I'm fairly sure someone posted this already. Still, I'm curious to see what his next games (after Nethergate: Ressurection) will be like after this little revelation. Will they be the same or will we actually have some amount of skill to start with?

I found a demo of Geneforge I and Geneforge II, decided to check out Spiderweb, found the forums, liked it, stayed, left, and now I'm back.

Emperor Tullegolar and Co.,
The King who is born into power has to work hard to make himself a beloved figure. He deals with the most public relations, taxes, speeches, rallies, etc. The Prime Minister, who is voted in amongst the House of Represantives, deals with the things that deal with the public, but not directly, controlling the budget, etc. Lastly the President deals with foreign relations, war, diplomacy, aid, etc.

P.S. Before I forget, the terms are as follows. The King serves until he dies, or if he wants to step down to the the Prince, who must be 20 years or older. If the King dies before the Prince is old enough a well liked former president takes his place. The President serves 5 years. The Prime Minister servers 2 years, and the Representatices serve 4 years.

By no means would the corporate or military outweigh the civilians. There would be the representative for the mages, the representative for the navy, and the representative for the army, that would be all the army got. The corporations would get a representative for the three largest businesses. Now considering how large the Shaper Empire is, the civilians would outweigh the military and corporations by quite a bit.

The Senate is responsible for the same things. With majority of 55% percent they can overrule two of the higher leaders. With 75% majority they can overrule all three.

1. Very well, until the king is dead. 2. You have a problem with prerevolutionary France? 3. The king, as well as the prime minister and president, would declare war, control the budget, stamp out rebellion, defend the nation, tell people what they are to be teaching in the schools, etc.

In response to your challenge, I submit this form of government. At the top is a king, who shares equal power with the president and prime minister. The king is born into power, and will be king until his eldest son has reached eighteen. The president is voted in by the people of each province. The prime minister is voted in by the house of representatives. Below these three leaders is the house of representatives, which is has one representative for each major business, branch of the military, and province. Next to this is the supreme court, which is completly identical to the US supreme court.

I was always under the impression that Crystal Souls were not immortal but had extended life. I think you can find it in A3 when asking one of the Crystal Souls what it's like to be a Crystal Soul.

On the topic of the Myst games:
In Myst you find the rooms of the the villains. You find notes, thrones, wine, torture instruments. This gives a character some flavor, although it does not make the character.
In Riven you find the journal of your villain, way for the villain to tell you their feelings with out actually telling you.
In Myst IV you go onto each of the son's prisons and find you find their journals, feel their pain.
In short more personal letters, journals, and investigating the villains environment. These all give a villain more flavor.

To answer your original question Tullegolar, this is how I would do it:

First, R-I, yeah she had to come back, but I wouldn't have made it as big. Her hiding in Motrax's cave with the sea monster plague and some smaller plague of Aranea or something.

Second, the two sons. Have all the cities alligned one way or the other, say Starrus gets the west and Houghton gets the east? A tension building and armies forming, yet no official split yet. Also small conflicts on the border.

Third, the Darkside Loyalists. Of course they would be secretly fueling this division. They would set up these small border conflicts, and themselves setting up attacks on farmlands framing the side that the farmers oppose. Also dare I say it, the Darkside Loyalists to an extent controlling R-I? Oh and lastly the Darkside Loyalists should push on even older rifts, the necromancers and demonologists against the major mage populace, a Sss-Thsss type revolution, a new nephil queen to unite all clans, giants invading Avernum, etc. This is the full potential of the Darkside Loyalists.
