Almost as good as Senegal-France in 2002. Did you actually watch the game? Posts: 950 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

Allow me to diplay my complete and total lack of surprise. I'm more concerned about the Cardinals, who in two games managed to give up 33 runs against the White Sox... at least I know the Cardinals have a chance of doing well. That said, way to go Ghana! Here's to an African team making it past the first round! (Granted, I think Angola still has a chance, but it's going to take some great luck) Too bad about Ivory Coast, though... -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. Does Bruce Arena keep his job? The U.S. team had talent, but the formations were unhelpful, the spirit was low, and there were some costly errors. The first problem (and to some extent the second) can be blamed on the coach. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:Yeah, no kidding. It's rediculous. But if you think about it, scoring 5 or 6 runs a game is pretty average for their offense, but they also usually only allow 3 or 4. Maybe Mr. Reyes can do better. -------------------- -ben4808 Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

33 runs! Wow - even the Nats have a better defense than that. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

This is no shock. The US isn't allowed to win on European soil - it's a fact. England, however... -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Posts: 1582 | Registered: Wednesday, November 13 2002 08:00 |

Well done to Ghana. A shame that they will be playing against Brazil, however... AUSTRALIA ARE THROUGH! Edited. [ Thursday, June 22, 2006 14:28: Message edited by: Sprung ] -------------------- I'll put a Spring in your step. Posts: 2396 | Registered: Saturday, January 29 2005 08:00 |

At what point did "drew" become synonomous with "won"? We should have won, though. That referee is a retard. I mean, how can you give someone three yellow cards?? EDIT: And hooray for Ghana! Well, we won our way through. :P And I agree with you about the referee. Two penalties that should have been paid were ignored. -------------------- I'll put a Spring in your step. Posts: 2396 | Registered: Saturday, January 29 2005 08:00 |

The ref invented a foul inside the penalty box in the U.S.-Ghana game that resulted in the decisive goal. It was pretty bad. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! Football is that way. A guy falls down and suddenly you have a yellow card or penalty kick going against you. Its ridiculous really. Perhaps what's worse is the way the players act after supposedly being fouled. I mean really, do you need that stretcher to get off the field. Do you really need to sit there crying for several minutes. Suck it up and stop being such a pansy! As for Ghana that's awesome I just hope they can pull out a win against Brazil. -------------------- The Knight Between Posts. Posts: 2395 | Registered: Friday, November 2 2001 08:00 |

I knew the TV stations would never commit to broadcasting all the World Cup games in which the US played if they thought we had a chance. The airtime lost on soccer would be an unbearable price for them. In all seriousness, though, I wanted the US to finally win in some international competitions instead of crowning its own sports champions as international ones. But unfortunately, the US has not had a good history at all with soccer in the past few years. Not long ago the US team finished 32nd in the tournament, and scoring only 1 tie point is cutting it awfully close to being dead last again. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. quote:If I am correct, of the 13 teams that have so far been eliminated out of the 32, USA are sitting equal 4th last (with Iran and Trinidad and Tobago). The teams below them are Serbia and Montenegro (-8), Costa Rica (-6) and Japan (-5). The US did nothing to indicate that they are deserving of the cup. Bad luck on the PK, but still, they only scored ONE goal over the three games. That sucks, and they are gone. Hopefully (for the team) that means Bruce Arena is gone as well. His Cup record isn't, ummm, that competative. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I don't like soccer. I'm not exactly fanatical about the World Cup, either. So I don't know why I'm posting in this topic. But just for the sake of it, GO AUSTRALIA!! Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

It's too bad about the Americans. They have some talent and are such underdogs in (men's) soccer. History and all works against them. On the upside, it's good to see an African team through. They have such talent but are really inconsistent at the international level. -------------------- "Dikiyoba ... is demon ... drives people mad and ... do all sorts of strange things."
