Football at its best. If you still don't like football after a match like that then you are helpless.

Yeah, they were show-stoppers all right, I'm looking forward to the inevitable game versus Brazil. I hope there are no injuries between then and now, but Argentina held two world class goal scoring players on the bench as substitutes for the entire game. I just hope the Czech team lives up to their end of the bargain. I want to see that final!

I'm watching the match USA - Italy. It seems that the Italians are doing too much goals.

It seems that the referees hate America.

But I suppose a tie with two men down isn't all that bad...

No, I dont care. I don't like football, so I don't hate USA. ;)

Simply, it was a joke bacause Italy did a auto-goal.

Well, it helps that Italy had to play with ten men.

And complaining about referees ought to be its own sport.

Bruce Arena seemed almost smug in the post-game news conference. Same with Landon Donovan. God forbid the team actually score a goal. That will make them unbearable!

Australia goes down 2-0 to Brazil. In my opinion, the contest was a lot tighter than the scoreline would suggest. The Australian team were finding holes in Brazil's defense, they just couldn't capitalise.

On their performances so far, I'm predicting that Australia will get through to the Quarterfinals. :)

Australia lost to Brazil, Croatia and Japan had a nil-all draw. I didn't pay attention to anything else. :P

Also, I hope Ecuador cuts through the weak German defense and take top spot of GROUP A. Then we should have a mouth watering clash between GROUP A runner-ups Germany and GROUP B winners England.
Three-nil. Oh, well, you can always hope that the English underperform.

Go Germany.

Hoorah!

I'm glad we don't have to face Brazil in the final pool match. Croatia will be a pushover. :)

Italy versus Rep. Ceca (don't know English translation :P ...) today! My Mom said: "We will win, surely."

Then we will win. :D

Mr Posh Spice (Beckham) is the Paris Hilton of football - famous for being famous. :P

The English team played better for most of the match. Sweden became more active in the second half, continuing to rise from the weaker previous matches.

The WC 2006 is more commercial than ever. Here there are some gimmicky special offers of the type "buy this overpriced LCD TV and get your money back if Sweden wins the tournament!" Also, you supposedly can't film your own videos of the games on site.

The RoboCup 2006 also took place in Germany. How many years will it take for robots to become better than humans?

And now Owen is gone. Didn't have much hope for England to begin with, with them underperforming so far. Provides an excuse for the (coming) round of 16 exit.

Ecuador has a chance, they used substitutes against Germany, England won't have it so easy. Vamos Ecuador!

Huh?

England won their way into the 2nd stage. They are still in the world cup, and the absence of Michael Cole does not mean they are going to sit on their thumbs and stop playing soccer. I'm not convinced they have much of a chance in the round of eight, but counting them gone at this point is far too hasty.

That would upset my brazen prediction. Czech must win. :P

As far as the Group E/F matches coming up next, all I can say is that at least they matter. Groups C and D were not much to watch.

Michael Owen injured his knee, and will be out for possibly six months - the remainder of the cup, for sure.

God could have injured his knee for all I care. The point remains that there are numerous other outstanding players on the pitch.

Ecuador will take them. The Germany game didn't mean anything.

Yes, but Owen is an excellent player, and anything to weaken the side is good for other countries. I'm not saying that he is their only good player, but his injury does not help England.

In other news, Australia drew with Croatia! We are through to the round of sixteen, thanks to Brazil's 4- 1 win over Japan. We have a danger match against Italy on Monday.

I'll eat my hat if Ecuador win. And film it for you guys.

Spring: Owen isn't all that good. He was awful at Real Madrid, and not much better at Newcastle. He's plagued by injurires, and his goal-scoring record isn't that hot either.

England, though, have no real strikers. Sure, Joe Cole and Lampard and Gerrard may get the occassional goal, but we're leaving Crouch with the burden of hitting the net every game. And that is something I'd rather do without.

Oh, and for people who haven't been able to watch all of the games, maybe we should make a list of teams that made it through to the next round?
