Not to worry. I think the warning was more that you were nearing infringment, not actually infringing. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Somewhat flawed, sure. But what game developer isn't somewhat flawed? I think his games are great, but they're a long way from perfect. Others have done much worse, though. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! "Try [x] games" is essentially solicitation. Those games are not free, merely odd, making the solicitation necessarily commercial. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. The streak of not-being-fooled-by-the-demo continues. A very small percentage of the total number that have registered have thought games were poor or terrible. And who are these three people who registered Galactic Core and thought that it was great?! quote:Based on conversations he's had with Blades designers (dig around in BoA for an early four or five page topic), I'd have to say that plot comes second to gameplay. E3/A3? GF3? By the third installment in a series, he's clearly still working on gameplay and interface, but it's not as clear that he's working on plot. quote:There are those around here who would vehemently disagree with you. I will go only so far as to say that in interviews and his public comments, he talks a lot about money. quote:We're not just paleophiles. We're basing our opinions on Jeff's game-design methods and his public statements. He buys all his graphics from independent sources (generally Andrew Hunter). If he institutes an entirely different engine, he has to buy an entirely new set of graphics — which he has done once before, I might add, going to Nethergate, and sort of again when he went to Geneforge, so it's not out of the question. So yes, it would be more expensive to create a full 3D engine than to stick with the iso-3D that he's got, at least the way that Jeff would do it. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Zeviz: Yes! I've been struggling to articulate what my problem is with the plots of GF2 and GF3 compared to GF1, and that is precisely it. At least in the first half of GF1, I wanted to know what was going to happen next. By GF3, I didn't care at all. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! Hmm. My docs call it a short. Time to do that test, then. EDIT: Yes, move_to_loc_x_y is very definitely a short. I have it returning a number. That's got to be the first time I've ever seen two oldbies in a row be wrong. quote:Assuming you meant "haec" and not "heac," this looks to me like "I cannot speak words, because I do not know them." But it's probably better prose style to omit the unnecessary pronouns. A number of us read Latin. EDIT: And your location doesn't much matter. The proverb is Latin, not English, which means that everyone in Western Europe (or the descendant cultures) uses it to some degree. It appears (based on the old bugs page) that move_to_loc_x_y didn't used to work but was fixed for a more recent version. It seems likely that it was changed from a short to a void in that time in order to make it functional. The easy way to test it, obviously, is to make a creature script with print_num(move_to_loc_x_y(my_number(),some_x,some_y)) in the START_STATE. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. It seems unlikely ever to happen. Again, graphics have never been a priority for SW; gameplay goes above all else. But honestly, who among us would actually know? Maybe he'll be possessed by the graphics demon right after he makes A4 and decide to spend huge amounts of money turning GF4 into Myst-quality graphics. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. It's pretty well-known from at least medieval Latin, if not earlier. EDIT: My point being that your native language doesn't much matter; it's an old Latin proverb. Try not to post unless you add something new. Alorael said all that needs to be said to answer the initial question. Unless Micael has a new question about the Scimitar, let the topic die. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. You also should probably download a new version of the scenario editor.
