quote:Mr Posh Spice (Beckham) is the Paris Hilton of football - famous for being famous. :P The English team played better for most of the match. Sweden became more active in the second half, continuing to rise from the weaker previous matches. The WC 2006 is more commercial than ever. Here there are some gimmicky special offers of the type "buy this overpriced LCD TV and get your money back if Sweden wins the tournament!" Also, you supposedly can't film your own videos of the games on site. The RoboCup 2006 also took place in Germany. How many years will it take for robots to become better than humans? The Soviet bloc was an example of a mafia dictatorship's failure and its transformation into a nominally capitalist mafia society. Socialism + democracy is something that has not been tested in any developed country. The closest thing might be 1980s Scandinavia. Posts: 950 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

The worst and most Americanised Eurocrap contest I've seen so far. The Americans are still best at being American. The Greek nationalism was sort of amusing, too - for example, instead of videos presenting the contestant countries, they showed Greek tourism commercials and some smiling Greek...models. Thuryl, the contest itself may be old, but the songs can still remind a viewer of more modern contests. The French hairdresser/singer in particular reminded me of some dreadful karaoke stuff. Memorable participants: Lithuania, for mocking the contest by singing "We are the winners of Eurovision". They came in 4th place, if I recall correctly. Finland, for being different. Ukraine, for having the hottest singer, albeit not the most scantily clad one. Posts: 950 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

I thought about this recently, making a comparison with sleep. We don't remember dreamless sleep - how do you experience being unconscious? My thought was that if you cannot experience the (presumed) nonexistence after death, your subjective experience might get stuck in the moment of death, i.e., you experience yourself dying extremely slowly, ever more slowly...forever. Eternal death, or eternal dying, actually. Sounds pleasant, doesn't it? Posts: 950 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

quote:You know, some people consider hebephilia to be distinct from pedophilia. :P Some people apply the "consenting adults" rule to zoophilia as well, claiming that animals can't give meaningful consent, hence it is immoral to have sex with them. However, animals don't have the same legal rights as humans have; animals are used in medical experiments and slaughtered without their consent, too EDIT: Come to think of it, the thing that I find scariest about pedophiles and zoophiles alike isn't their peculiar fetishes, but the fact that they have little or no interest in emotional or physical intimacy with adult humans. If His Jeffiness actually makes some more character graphics, as promised, the Averforge 4 graphics might just catch up with the earlier Avernum graphics. I wouldn't mind seeing the graphics of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, though. ;) Posts: 950 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

I once saw a Swedish TV documentary on the custom of giving people convicted to death a last meal. A particularly gruesome case was when the last meal was...the person herself. The victims were slowly cut to pieces and fed their lavishly prepared flesh. This was illustrated metaphorically by rotating kebab meat (don't know what it's called - the thing they slice meat off). Not sure how long it lasted or what the actual cause of death would have been - infection, blood loss or something else? I also don't remember when or where this took place, but it might have been in medieval Asia, and the victim(s) was perhaps a group plotting to overthrow the ruler, or a wife caught cheating on him.
