it. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

The one advantage of a UBB PM over e-mail is that there can be up to 21 replies in a single, organized thread as opposed to having 21 scattered e-mails. Originally by wagginpitbull: quote:I typically don't use the "Make inactive" option, but I can see uses for it--for instance, in making absolutely sure that Phariton doesn't see that I've taken his battle alpha in G2, or for keeping my creations out of the way while I try to disable mines. I would have liked to use it in G1 to keep my creations away from the damaging floors. None of those are situations where I'm likely to end up in combat (and I typically want my creations by me when in combat), so I don't have a complaint against the way it works. At least you can keep the creation from accidentally catching up to you (or worse, triggering a combat while catching up to you) while it is inactive. Dikiyoba hasn't found a use for a creation controlled by AI except for the principle of allowing it to be free and doing whatever it wants. But that principle breaks down as soon as combat ends and the creation follows your every move again. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

I meant that certain spammish individuals would be surprised to discover their position and exact number of posts on the 17th, not that there wouldn't be anything on the 17th because Arancaytar had been captured by space aliens. I have more faith in the Ermarian bot than that! Dikiyoba also suspects that Arancaytar had an abduction bot ready for when the space aliens came. In fact, he probably has a bot for every aspect of his life--the Runescape bot, the blog bot, the take-college-finals bot, the steal-Dikiyoba's-gimmick bot, the Cthulhu-worshipping bot, the Big Brother bot, the NationStates bot, and the Aranbot to keep track of them all. The real Arancaytar is probably off frolicking in innocence and bliss somewhere. Or else working as a powerful wizard in some fantasy world. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Just because something is in quotes doesn't automatically mean that it was actually said. If a quote seems funny, it probably is. (Especially if it has a FYT after it.) Jumpin' Salmon said it. Dikiyoba will let Jumpin' Salmon explain why, though. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |
