Oh sh#t! Is the police doing anything about it? Has he found any clues? Thefts like that are kind of exotic here in Finland, I am not familiar with them. -------------------- "Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." -Sauron Posts: 49 | Registered: Wednesday, June 8 2005 07:00 |

Okay, since Thralni couldn't figure out it by himself, I'll tell the secret of the flying enemy. I have a variable in the script that changes when the monster gets up in the air, and I have created custom terrain types that are invisible and contain the same kind of parameter that makes items on tables appear on them. Then I just create a row of them, each with different parameters, and change them in the creature script depending on the height variable. The limit of how high the creature can rise is the limit of terrain type slots. That is the trick!  I hope nobody has figured it out before me. Also, the imp's battle poses make nice flap substitutes. -------------------- "Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." -Sauron Posts: 49 | Registered: Wednesday, June 8 2005 07:00 |

I think that these problems aren't the fault of the computer, but Blades of Avernum. (No offense, Jeff! :) ) Similar problems occur with almost any program; the problems you described occured on Macs with 800 and 1330 MHz processors, but mine's only 450 MHz, and the game still works like a dream on it. I think that, if you are using new systems like Tiger, the source of Blades of Avernum hasn't got any info about these new systems and therefore is optimized for a different one. (I use Panther, but will upgrade to Tiger when I upgrade to a Mac Mini.) Or if Blades of Avernum has a timer to fix the fps, it might not be fully prepared to the GHz monsters. Of course, all this COULD be a lie. -------------------- "Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." -Sauron Posts: 49 | Registered: Wednesday, June 8 2005 07:00 |

A happy ending! :) . By the way, does anybody know why the print party loc menu item is disabled in Windows? I am working on a scenario, and, with inspiration from Bahssikava, I am going to create lots of interesting features that the game engine was not meant to be capable of (like a flying enemy that actually rises up in the air when it flies (Oops! Shouldn't have told! )). However, several of these things include advanced use of scripting, and there are some things that weren't explained in the manual. I have two questions: When the player moves the party, does the START_STATE in the scenario script run before or after the character moves? The char_loc_x, char_loc_y functions were in the Location and distance calls topic, which told that the functions return invalid values outdoors. Is there any way to return the party's location if being outdoors? -------------------- "Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." -Sauron Posts: 49 | Registered: Wednesday, June 8 2005 07:00 |

I haven't got anything against long topics, it is just awful to hop into one (as I did). You'll normally have to read all replies before you get to know what's going on. However, I didn't, this time. There are still questions: Are you using the editor on the mac, but playing the same scenario package on windows?Because windows has an awful habit to kill the resource fork of every file that has one and is accessable from windows. Thus, Blades of Avernum for windows put the GFX into single files. Or: Are you playing it on a mac?If not, have you exported the pict resources to single bmp files with proper names? If you have followed every rule, but the game still complains, then I can't help you more. :( -------------------- "Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." -Sauron Posts: 49 | Registered: Wednesday, June 8 2005 07:00 |

Two questions: What editor are you using? What application are you using to pack the picts into the resource file?I am using Isaac's 3D editor and ResEdit (in the classic environment) and Gimp, and everything worked fine then. If everything else fails you could try using these too (they're all free, and should be obtained by mere Googling if not found from the scenario development pages). Also, double-check the parameters you're giving in the data file. And please RTFM! (I just get the image that you don't, cuz this topic has > 200 replies, and most of the questions' answers were ones that could be found in the manual.) -------------------- "Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." -Sauron Posts: 49 | Registered: Wednesday, June 8 2005 07:00 |

......Spiderweb Software releases a new game? Do you, immediatly after finishing the previous newest game, remove the other from the dock, download the new game, add it to the dock, and then start playing it, forgetting about the previous game. Are you going to delete the BoA alias when Avernum 4 gets out and start playing it instead? Or are you like me one who doesn't abandon more-than-epic games like BoA until they make a better version, rewrite, or sequel to that more-than-epic game? (Because I doubt that Avernum 4 has a scenario development system available.) -------------------- "Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." -Sauron Posts: 49 | Registered: Wednesday, June 8 2005 07:00 |

I am currently working on my second scenario (see topic Lighting Outdoors??? for details) and I have changed the graphic of the Drake to the Ice Drake, and used an icon adjust of 129 to make it red-hot. I want to adjust the Drake Lord to the same hue, and I have already managed to adjust it to the same hue as the Ice Drake graphic (which I also use, creating an Ice Drake Lord) with the icon adjust of 515, but I can't just append 129 on the end of it (I tried to but the graphic turned into one which looked like a faery dragon). I am not good at calculations of this kind and I don't know the icon adjust function's sorting method well, and I would like to know if you might have done a "detour calculation" and came up with another adjust that is suitable. If you haven't, I will have to use 132, a number I came up with earlier. It is satisfying when working, but the Drake Lord gets an ugly green belly which conflicts with the other drakes and the volcanic environment they live in. -------------------- "Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." -Sauron Posts: 49 | Registered: Wednesday, June 8 2005 07:00 |

That, em, could be an option. But I have already started designing on the outdoor sections. However, I have also created several creature scripts that work best indoors, so maybe I'll try a combination of the two styles, by making a single outdoor section to act more like a map and then jam-pack it with towns. -------------------- "Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." -Sauron Posts: 49 | Registered: Wednesday, June 8 2005 07:00 |

I have recently started to design my second scenario. The project started after I played Bahssikava through (That took a h*ll of a long time, sorry Kelandon) and I was inspired by it when I invented the plot. (There, you go as emissaries to the vahnatai realms and do a quest for them in order to attempt to make peace.) :) I have just finished writing the scenario data file. I have put a light radius of 3 for each of the building terrain types, but when I place the buildings outdoors they cast no light neither in the game nor in the 3D editor! They do cast light indoors, and the whole thing works fine in Avernum 3, but it doesn't seem to work in Blades of Avernum!!  Is it a bug, or has the feature been dropped off the code by purpose?!!   [ Sunday, August 28, 2005 05:40: Message edited by: Omikron ] -------------------- "Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." -Sauron Posts: 49 | Registered: Wednesday, June 8 2005 07:00 |

The character refers to Otto (Me  ) who can be picked from the hut east of the delta. He is a semi-rebel, and should be left at the camp in the deep. (It is not required to finish the game, and you could, of course, try getting him killed by a monster or "accidental" cloud of blades.) -------------------- "Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." -Sauron Posts: 49 | Registered: Wednesday, June 8 2005 07:00 |

Do you mean that I have lost the files or that the keeper of the download site has? Did it really say "luciado" or have you merely mispelt it? Since it is supposed to be luciano ? By the way, at the ironycentral front page there is a text that says "If youre below 18 then get out of here...". Well, I am 13.
